B-ball fanParticipantIf Noel gets minutes when healthy, it should be him. Otherwise, Dieng and Len could contend for it. If Gortat is traded, it will probably go to Len simply because he will play the most minutes.

AZcats09ParticipantOf all the rookies drafted this year, which one will have the highest blocks per game average?
I think it will be Alex Len simply because of his size and relative NBA readiness compared to some of the other big men who were drafted.
I would have picked Noel, but coming off an ACL injury and being to weak to bang in the NBA right away, I think it’s going to take him a few years to become a top notch starter/shot blocker.
Also, he won’t play a lot, but I wouldn’t at all be surprised if Jeff Withey leads the rookie class in blocks per 48 min. He’s ready to contribute right away from a defensive standpoint and I think 8-10 minutes a night is all he needs to get a block per game.

RafterParticipantMan, Rudy Gobert is going to get dunked on a lot but who doesn’t? I agree on Len, he may average the most blocks but I’ll keep an eye on Withey and don’t sleep on Steven Adams he could sneak in there.

Sewok15ParticipantIf Withey plays the 8-10 minutes a game there is no way he could average a block per game. That would put him between 4.8 and 6 blocks per 48 minutes. To put that in perspective only 2 guys in the league put up over 4.7 Blocks per 48. They were Javel McGee with 5.26 and Larry Sanders with 4.98. Serge Ibaka only averaged 4.67 Blocks per 48 and I am not ready to put Withey on that level of shot blocking.
The Brow only averaged 2.91 blocks per 48 minutes as a rookie so anything over that would be very good for Withey as a rookie. You are the second person that has thought Withey is going to come in and be the second coming of Hakeem Olajuwon.
As for your question I would say either Len or maybe even Dieng will lead in total blocks because they should get a good amount of PT. Blocks per 48 I might still have to role with Noel even though he is coming off the ACL. I doubt he will play a ton as a rookie but if he gets all his explosion back he will be the best shot blocker in this class.

joecheck88ParticipantI don’t think it necessarily has to be a true big man. If Otto Porter gets over 30 minutes per game, I don’t think it’s crazy to see him around 1.5 bpg which could be enough to lead the rookie class. Len was a good shot blocker but something tells me he is going to foul a bit in his rookie season. Idk why just seems like he’s going to be raw his first year on both ends. Noel is out until December and lets not act like Philly is going to be rushing him back.

Sewok15ParticipantOnce again you guys are overestimating these blocks numbers. LeBron James only average .88 blocks per game so it IS crazy to think Porter will block 1.5 shots per game. Only 14 players in the league averaged 1.5 blocks per game. The Brow only blocked 1.75 shots per game as a rookie playing almost 30 minutes a night. There is no chance that Otto Porter will average more blocks as a rookie than DeAndre Jordan did this past season.

joecheck88ParticipantMaybe 1.5 was high but the point is that a long defensive guy like porter could lead this class in blocks this year. Kevin Durant averaged 1.3 and Nic Batum averaged 1.15. Don’t see why Porter couldn’t near those numbers. He is tall, long and smart.

XYRYXParticipantI see the Thunder beeing bashed a lot for taking Adams who everyone sees a a major prospect. I have to disagree a bit here. Which other rookie would have a real chance to play significant minutes for this team. The only one I see here is Zeller but it either seems like the Thunder didn’t want him or they just couldn’t trade for him. Olynyk might have been a better choice here offensively but has is defensive weaknesses. Realistically there is no rookie in this class who would play more than 20 mins a game for a contending team like the Thunder. Even if I see why Adams just isn’t ready to handle 20 mins right from the start, I could see him playing 10 to 13 mins in his rookie season if he adapts solid and this isn’t so much worse what Zeller or Olynyk would have offered. I like this pick very much for the Thunder. There may have have been better options but we don’t know if Zeller/Len were available and Adams was the best big man available at 12.
We’ll see what Adams can bring this and next year but 10-12 mins seem to be realistic in 13/14 and 18-20 mins the year after. Roberson was a head scratcher for sure and didn’t fill a need with his limited scoring potential but he was the nations 2nd best rebounder and is a stud on the defensive end and players like that are always welcome to any team.
I’m happy with Adams and have no doubt he will develop nicely and to be honest there haven’t been many players who could have filled better needs and have the upside to turn out worth this pick. Not a homerun this pick but which player would have been that at 12?

ConezdParticipantWithey will play enough minutes to average over 1.5 blks. Leonard and Withey will split C minutes and I’ll probably get bashed for this but i’d bet that Withey and Leonard play next to each other quite a bit next year depending on what happenes to L. Aldridge. They dont really have any other bigs that will play much, if at all. Also. they will probably play very small with CJ McCollum there. Rotating Lillard, McCollum, Mathews, and Batum with Leonard and Withey down low and including anything they might get back for Aldridge. Point being, they could play those guys a lot together to make up for their lack of size else where.

Ahkasi ClayParticipantDepending if the Jazz decide to wait to spend their $ until next year. Gobert could actually get a lot of minutes. (What other bigs does the Jazz have to back up Favors and Kanter) I think The Jazz are ok running their young for experience for the year. (Plus could put them in the wiggins sweepstake) add that to ridiculase cap space. And the Jazz are relevant again next year.
Oh anyways you give gobert 10 – 15 minutes a game. Then he could very well lead all rookies in blocks.
