ChicagoCaseyParticipantIt’s really frustrating watching this Washington team because this is not your typical Washington team when you have at least a couple of decent players on them. Like last season when they have DeJounte Murray, Marquese Chriss, and Andrew Andrews. This roster is so bad that I don’t really blame Lorenzo Romar for his coaching. The only thing that I can’t excuse him for is his recruiting in his last class with Fultz being the the only top 100 player that came in and he didn’t look at the grad transfer route. The problem with Washington is that they have too many holes in their roster. They don’t have a pretty good secondary ball handler, a wing defender that have wing size, and a 7′ rim runner/protector. David Crisp is nice, but he is just a spot up shooter. Noah Dickerson is pretty nice, but he’s a pretty undersize 4 with pretty slow feet. None of their players would start on a good number of Pac12 teams. I believe the Markelle Fultz situation is much different than the Ben Simmons/LSU situation. At LSU, Ben Simmons came in with another top 20 player and had another NBA player on the roster.
Furthermore, it’s frustrating due to roster being such an eye sore. Fultz or Crisp can drop an impressive pass and the bigs are inable to catch the ball or the bigs can’t finish at the rim. I just got through watching the Washington v. Arizona State game and witnessed two of the worse missed layups/dunks of the season commited by Carlos Johnson and Dominic Greene. This was a disappointing showcase for Fultz and he probably needs to try to be more of a scorer early on than trying to get his team envolve and stop being passive on the offensive end early on. He needs to try to be more of a lethal scorer early on because his team be falling into a big hole when he tries to get his teammates the ball more early in the game and when they are in a major hole they need him to go on a major scoring surge to get back into the game.
I think they can salvage this season, I don’t believe they can get to the NCAA Tournament, by having a consistent secondary, third scorer. This season one game David Crisp go off with Fultz, then the next game he scorer in single digits and can;t shoot the ball. Then another game Thybulle go off with Fultz, then the next he’s silent. They need other other players to be more consistent. They have a rough next 5 games vs. Arizona, USC, UCLA, Colorado, and Utah. To be competitive someone besides Fultz needs to step up to the plate.

TopShottaParticipantI’m sure Romar was expecting his line up to include DeJounte Murray and Marquese Chriss for this season along with Fultz. That expectation certainly effected the way he recruited last year. That is the way teh cookie crumbles i guess…

Jr. ROXASParticipantWeren’t you the one that said at the start of the season that this Washington team would be way better than the one last year just because of Fultz. And you mention he also got good help in guys like Dickerson? And now you’re saying the other players aren’t decent?
What’s with the sudden 360 degree change in opinion? Lol. Cus you were REALLY high and ignorant on this Washington team and basically disregarded every post that would say that this team wouldn’t do well because of Romar. If you can’t take a team of Chriss, Murray and Andrews; T-Ross, Wroten, Gaddy and Wilcox to the dance then that says a lot about the ineptitude of the coach.

ChicagoCaseyParticipantYep, that’s me. LOL. I didn’t believe it was really a ignorant stance saying Washington would be a top 15, like I said in the preseason.I banked on the fact that David Crisp, Noah Dickerson, Dominic Green, and Thybulle would all be great this season and improved from last season. I was wrong and I admit I was wrong. I banked on improvement on young players and I was dead wrong. Im entitled to change my stance after watching them actually play, it’s an eyesore.
I’m saying that they one player play well one night, then the next night they play like trash. Like Thybulle, one game he looks like a future NBA wing prospect with his ability to shoot and his athletic ability, then the next couple of games he’s playing way below his standard. At the same time, Crisp, Green, and Dickerson do the same thing.
Sorry if I was wrong. Didn’t believe you would actually remember what I posted in early October.

Jr. ROXASParticipantHey man, I remember because you post a Fultz/Washington topic EVERYTIME on this site lmao. No problem though, because we fans will from time to time get super high on an NBA prospect. For you it was Fultz. I on the other hand was really high on Jabari Parker since college.

BeastMode716Participantadults discuss a disagreement. Big ups to you Chicago b/c it’s rare to hear someone say "Yea I said that & I was wrong…."
Damn that was refreshing after listening to 18 months of politicians campaigning & most are lying as often as they breathe & are absolute corporate prostitutes on Both sides (not all but many).
Like I said – Refreshing

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantCoach Romar should be done at Udub. It’s not just this year. It’s the combination of the last 5 years consistently having NBA talent on his roster and their obvious lack of effort on the court. His teams have been so much more athletically gifted but it hasn’t translated to the defensive side of the ball. Look at what Mark Few has done with a clear recruiting disadvantage in the same State. Gonzaga hasn’t gotten a clear McDonald’s American in how long if ever but they are consistently the best team in Wa. Even Ernie Kent has my cougs playing with more fire than Romar does. I have no idea why Udub has been so loyal to Romar at this point I believe he has more power at that school than newly appointed AD Jennifer Cohen. Having a young woman as your AD plays a roll in my opinion. Who is holding Coach Romar accountable because she certainly is NOT.
I can see Brandon Roy coaching the huskies in 3-4 years.

TopShottaParticipantI like coach romar, but I could def see B. Roy get the job after Romar leaves/retires…

OhCanada-ParticipantI can give a handful of examples of coaches and teams with no more talent than Washington. Frank Martin with USC has got Thornwell and Dozier and other than that he had guys that have been coached up and respond well to his system. Mark Gottfried in NC State. Noah Dickerson was supposed to have an impact similar to Swanigan. Crisp could be one of the most explosive scorers in the country. There is next level talent on that team and quite frankly excuses are just excuses especially when you have the best player in college basketball playing for you.
Washington is done. Check their schedule it is.backloaded with the west coasts best teams (another weird Romar magic trick). They better hope Micheal Porter can recruit another star or maybe his dad is a heck of an Assistant Coach that fixes the program. Just seems uninspired as if the players have a different agenda then say Sean Millers Wildcats.
