What an amazing player. I cant say enough about what this guy has done for Toronto. He has Demar Derozan playing defence and rebounding! Demar is a nasty defender. Thats no lie Toronto had a players oonly meeting where he called out Derozan and both players admitted to this since than Toronto has won 3 straight. Tucker challenges guys all the time on this team and gets after whoever doesnt give effort.

He really is like our Draymond Green, Ben Wallace type guy and I dont mean a poor mans version or anything like that. He has a DPOY type impact. Ive seen him shutdown Melo, PG, Jimmy Buckets, Isaiah Thomas, John Wall, Demarcus Cousins and anybody he is asked to in key moments.

The team has been led by PJ Tucker who is the heart and soul of the team already. I had no clue how good he is defensively. Really is top 5 in the league without a doubt. When you hear him talk about it he has defence down to a science and is such an intelligent player and really teaches defence. You think you know a guy until you watch him play for your team and see him possession to possession game to game. Alot of his stops also result in turnovers where his teammates end up picking up the loose ball so you dont see it on the stat sheet but its like a forced fumble vs fumble recovery in football. He has alot of forced fumble type turnovers. He is really on par with Leonard and Green defensively and the beauty of it is he doesnt have a high offensive usage rating so all of his energy goes into crashing the glass and defense. I think people are gonna wisen up to how good of a player he is in the playoffs when its in front of thier faces every game.

He was a really nice pickup for Toronto.  Do you see them being able to re-sign him after the season?  I know Ibaka is a free agent and Lowry is expected to opt out of his current deal.

Well I can say both players are very happy here. Tucker gets to be a leader on what should be a contender when Lowrybcomes back. Ibaka has played very good and seems to enjoy his role as well. Although money is a different story and these guys all gotta get paid. Based on that I just dont know and Im not quite familiar with how the cap works. Can we hypothetically resign everyone over the cap and then just sign players to the veterans minimum, rookie contracts and MLE? Powell and Patterson would likely have to go. Tough situation.

It would be a big tax bill with all of them getting paid like you said.  If Masai wants to go all in with that core finding a partner to take on Carroll’s contract might be the way to go.  Although that would probably take a pick and/or young player to convince the team to do that deal.

The Raps are $88 million on the cap for next year. If we assume they want to keep Lowry, Ibaka and Tucker, they may need to be a bit creative with the cap unless they are going to be near the $137 million Portland have on their cap for next season. But the good news is that of the $88 million it does include Lowry’s player option so that takes it back to $76 million.

Lets say we double what Ibaka and Lowry get now. It could be questioned is that value but what Conley, DeRozan and Horford took last summer was more than that and I’ve taken it down a bit on the scenario that the Raps want to keep their team together. That puts cap at about $125 million, so they could offer PJ say $7/8 million for next year with a couple of nice hikes going forward when other money comes off the cap.

Toronto also own all their first round picks going forward and could possibly do a salary dump for a 21-30 pick to say Brooklyn who are crying out for assets.

My T-Wolves will swoop in and sign both Tucker and Patterson with their 30 million in cap space.
