Pels get David Griffin to be the new VP of Basketball operations. I thought he could have went to the Lakers but the T Wolves snagged him first. Now do you think he throws LBJ a bone and atleast considers trading AD to the Lakers ??

David’s job is with the Pelicans not the Lakers so he’s going to want a good return for AD and will field a number of offers but he’s not going to give him away but he may be willing to do business.

It will be interesting to see if any deal is done before draft time as the Lakers have a lottery pick which would likely be part of any package. But I’d figure nothing would happen until we know who has won the Zion stakes in the draft lottery.

That’s a better hire than I imagined the Pelicans would get. Best of luck to Griff

Personally really surprised the Suns didn’t snag him up as Bowerman(their new one) was hopless in both stops: Pelicans and Pistons…

As for what will griffin get that is a hard call depends on what ownership have told him to get: The most possible(picks, young players and salary dumping) or the best available player return(aka Demar for Kawhi sort of trade)..

I sort of pitty Griffin though he is going to have to clean up demps garbage deals..If he can get rid of Soloman hill and Etwuan moore with A.D that would only leave Jrue holiday left to move which could be done in a sort of lesser salary move but a team that wants to upgrade whatever position they see jrue playing.

If NY gets the first pick, I would ask for that pick and local Mitchell Robinson immediately (and all the other potential valuable assets, Ntilikina and picks…)

I don’t see NY trading Zion even for AD. But it could be interesting if say the Knicks or Lakers maybe ended up with 3rd pick and dangled RJ in a package for AD then the Pels mighr move quicker. If the Pels won the lottery and got Zion, would they want to pair him with AD or think we can rebuild about Zion and get best deal possible for AD?

I think that if AD moves then it will be to Lakers or Boston but Ainge isn’t going to give up a kings ransom. Also until we know who is drafting where and even until FA has opened we may not see any move for AD. If any team with cap space lands a top FA and feels they could be a legit contender by adding AD then we may see moves being made.

Knicks may do it if they have K.D in the back pocket just like Lakers did with Lebron..As Zion wouldn’t really suit their time line.

If they had to give up Zion and they get A.D to pair with K.D and one other player I see them doing it in a heartbeat..

With the Draft happening before F.A people can trade picks(or choose the player they want then trade them) just like the T-wolves did in the Butler trade with Bulls who got them to choose Lauri M to pair with Zach,Kris Dunn.

Is it smarter to wait until you have a rough idea of what your roster will look like yes,but with trying to get a big name in the room to try recruit the F.A’s they have to sometimes through their lone assets on the table..

I think people are hopefully getting wary of Ainge so may force his hand a bit more now. Teams with a competent GM will always get fair return so if Ainge wants A.D he will probably have to give a big return and take an average deal back..So something like Taytum,Terry Rozier,Multiple picks and at least one more reasonable level talent would at least get the convo started.
