2002-Drew Gooden Kansas
2003-Darko Milicic Serbia

OrangeJuiceJonesParticipantI agree with every player except for Drew Gooden. He’s bounced around quite a bit, but he’s been a very solid contributor for every team he’s played for.

SteroidParticipantThe whole 2000 draft, with the exception of maybe 3-4 players, can be included as being unworthy…

McDunkinThere are too many to name. You could make a top 10 out of the 2000 draft alone.
And its way too early to include the 2010 draft and probably too soon for the 09

Mr. 19134ParticipantDrew Grooden should be not on this list.
And not every first round pick pans out we know that but the first round picks you names are still in the league do you know how many first round picks aren’t even in the league still?
Or narrow it down to players who shouldn’t of been taken top ten ever i.e. Shelden Williams and I think we all knew that was too high for him….

llperezstevenson has been pretty close to what you would expect out of a late first rounder in the 25-30 range. Hate on milicic all you want, but hes absolutley a first rounder. No idea why gooden is on this list. Way too early to judge carrol or orton.

sheltwon3ParticipantDang i am starting to agree with LLperez more often maybe because I am in his fantasy league or something lol. I agree whole heartedly about what he said though. You should have stated top 15 and included the people. Some of those guys did well for where they were drafted and also it is too early for the 2009 and 2010 drafts. I think Orton will prove to be a least worthy of a 1st rounder in a few years. Big men are hard to find. Joe Alexander was a bust and I saw it coming but I figured with all that hype he would at least be a solid role player. How can someone come from nowhere and get all that hype like him to be straight awful I mean does he has any redeeming qualities.

Mr. 19134ParticipantJoe Alexander is first and foremost a freak athlete..And he had a pretty nice scoring game unorthodox sorta like Amma but not as good a shooter. Plus Joe could play either forward position and had the athleticism to guard 2’s….But he just have no clue as to what to do on a court.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantGooden has been a solid rebounder ,he can score without having plays run for him,a quick leaper..Gooden problems come on the defensive end..He’s not very strong,he gets pushed out of the lane becuz he lacks strength..He’s not a good shot blocker..And he loses focus much too often on both offense & defense..Thats why he’s move around so much..His mental lapes drive coaches crazy..But if you look at his career stats..There are some very good numbers for a journeyman 12 points/7 boards..
I think alot of the guys you named were overrated..And some have mental issues I think DeMarre Carroll will be out of the nba in 5 years..Playing in that Mizzou Hectic Defense fooled alot of people into thinking he was a great defender…

llperezif this thread had been titled "guys who didnt live up to expectations" he might have gotten positive points. BUt to claim all these guys shouldnt have been first round picks is off. If you are still in the nba and are battling for minutes, hard to say you shouldnt even have been a first rounder when many first rounders aare out of the league within 4-5 years.

JoeWolf1RUDEBOY, good analysis of Carroll, he has a weird junk offensive game that he could get away with in college and not so much in the pros. I think his best case is Renaldo Balkman, but I don’t have high hopes for his career.
Memphis Tyga23
Name 30 better players from their resptive drafts than Gooden, Stephenson, Darko, Telfair, and even Stephen Hunter, and Carroll. I’d say Sean May, and Joe Alexander would be 28-30 range maybe early 2nd, but I agree with you with Julian Wright and Adam Morrison being 2nd rounders if the draft were re-done. I’m not big on Orton either, but let the guy play a game at least!

cavairo7ParticipantWhat about Dajuan Wagner? He was a top 10 pick. He should have been picked over Gooden on this list.

Cardinal_FanParticipantI dont think anybody thought Demarre Carrol or Sean may wus gonna tear it up, Ive never thought much of Sean May as an NBA prospect an Carrol i think wus juss more so looked at as a Renaldo Balkman type he pretty much just a high energy an active guy in college.

Lotto StudParticipantWagner does not go on the list, because his career was short ended by a injury.

marcusfizer21ParticipantStevenson is rated just fine… He had an OK career which is good for a 23rd pick in a draft class that’s filled with…well… busts… including Fizer and Swift… He could have been much better than what he is now after being touted as a "Michael Jordan" caliber player when he was playing in high school… Too bad he made bad decisions though…
