dannyg219ParticipantWas Charlotte’s pick a good one?
Who has more potential?
What are the chances of either making an Allstar team or Nba first defensive team ?0 - Posted on: Tue, 05/07/2013 - 6:32am #769847
Wavy BagelsParticipantRight now, the favor goes to Butler. He has playoff experience this season and learning how to guard players like Joe Johnson and Lebron in the process. Plus, he has Luol Deng as sort of a mentor if you would call him that. But other than that, too soon to tell, bro.

cryan03ParticipantI don’t really see the reason why you are comparing MKG and Jimmy Butler. Your making it seem like Charlotte chose MKG instead of Butler this year. Butler isn’t a rookie, he is in second year.
But to answer the question, you gotta go with Butler right now. He has played in the playoffs for 2 years now and has made a huge impact this postseason, he has a better jump shot which really helps his case. I don’t really see any All-Star appearances for them but I do see Defensive Teams for both players in the future.

prophetmeirParticipantMKG, the system he in right now doesnt fit him well. Hes only 19 years old and doesnt even have a decent jump shot yet.

phila9012ParticipantToo soon, MKG is 4 years younger, I think he will be able to develop a solid jumper in 4 years and become a rich mans gerald wallace, which should equal an to making an all star team or 2.

druneave3ParticipantDay of the draft a friend who is a big fan of Harrison Barnes asked if I would trade Deng for Barnes. I said I wouldn’t even trade Jimmy Butler for Barnes. I have been in love with Butler since his early days at Marquette so I might be a little biased. Butler has improved his shot immensely over the past season, and really the last 2 months. I didn’t think he would be this good of a shooter this early in his career. He is now consistently knocking down 3’s and mid range shots. He can guard PG though a small PF like LeBron. He never forces the issue and rarely turns the ball over. He is also an excellent passer. If he can improve 2 areas- ball handling and creating his own shot, he could be one of the better wing players in the league. I think a lot of his development is owed to Thibs and Bulls staff, but he is extremely motivated, probably due to his past(similar story to The Blind Side).
MKG is bigger, stronger, and younger but it is really tough to call. Both seem self-motivated and driven. MKG will need to develop an outside game but it should be fun watching these two hard working players throughout their careers. I’ll ride with Butler because he is one of my “MAIN MEN” along with Rose, KD, Paul George, and Derrick Favors.

SpacegrassParticipantBetter thread would be “If you could redraft the 2nd pick?” Barnes or MKG? I think MKG needed a good situation like Barnes is in more to help him play to his current strengths as a player. Opportunity is everything in the league.

Pistol Pete. The PelicanParticipantRight now I’d take Jiimmy Butler and in the future it’ll be a toss up, i’m not as sold on MKG developing a jumper as everyone is.. MKG could still provide that Shawn Marion, Gerald Wallace type of production though, even if he doesn’t get the jumper. But Butler is solid, just like Luol Deng

bigmandinkyParticipantMKG just because he’s the youngest player in the league and has so much room to grow.
I’m more interested in Kawhi Leonard vs Jimmy Butler, tbh.
