What did you guys think of the Richard Sherman post-game interview after the 49ers-Seahawks game last night?  I have never seen anything like that from a post-game interview in any sport.  Richard Sherman is obviously an emotional guy and I love how he plays since I’m an emotional competitor myself.  I think most NFL teams would love to have a guy like that on their team.  Obviously things were being said between Crabtree and Sherman that were probably X-rated.  Sheman got emotional and he had an opportunity to tell the world on the interview and he did that.  I don’t think Sherman is a thug or a bad guy, I think the emotions just got the best of him and I’m thinking that he maybe felt like he could’ve handled that situation differently.  Never seen someone go off like that after an NCAA or NBA game.  Emotions are high and sometimes they can get the best of you, but I don’t think people should really make a big deal out of it.

Just want to say what annoyed me the most about it was the fact in the interview he kept saying I and me and not once did he use the word we. Just another selfish player, he’s a great player just selfish.

Platypus, in one of the interviews Sherman said something along the lines of, "We have the best defense in the league." He also said, "LOB!" after the Erin Andrews interview which is a nod to the Seahawks secondary. He is definitely a team player.

He deserves it. He was second in his high school class for GPA. He was the 65th best WR coming out of high school. He became a CB because the team needed him to be. He has a commucations degree from stanford. He was a fifth round draft choice. And now he is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. He put in the work and he has earned the right to say what he wants.

Completely agree Platypus, and disagree w/ you Dale. I have no problem with emotions, but he talked entirely about his own opinion of himself and rivalry with Crabtree. No mention of anything team oriented. I would hardly call “LOB” a reference to giving credit to his team, he just said it to look tough. I’ve hated him ever since I saw him on First Take where he declared himself ‘superior’ to Skip Bayless in every way, while Skip just brushed it off. The guy is a flared-nostriled, clumpy dreaded clown and I sincerely hope and do in fact think Peyton will carve his ass up like a Thanksgiving buzzard.

Skip Bayless is a turd. Most people are superior to him. I also wouldn’t go crazy on the predictions just yet. Manning is unbelievable but the Seahawks D is the most challenging he’ll see, AND Manning has a history of choking during big games.

Manning will win, he knows this is his last legitimate run. He will seize it, guaranteed. Skip isn’t a turd. Controversial? Yes. But he always states his opinions (even though many people may strongly disagree with them, and he is at times an ‘animated character’ so to speak) with relative class and a respectful demeanor. That’s far, far more than what could be said about Richard Sherman, who clearly believes he’s destined to write the next chapter of the Bible. The Broncos will knock his fantastical self-image back down to at least the outer tip of the ozone, and will show him that there are guys out there who are ‘superior’ to him.

While emotions are running strong at that point, he has to check himself a little bit.  Apparently Sherman is an intelligent guy, and yes, he went to Stanford (but that alone does not make you intelligent).  But I thought he embarassed himself last night, which is too bad because he is a really good player.

He is no doubt an amazing corner, I just prefer some humlity. I think you should always win like you have been there before. There have been plenty of overly cocky players and it turned out to hurt thier career, such as T.O. or Chad Johnson.

I forgot to mention the choking sign he gave was inappropriate.  There is no room in sports for that sign.  I’m going to give Sherman a pass on the rant, but the choking sign has no business in the NFL or any other sport.

I think if this bothers people the country is too sensitive. I’ve only heard nice things about him. Don’t know why he can’t be heated on the field. He made a big play in a big game and they won.  He didn’t use bad language or offense gestures. He said Crabtree had been talking and that they made a mistake throwing his way. No big deal. The choke sign wasn’t a big deal either. Looked like Kap choked. What’s wrong with letting him know about it. Sherman isn’t a dumb guy. He went to Stanford. He was just emotional. While we all like to think we can control out emotions at all times we don’t. This got away from him but I don’t think it was a big deal. I chuckled watching it. I enjoy that part or sports. Hard fouls and trash talk are good in context and think his were fine.

I personally thought it was one of the most bizzare things I’ve ever seen, lol. Erin Andrews asked a stupid question (IMO, in-game and post-game reaction interviews are 99% trash and a waste of time), and got a stupid response. Sherman was amped up. When he was interviewed later, he was just fine.

I actually liked the fact he didn’t give the usual crap answer of it’s a team game and a good win blah blah blah. Sherman made the play that kept the 49ers from going to the superbowl. If he doesn’t tip that ball then Crabtree catches it and the 49ers win and the Seahawks lose. Sherman made the play of the game and was very proud of it like he should have been. Personally attacking Crabtree was kinda uncalled for, but I have no problem for him saying he is the best in the game because he probably is and he backed it up with an absolute amazing play.

The dude is an oxymoron. He represents everything black people should strive for in getting a great education, working hard, overcoming odds and trying to be the best in your profession. He also represents the unfortunate parts of black culture as it stands today. Me first mentality, chest pounding, etc. Really unfortunate to act like that with thousands of children watching and all he can do is stupify himself on a platform like that. LeBron knows he’s the best, doesn’t act like that and didn’t act like that after his finals win.

He didn’t curse or say anything offensive.  He was just really amped up, as occasionally happens during an NFL game.  This controversy-mongering is silly.  To expect him to violently attack his opponent on the field and then act meek as a mouse the moment the game ends, before he has even gotten off the field, is silly.

I couldn’t believe it when I woke up this morning and saw that interview was taken so seriously and negatively. The guy just made a fantastic play that encapsulated the Seahawks entire season (The Secondary is the Seahawks!), and not even ten minutes later you stick a mic and annoying blonde chick in his face, and you think something good is going to come from that? Honestly, I don’t think this would even be a story if it wasn’t for the blatant disgust that the reporter showed, and the premature "send it back to you."

I had no problem with what Sherman did. This was a huge game with their biggest rival, and the Seahawks made a pretty good turn around. The home fans deserved it, and Sherman was getting reading to go hard! Leave the man alone.

And GTF out of here with that choking sign garbage. Sherman does it, and it’s looked down upon. Reggie Miller does it, and it’s legendary, and is shown in almst every compilation and documentry from that era. Come on, give me a brake please, sports are already getting too soft for this stuff to matter.

That’s pretty much how I feel about it. Reggie’s choke sign scene is iconic now, and some of the same people who loved that are complaining about Sherman now. It’s a hilarious double standard.

Speaking of Reggie Miller, if we’re going to trash Sherman, Jim Harbaugh deserves some criticism too. I’m tired of seeing how thrash around like a childish lunatic after every call that doesn’t go his way.

    I loved it.

If you don’t want a guy to get the last word: 1) Don’t talk trash about him all week. 2) Don’t talk trash about him all night. 3) Don’t test him after you’ve been talking all of that trash.

He completely shut down the entire right side of the field last night, except for Kaps runs, of course.  People keep saying that he did nothing last night, yeah, except for shut down the entire right side of the field.  Most of Kaps completions were on the left side of the field and Kap did not even want to throw at Sherman after talking all the sh*t he was talking all week.

As a matter of fact, Kap was 2-7 when he passed to the right side of the field, including the game-losing INT while he was 12-17 on the left side of the field.

Didn’t do anything?  He’s a cornerback, cornerbacks don’t show stats.  A cornerback’s job is to make sure their man isn’t open and that doesn’t show up on the stat sheet.  Stats show deflections and INTs but they don’t show when a player was completely shut out of a play.

If you wanted to watch a typical "sportsmanlike" response, watch ballet, not football.

I’m glad someone posted about this, because I have such a strong opinion about it even though I don’t neccesarily agree with everything Sherman did.

I think football is so full of hypocrisies. Kill each other for 3 hours, talk trash for 3 hours, and then act like you love everyone afterwards. Yet, most people (white america mostly, which I am apart of) have been ripping this guy like he’s the NFL player who get convicted of murder.

Was his interview over the top? Unneeded? Has he reached a point in his career where his incredible talent should speak loud enough on it’s own? Yes, definitely. But dude said another guy was mediocre. He said he was the best. Guys probably say this 100 times every game to each other. But uh oh, he said it on national TV. And he was a "scary black man yelling", which made it even worse.

In a league where the commissioner is a prick, a team with 3 rings got caught cheating, another team got caught putting bounties on injuring players, coaches tried to fight each other post game, and a coach got in the way of a play to stop a TD, we are gonna play the "class" card? There is no doubt there are some class acts in the NFL. But acting like a guy trashing talking a guy (which, clearly, Sherman HATES Crabtree. He doesn’t disrespect other players like this, he is adiment that Crabtree is a punk) is the most classless act we have ever seen is just crazy.

Take Belichick whining about Welker’s hit on Talib yesterday. Way to take the high road Bill.

Or Crabtree, who didn’t take the high road at all in this Sherman business but instead whined about how he was open the whole game.

The league is full of guys who hate each other, who hate losing, and who love winning. And the best part is, we allow receivers to celebrate every 12 yard reception, like they are going to the Super Bowl, but when a guy is GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL, he needs to stay humble and respectful. How bout Kaep’s Cam impression last week? Classy? C’mon!

It’s sports. What goes on for those 3 hours on that field is war. This isn’t basketball. This is grown men trying to destroy each other physically. We have had players blatantly say they are/were trying to injure others, and I’m sure, without any shadow of a doubt, the Niners will cheapshot Sherman next year when they play, but you can’t say anything controversial.

Again, if you watch football, and you hate Sherman, you’ve probably hated him long before that. He is the type of personality some will love and many will hate. And that is fine. If you think he’s a jerk or an A-hole? Completely reasonable.

But…He is NOT a thug. Aaron Hernandez is a thug. Pacman Jones is a thug. It also isn’t clearance to call him the N word, to shout about him like it’s the end of the world, and honestly, it isn’t healthy, because this dude isn’t going away. You will see plenty of him the next two weeks, and plenty of him for years to come. I irrationally hate Aaron Rodgers, because I’m a Bears fan, and because he seems very thin-skinned and douchy. Fair? Maybe not. But I don’t go on and on about how he’s a punk or anything for no damn reason. This story is about TRASH TALK in the NFL.

And the best part? What was said in the interview is that he (Sherman) is the best corner in the league, and that Michael Crabtree is mediocre. Plenty of analysts, players, and fans would agree with both of those things, because they are true.

WHEN will you jokers understand? I can’t believe I’m getting negative points on this (not that I care, as I only joined to post on this thread). Can you get it through your 2-foot thick skulls that it is NOT, NOT, NOT his intensity, emotions, brashness or even his approach to his post-game interview that people (or at least people like myself) are complaining over? It’s the fact that the guy clearly doesn’t own a team-first mentality.

I love that intensity and cut-throat mentality. It’s something that I believe all athletes and even coaches (to a degree) should be trained to achieve and maintain, and applauded for having. I don’t hate guys like KG (one of my favourites of all time), Jim Harbaugh, Reggie Miller, or hell, even Metta WP.

What was the first thing he couldn’t wait to say when the last syllable slipped out of Erin Andrew’s mouth and she put the microphone to his face? “I’M the best corner in the NFL”. That says it all. Not “We are the best team”, or “We are the best secondary”. The first thing he couldn’t wait a tenth of a second to let the world know was that HE was the best.
And at the end of the interview, barely has time to shout out “LOB”, which resembled more of a ‘verbal gang sign’ than it did a remark praising his team.

Face it, he’s an incredibly selfish human-being, and that’s why he should be hated, not because of his fantastic intensity.

The immediate post-game interview clearly displays this. After watching his later interviews, he had time to defuse, relax and spew out his insincere “we are a great team” BS which he clearly does not put nearly as much weight into as his own personal endeavours.

The immediate post-game interview revealed his true colors. With his emotions running high, he was only capable of saying what he really meant, and didn’t at the time, have the composure to blab out his hollow “we”, team-first type statements.

And I will again bring back the Skip Bayless argument. Many athletes have shot back at Skip. Some have even had heated debates with him such as Terrell Suggs. But the difference is none of them, other than Sherman of course, have retaliated in such a shamefully selfish and ego-centric way.

If you listen to his rant, it’s absolutely laughable. You would think he was delivering his last statements to Skip in a courtroom after Skip murdered his mother. It’s outlandish. He claims himself a “better person in every way possible”, says that Skip will never be as successful in any way as him, and then proceeds to proclaim himself All-Pro this, All-Universe that, etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if he claimed himself Miss Alabama somewhere in that moronic rant. Although Skip is disliked by the majority of people, he is an incredibly successful journalist, multi-millionaire TV personality, and earned a scholarship to Vanderbilt for his writing prowess, much more than most could boast about. This just goes to show even further how ignorant and incredibly childish Sherman’s egotistical retort to Skip was.

I (and I believe many others), despise him for his selfishness and outlandishly ego-centric way in which he carries himself. A joke.

I actually didn’t disagree with anything that you said in this post. I never said you are suppose to like/respect Sherman, but more of that in football, this whole idea of needing "class and respect" is just foolish.

Your main point about him putting himself ahead of the team is pretty on point. Until your line about LOB. LOB is clearly the nickname of the secondary, and this is where you stray away from the facts you are trying to convey and cross over into your opinion of the situation.

I’m not going to dispute anything you said about the Skip interview, but I think it should be framed in context better. Skip Bayless is someone who gets paid to make rash comments that make absolutely no sense so he can argue about it and cause drama/controversy. I am not going to defend anything Sherman said in that interview, but I’m also not going to point anything at him negatively, when he was talking to someone who shouldn’t have any credibility in the public eye what so ever. Listening to Skip talk is nauseating, and ESPN has ran with it because of Tim Tebow, and the whole hype machine that created. Was Sherman out of line then? Yes. Was Sherman out of line now? Yes. But the bigger picture is we are talking about a football player. We want a praise teams and make generalizations about "rivalries" and "boy, those guys play a mean brand of football!", but then when it turns out the hate between players is real, and the meanness is real, we freak out and don’t want to accept it.

Sherman’s biggest flaw in all of this was timing. He just won the NFC, and he was on national TV. Calling himself the best is something other athletes have done, and calling someone else mediocre is also something athletes have done (LeSean McCoy called Knowson Moreno a bum this season on twitter). The fact is, in that moment, you are exactly right that he should have thought about his team and what was to become of this, and he didn’t. But I truly believe (foolishly maybe) that Sherman does love and respect his team. You can call it backtracking, but from all the interviews I have seen with him and the Seahawks over the past year, they seem like a genuinely tight group. Hell, his twitter avatar is the full LOB, not just a picture of himself. His timing was bad, his actions came across as completely and utterly selfish. But I don’t think that was his intention. I believe he just thinks Michael Crabtree is a turd.
