Andrew1984ParticipantMarc Stein is reporting that the Celtics, Pacers, and Suns are discussing a deal that would send Dragic to Indiana and Rondo to Phoenix. Indiana seems determined to get an upgrade over George Hill (regret that Kawhi deal yet?) and supposedly Phoenix is worried about its ability to sign both Dragic and Eric Bledsoe long-term.
Not sure how obtaining Rondo would solve this quandary, because he’d be even tougher to lock up long-term than Dragic.
Also, word from Pau Gasol’s camp is that if the Lakers are able to land ‘Melo, Pau will stay in L.A. I’m picturing Marshall-Kobe-‘Melo-Randle-Gasol and thinking that this group would make things very interesting in the west.

IndianaBasketballParticipantThe Pacers would obviously much rather have Kawhi Leonard instead of George Hill right now, but that trade was made before Leonard was picked. The Pacers were simply picking who the Spurs told them to. Even if the Pacers would’ve kept the pick, they probably wouldn’t have drafted Leonard considering they already had Danny Granger and Paul George.
IF the Pacers could somehow land Goran Dragic, it’d make them the favorites to represent the East in the Finals. I’d rather have him over Rajon Rondo.
This seems like nothing more than a silly rumor though. Why would the Suns take Rondo? Who would the Celtics get back? Who are the Pacers giving up?

Andrew1984ParticipantNo clue what Boston would get back. Personally I think this, or some incarnation of it, has legs, but I could be wrong.

WetalkinboutpracticeParticipantEven though that Carmelo signing is a three team race in my opinion (including NY/CHI/HOU), as far as that Lakers lineup, if they move the ball teams would have a tough time containing that five the OP mentioned. Nonetheless they wouldn’t be able to slow down any of the top teams out west. In fact I think they’d get ran floor. Any starting five that features Julius Randle as arguably it’s best defender will likely find itself in the bottom half of the league defensively, and that doesn’t bode well for a franchise trying to make a leap back to the top of the standings.

celtics1982ParticipantI understand that the Pacer need to upgrade their pg, its such a huge hole. That being said, they have no assets. Stephenson could just sign with the Suns, so no need for a sign and trade. The Pacers have just rid themselves of all young players for years and its starting to catch up with them. The only thing they have to offer is first round picks that will likely be late picks. Now Phoenix has a ton to offer the Celtics, but why would they trade Dragic who makes like 7 million to bring in Rondo making 12 million? It doesn’t make any sense, this whole trade idea seems crazy. Unless the Pacers are thinking of trading someone like Hibbert

treytalkssports.comParticipantWhat makes most sense to me is Rondo to the Pacers, Stephenson to the Suns, and Dragic (or Bledsoe, but probably not) to the Celtics. Throw in a first rounder or young prospect (Len?) to the Celtics, and the deal is getting close.

celtics1982ParticipantWhy would Suns trade Dragic or Bledsoe and Len to get Stephenson, when they could just sign Stephenson. They then could trade Dragic most likely and get another piece. A sign and trade would only make sense to a team over the cap, the Suns have more then enough room to resign Bledsoe and still get Stephenson.

SpacegrassParticipantYour hypothetical for the Lakers starting lineup is interesting and has high end potential for a 2 year window for Kobe to compete at a high level before he retires. Assuming he has anything left? Marshall might lead the league in assists and he and Pau are the kinda guys that fit well around Melo. Ride Kobe out best you can and retool some in 3 years around Melo and Randle. Randle might even be better off as a 6th man if that were the other starters for the Lakers.

PHXSUNDREAMPICK13ParticipantMaybe Hibbert to Celtics, Rondo to Suns and Dragic to Pacers. If your the Suns, Dragic is your Ginobilli and Bledsoe is your Parker. Wouldnt trade either of them unless something BIG hinges on it.

festar35ParticipantIf they make this trade they will have to re-sign Bledsoe and that will be expensive and they view him as starting point guard now and in the future. Stephenson sign and trade will basically be like keeping Dragic financially, but in terms of building for the future Lance is only 23yrs old.
dragic to me is ready to compete now, at 27 he is starting to hit his prime. If and when Phoenix are ready to truly contend it’ll be another 3-4years to get it done properly and Dragic will be 30+. Not to say he still won’t be very good, but his best chance to be a meaningful piece on a contender would be now and Phoenix isn’t there just yet.
