The more i look at A.Moultrie style of play, he reminds me of LaMarcus Aldridge. Hes long, nice jumpshot, athletic, nice turn around jumper, nice touch same height (6’11) and good in transition.

With that said Joe D would have to be crazy to pass up on moultrie. he could potentially play center or pf.  Plus with monroe and his high post kind of play, moultrie and monroe would be a perfect match. Also he could contribute right away. In addition, the pistons needs someone  with a little "character" because Knight and Monroe are very good players but they need someone on the team who kinda of a rebel(sorta like what the pistons had in Rasheed Wallace) I hope joe d doesn’t pass up on him for henson.

Take a look at Aldridge, then Moultrie:

I believe I got luke warm results at best…I love the idea of the Pistons adding some more size, Moultrie has enough athletism and offensive potential to warrant a top 10 pick, he’s also got great size too, he and Monroe sound like a great combo at Pf and C, they also have Jerebko to Play Sf/Pf and I expect them to Amnesty Villanueva and try to sign another Pf/C like Anthony Randolph or Marreese Speights…

Moultrie, Monroe, Jerebko,Maxiel and Free Agent X, that’s a nice frontcourt going forward…I also wouldn’t count out them signing Chris Kaman to play Center…

A frontcourt of Monroe and Kaman, along with Moultrie, Maxiel and Mo Speights sounds very interesting…They just have to Amnesty Charlie Villanueva to free up the cap space…

Moultrie reminds me of Jason Thompson.

He is terrible defensively, is inconsistent effort wise and doesn’t block shots. He’s not a guy, Id even consider if I was Detroit. Offensively he can score inside and out but he doesn’t have a killer instinct and will not be a first option on offense like Aldridge. The fact that he was only a lukewarm scorer as a junior on a bad team shows me that Moultrie will never be a stud offensively.

In short, I think Moultrie will make a decent backup big but he’s not starting caliber and shouldnt be a lottery pick. I think Detroit would be much better off with John Henson, Meyers Leonard and Terrence Jones.

in general he is overrated prospect, he will never had the polish and the offensive powers of LaMarcus Aldridge, if i have to make an NBA comparison for him it will be Drew Gooden, someone with no standout skill, no much smart and defense but that can score and rebound a little, at best an average started…

I seen the Aldridge comparison before, but I think Aldridge was a little more explosive at the same stage.

I just not a big Moultrie fan. He’s soft defensively, plays with inconsistent effort and shows poor instincts/fundamentals on both ends of the floor. He has no moves on offense either. His upside is Jason Thopson, but he’s more likely to become a Mo Speights type of player IMO.

    Legendary poster,

I like that analogy…I wouldn’t mind signing chris kaman and having charlie leaving and replacing him with moultrie…that gives moultrie enough time to develop and get a little more bigger and eventually get into the starting lineup in another year or so. Although im not that big on speights tho.

    PPG38,

At worst he could be like jason thompson (still servicable) and at best he could be Aldridge, not O’Neal. Remember they called Aldridge the same thing coming out of college was that he was inconsistent, should block more shots  and soft and look how he turned out.  Only difference was that Aldridge was sort of soft spoken and moultrie’s not. Just saying.

Aldridge blocked 2 shots a game at Texas, and while he wasnt a defensive stalwart, he was still good defensive. In comparison, Moultrie who blocked .8 shots a game and is bad defensively. While Aldridge was certainly criticized for "being soft", Moultrie takes it to a different level, he settles for jumpers and shies away from contact. Additionally, Aldridge, as a sophomore, was far more skilled than Moultrie is now as a junior. I doubt Moultrie will ever be as good as Aldridge is.

Any team that drafts Moultrie in the top 14 will be disappointed.  There are too many better F prospects in this draft to reach for Arnett Moultrie.

Same here, i don’t see lotto material.
Sixers at very best, 2nd rockets pick involved in a blockbuster(finally), but i see him as one of the celtics pick.
I like his size, quickness, and shooting ability but there’s not much more, i’m confident that MC rondo will maximize his potential(bass was a starter in ECF !!!).
He’s in the mold of thompson, speights, hill, hickson and co, decent/solid back ups in winning teams…you wouldn’t be a winning team with them as starters.
Hard time for the pistons, sully for the most inathletic frontcourt in the nba ?, leonard a reach(would greatly benefit a true point guard…they lack), henson the 216 pounder monster(should give half pay day to marshall), perry jones is a trumpet, zeller is a “what u see i what u get”.

He’ll never be Aldridge, not as big and not nearly as talented.

I may get negs but I don’t see why his ceiling is not Chris Bosh.  Almost every rookie but a few need to work on their defense and physicaly strength. I remember Durant his rookie year running into big men and falling down.  Now he has the strenght to finish.  I have not seen this guy play but from everything I have seen he is a very good jump shooter.  His rebounding stats are high and rebounding is a skill that tends to translate from college to NBA.

He is athletic and long.  There is nothing out there about him being lazy so even if I get neg I just want to know why can’t Moultrie fall into that category.  Bosh was a nobody until he started playing and people saw him take on vets and do well.  Bosh was not that hyped coming out of college.  People saw the potential but mostly all you heard about was Lebron and Melo and even Wade is better than anybody really expected.

I think Meyers Leonard is moving up the boards and would be a great pick for the Pistons, he is 7’1, athletic, strong, physical and has a ton of upside. He looked real good at the combine.

I agree because Detroit is not going to be a championship team next year regardless but he gets them an opportunity to be one down the road.
