Just for kicks, I always ask people associated with the NBA if they think LeBron will stay or come to New York. A league official predicted that James won’t leave until he wins a championship. A former player covering the NBA Finals here in Los Angeles believes James is leaving.

Many league executives believe that Cleveland will revisit its trade deadline discussions with Phoenix and consider making a deal for Shaq this summer. Cavs general manger Danny Ferry knows his team needs a bigger, stronger force to guard Howard, especially in the final season before LeBron James’ free agency in 2010.

Speaking of agents: You’ve already heard about Dan Fegan issuing his Ricky Rubio warning. If the Spanish teen doesn’t like his top 5 landing spot, he’s staying home. Paying $6 million for the privilege of landing in Tennessee or Oklahoma isn’t worth it, the story goes. But we’ve heard this proviso from a few GMs in the last week: If Rubio gets a guarantee that he’ll land in New York, he’ll grab it with both hands even if the Knicks (picking 8th) don’t have to move into the top 5 to get him.

Ty Lawson’s resume would impress any NBA team: great speed, the quickness to penetrate, the strength to finish against taller opponents, excellent passer, improving shooter, a cool customer in big games, arguably the best player on North Carolina’s national championship team. The 76ers certainly are impressed. But with the NBA draft looming on June 25, they don’t know if they’ll need to use their first-round pick on a point guard, given the uncertain status of free agent Andre Miller, with whom they cannot negotiate until July 1.

There is some discussion that the Chicago Bulls, for whom Hansbrough has already worked, could pick him at No. 16.

On my scorecard, based on information I have gathered and my own perspective, this is how I see the depth chart looking from the Knicks point of view:
1. Stephen Curry – they’re playing it coy, but the kid is certainly not backing off his desire to be a Knick. It’s too perfect of a match. Still have to see how he does in his workout, of course.
2. Jrue Holiday – obviously they want to see him front-and-center to see if the potential shows as much on the court as it has on paper. His physical statistics are impressive, but the Knicks want to see his decision-making skills and his shooting ability.
3. Brandon Jennings – there is a great deal of curiosity in him and I believe he will get a long look. Flashy passing ability, great athleticism…there is a need to look deeper and I believe the Knicks will with this very intriguing prospect.

Sam Young apparently dominated Damion James when they went up against each other in a recent workout for Golden State.

Yes BJ Mullens reportedly cried after being embarased by former Utah center Luke Nevill at the Minnesota workout.

And there will be interest in Robinson, I believe. In fact, along with Sacramento’s interest, I heard that the Lakers made an inquiry around the deadline as well. Kobe expressed a great deal of appreciation for Robinson, who, if you remember, had an explosive game (33 points) in LA in December. Apparently Laker people came away from that game impressed and believing N8 the Gr8 would be a huge upgrade over Jordan Farmar. They eventually got Shannon Brown from Charlotte and he emerged ahead of Farmar. But perhaps the Lakers come calling again this summer?

The Nets will stay with the best player available option, Rod Thorn said. The need is at forward, but that doesn’t mean they will go that way. There are point guards they like, including Syracuse’s Jonny Flynn. And while help might be found in the 20’s, Thorn thinks the 10-to-20 group will improve as players who enhanced their value at workouts will move up causing some previously viewed as early picks to fall near the Nets’ range.

The most likely trade partner for the Suns is the Washington Wizards who have some good young talent on the roster as well as having the #5 pick in the upcoming draft. The Wizards have several players the Suns would be interested in, including Caron Butler, Nick Young, Andray Blatche, JaValee McGee and of course the pick. Washington could use the athleticism and size of Stoudemire up front to team with Antwan Jamison and a healthy Gilbert Arenas and give the Wizards a formidable threesome to contend in the East.

Ha yeah I listen to that sometimes. Wow I didn’t know the Bucks might want to move down, I wonder why? I could see Marion to the Mavs happening. I think Prince for Chandler is a pretty fair trade. I wouldn’t give up the 12th pick for Kaman but thats just me. I want to see Charlotte continue to build a young team.

And Kaman’s how old again? And when given the ball as the main low post option on offense he succeeds to the tune opf 16 and 12. Suelast year was poor plaguesby injury and the ball dominance in the paint by Randolph. That would be a huge uprgade for the Bobcats if that trade were to go through. They need a low post scorer and would be smart to go with BJ Mullens if there isn’t a stud 2 available. So why not take a less athletic much more developed less risk type in Kaman.
After all, it’s not like they’re trading a lottery pick J-Rich and his three point chucking. …..Oh wait:(

Kaman would help Charlotte out but I think a guy like Jrue Holiday, Earl Clark, James Johnson, etc… would be better.

disagree about Mullens…he is not a all-together player. He did not have a solid season in OSU and he cried during a workout after being dominated by a Big man who prob wont get drafted.

Adam Morrison cried after getting his ass kicked by UCA in the tourney a few years ago. It shows tey care. But i agree Mullens isn’t ready, but onthat team he can develop the way Ajinca is. Plus i don’t think the players that will be available will fit theirneed. ou either take a guy like T-Will,Henderson, or Budinger who jst need a year or so to develop behind Bll as their sg, b/c Larry s ready to win now. This team is just a couple years away, and Diaw is filing in nicely beside of Emeka whil Diop and Nazr can man thefot at the 5 while diaw is out and emeka is at he 4. which would be the perfect role for Mullens. Play behind those 3 cnters for te year then next year be a 10 minutes guy behind Emeka and Diop, the Eventually becoming rotation and possibly starter Point is , is that atthat position in the draft, you eiter take best fit or best potential fit. Doesn’ matter since they’regonna pick Wayne Ellington, PsychoT,or Raymond Felton 2.0…..after all, we all know MJ pencant fodrafting UNC players. An Wayn fits their need PERFECTLY.

Lawson would be the perfect fit if they intend on being the running team thatmade them so successful thepast two seasons. Otherwise youre best bet would be Holiday or Maynor(even though i do think he is a workout warrior)

Yes cryig is a punk Move but perhaps he’s crying because he knows it made him look bad and expects more out of himself than shown over the past year. The potetial is there. Personally i take BJ there Simply B/c athletes at 7’1 are few and far between, as is the true back to the baset player. The upside is incredibleand at the 40th pick they can easily pick up a dionte chrismas, or micah downs type to be a defende and hit jmpers. All why putting Emeka back at the Four beside of a true post player. But i don’t really think BJ will ever get it which is why i sa just trade the pick for the proven post player in Kaman. There isno sure fire plyer at the point in the draft tat can give you what you know yore getting frm Chris Kaveman.
