evdebbsParticipantim sure otto porter’s skill and potential has been brought up before i just honestly dont feel like searching for it. im looking at the mock now and porter has gone up some spots from the previous mocks. i havent seen him play much at all, just glimpses here and there. id really like to know what his game is like and if he has the ability to be a franchise changing player or just a great player or if in fact he is being over hyped.

juice304Participantsorta reminds me of Nic Batum from Portland

SiggyParticipantHe reminds me of AK47 more than Batum. He just has the ability to impact all facets of the game without being ball-dominant. He looks like the ultimate glue guy, which some people might not like to hear for a possible top 5 pick, but I think it’s a great complement. Porter’s just the type of player who helps teams win games. I don’t think he’ll ever be great at taking guys off the dribble and iso’ing or anything like that, but he’ll always be in the right spot at the right time and he’ll more often than not make the right decision on offense. Defensively, he might not be as laterally quick as young AK47, but he’s active, smart and long-armed with a nose for the ball and great ability to anticipate.

Lebron’s HairlineParticipantHe’s going to be a very good jack of all trades guy that every team needs

For_Never_EverParticipantI need to watch more games of him, but right now I think he is absolutely one of safest picks. He is very crafty at scoring in the mid-range and in the paint by always moving being active. He isn’t one of those guys that stands around waiting for the ball to be handed to him, a lot of his paints comes from moving without the ball. Defensively he reminds of Tayshaun Prince a intelligent long armed savvy perimeter defender.

For_Never_EverParticipantOne other thing, I thought his shooting form looked weird. It looked like he shoots the ball pretty low and has his elbow further out to the side then it should be. Anyone know how good of a shooter he is ?

SiggyParticipantHe does shoot with his elbow out, but I don’t think it’s a big concern. His stroke is short and compact, the follow through is straight and he doesn’t have a bunch of moving parts in his shot. I don’t see anything wrong with his release point either. Obviously, he won’t be able to shoot 75% from 3 for the rest of the season, but he’s shown improvement in his range in less than a year and he was already a knockdown shooter from mid-range last yr (shot 45% from mid-range). I think what helps his shooting %’s even more is that he has excellent shot selection.

OfficialThis might sound like absolute BS and no1 would ever believe me but i thought of the Batum comparison before.
God kill me right now if im lying!!!0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/30/2012 - 12:56pm #731036
delfamParticipantHe’s a tweener and I don’t think he’ll every be a starting caliber type player unless he’s on a bad team. I just don’t feel he has a position in the league and will be more of a mismatch type player coming off the bench. Nothing wrong with that, I just don’t think his skillset is that off a SF or PF. He doesn’t do anything real great where he can specialize but doesn’t do anything real bad either.
He’ll be a good player, just not great.

For_Never_EverParticipantDo you think he is less talented physically and skill wise then Kawhi Leonard ?

r377ParticipantI really like Porter. I think he might be a little bit better offensively than Kawhi Leonard. Batum, ak47 and Prince are all good comparisons. I can also see a bit of Paul George and Scottie Pippen coming out of college in him. (Pippen was a bit raw coming out of college and took a while to develop) Not saying he will be Pippen the all-star, but more Pippen in his first couple years in the league…

For_Never_EverParticipantHis hops is just average though, not good as some the guys we have mentioned.

r377ParticipantHe would fit in perfect with the Pistons and be groomed by Tayshaun Prince.

JNixonParticipantGeorgetown plays a BORING STYLE of offense, side note. It just seems out of date

delfamParticipantI would compare him to Jeff Green in that I think he’s going to be a very good sixth man but doesn’t really have a position and therefore isn’t starter material.

OfficialI think he can play SF in the league.
im with you though on the “he’ll be good not great”.0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/30/2012 - 3:02pm #731059
For_Never_EverParticipantI’m watching Blazers vs the Celtics now. The game was too boring for me.

JNixonParticipantPorter really needs a better perimeter game. Like, badly

kobyzParticipantPorter as a player remind me exactly Kawhi Leonard, only with less strength, you could see very similar style, skillset and attitude.
