The Pistons are hiring Dwane Casey to a 5 year deal. Seems like the Pistons got lucky as Casey is undoubtedly a good coach and one most teams wouldn’t expect to be available at this point in the year. The Pistons have some talent on the roster unfortunately two of there best three players are injury prone. It will be interesting to see what Casey can do with them.

Great hiring!! Casey should be able to bring the Pistons back to the playoffs as long as if the core stays healthy and that’s a big if!! Detroit should make it anywhere from the 6-8th seed in the playoffs and hope either kennard or Johnson can blossom to a star.

I’ve wanted to get excited about the Pistons for a while because they’ve got players I really like watching and think could be better than they’ve been. There might not have been a better candidate out there, and I’d bet playoffs next year for sure

Anyone know why we don’t see more coaches being traded in the NBA ala doc rivers? Raptors must have known there would be a market for Casey and probably could have gotten at least a 2nd round pick for him, not to mention saving any money they would have paid him out. Would have made for the Pistons too, as they would not have to commit to 5 years.

Doc wanted to move team’s. Casey was pushed out the door. I guess it is because they would have different contract structure from players.

Makes sense they would offer that 5th year, since they need someone credible to get the fanbase believing playoffs and Casey is the best coach available on the market. Well done.

In addition to coaching, their ability to make the playoffs rests on 2 things: Blake Griffin’s health, and one of their supporting pieces breaking out (Kennard, Stanley Johnson, Ellenson). If they can do that, I can see a path the 8th seed.

But it will be tough. The bottom of the east is on the upswing. Milwaukee, Indiana & Miami are young squads that should get better next season. So again Detroit needs really good health & a leap from one of their recent lotto picks to get into the postseason

Could a coach be traded like any player can be except those with a no trade clause?

Good fit for both sides, the Pistons get a proven coach and Dwane gets a decent job and has a useful roster to work with.

Drummond had another good year and could really push on next year especially with Blake Griffin alonside him but I still think a lot will depend on whether Griffin can stay sound and play 70 plus games and be fit for any play off run.
