Philly 76ers have hired Jerry Colangelo as chairman of basketball operations and a special advisor. Although Jerry is now 76 years old, his front office experience is second to none having worked for the Suns for over 40 years and been part owner for nearly 20 years.

A 4 time NBA Executive of the Year and a hugely respected Managing Director of Team USA for over a decade. Jerry will certainly be a wise sounding board for the likes of Sam Hinkie and Brett Brown. Also he has dealt with so many high profile players over the years often with a no-nonsense attitude, he could be the perfect guy to take Okafor under his wing.

Not only does Jerry bring all his experience, he probably has the best list of contacts of anyone in the NBA and with a young roster he can set up informal mentoring or even just a phonecall for players on the 76ers roster from someone he feels may be able to advise them. Jerry can do this without stepping on Sam Hinkie or Brett Brown’s toes and gives them a superb extra opinion to seek on all matters basketball.

Ideally Jerry doesn’t have to get too hands on but can offer advice, wisdom etc where needed and can use a light touch to help steer the 76ers in the right direction.

Also with several draft picks potentially due next year, the 76ers have got an excellent extra evaluator of talent to draw on if needed.
