llperezI know its only been a week. BUt i can honestly say this laker team is looking as good as any laker team i have ever seen. Seriously. They were up 30 in the first half against memphis last night and threw it into cruise control. They are leading the league in scoring at 114 a game and shooting 46% from three as a team. The bench looks better then ever. Kobe and pau have both gotten off to MVP type starts. Odom is playing as well as i have seen him. The bench is far better then last year. And all this without andrew bynum.
kobe bryant-24 ppg on 47% shooting in just 31 minutes. So much for the slow start.
pau gasol-western conference player of the week with 24ppg…11reb…5apg in 36 minutes.
lamar odom-16ppg…12rpg…4apg…and shooting a blistering 71% including 6/8 from three.
barnes-10ppg…8reb and great defense
blake-54% from three, he looks like cash everytime he releases it.
brown-11ppg and 64% from three, his jumper is looking silly right now just shooting step back jumpers and pulling up on a dime with no hesitation.
Fisher is fisher and artest is struggling with ihs jmuper a little, but overall they are doing their thing.
I know houston, phoenix, golden state and memphis are not exactly a murderers row of opponents especially on the defensive side. But if things keep up, it might be the lakers that make a run at 72 wins.

IndianaBasketballParticipantOther than dribble penetration and turnovers, they’ve been perfect.
I wonder if Phil will start Bynum or have him come off of the bench because Lamar is playing that good.
The Lakers had a great off-season. It seems like Blake, Barnes, Ratliff and the rooks have always been there. There’s a different closeness to this team than year’s past. And Shannon Brown looks like a monster.

tigers04ParticipantI agree I live with 2 huge lakers fan so over the past 2 yrs I’ve been on of the biggest laker haters(but never questioned their talent) and they look so talented and so proffesional as a team that its scary I expect them to run away with the western conference..and I think after they probably have the best bench in basketball to go along with the best starters in the league and have the best coach..scaryyy team and scary how much talk I’m gonna have to listen to all year haha

delfamParticipantand because there winning by so much Kobe is getting his rest so he’ll be full strength in the playoffs. I could see them bringing back Bynum slower now to make sure he’s 100% then having come off the bench for like 25 minutes just cause Odom is so good. Thist team is scary right now.

BasketBalAllanParticipantThey have a real test tonight… well… mabey not…
But the Kings vs. Lakers game tonight should at the very least be fun to watch, since I do not think I have ever not seen the Kings get their act together to try and compete with the Lakers.

IndianaBasketballParticipantI was watching Kobe really close last night to see how his knee looked. Mayo tried to play physical with him to start the game and Kobe just destroyed him… Defensively and offensively.
His knee isn’t an issue.

inukawaii8Participanthmm i actually think kobe’s knee is not 100% yet. Yes, he got his shooting touch back, but it doesnt mean his knee is 100%. Most of his shots are pull up jumper or one or two step dribble then pop up and shoot. Also, Kobe’s defense has been horrible thus far this season. He has been lazy and often gets blown by by his opponent. Kobe’s knee is probably about 80 – 85%. I think when Kobe knee is completely healed, he would be a little bit more aggressive or more explosive than he is now.

llperezkobe was 6 of 7 at one point in the first half with like 19 points and looked like he might go for 40. He was making mayo look like a rookie getting whatever he wanted. Then in the second half kobe was getting into the paint and was blowing layups. He looked like he was lacking some explosiveness around the rim. BUt thats probably old age more then anything.

stanford hoopsI agree this is the best I’ve ever seen the lakers from top to bottom. The bench is very much improved and will only be better when bynum and even Luke Walton comes back. Can u remember a time when the bench had 40points even with odom on it? Some on here down played the Matt barnes signing and so far he’s making them eat there words and Shannon brown has taken his game to another level. I’m not suprised by the starters because I expect greatness from them but the bench looks amazing. And all this while missing a 7 foot 15ppg 8reb 2blk a game starter. I’m not gonna be 100percent convinced till we play bos/Miami/orl because we have all seen what happened to Orlando after blowing out opponets then playing a contender. Although I don’t see the same let up since the lakers are a much better team with better all around players

TRC1991Participanti just dont see the Heat’s frontcourt being able to hang with the Lakers…Chris Bosh looks like he’s at the caliber of a Kenyon Martin or Andray Blatche…Between Kobe, Barnes, Artest, and Brown, LA looks like they’ll be able to stop Wade and Bron enough to outscore them
by far the best team in the L

llperezas for the grizz last night, i thought gay and conley both looked real good. I called out those guys for their contracts yesterday, but they both played very well. Mayo was sub par. Bench was non existant. Not having zbo hurt, but seeing how the lakers got what they wanted on offense for 48 minutes, i doubt he would have had made much difference.

Tyreke JohnsonParticipantI knew the Lakers would be good this year, but I never expected such a great start especially with all their new off season acquisitions, Blake and Barnes fit in perfectly, Brown has developed a fairly consistent jumper and it seems whether its second unit, first unit or both mixed in together their chemistry is phenomenal and I for one believe that is their secret, team chemistry, thats what made the Bulls dynasty so special, other then being a talented group of guys and of course having Jordan and Pippen, everyone understood their role, nobody did anything they weren’t supposed to do or weren’t capable of doing. That is what I believe has made the Lakers so special thus far, everyone understands what they are supposed to do and are doing it well. Also it doesn’t hurt that Kobe, Pau and Odom are all putting up great stats on a consistent basis.

sacphil_08ParticipantSo with no bias included, its entirely too early to call a 70 win season. Youre assuming everyone will be healthy all year among a million other things. Theres no doubt theyll be 1st in the west and maybe the league record wise when its all said and done but this is very similar to all those miami heat fanatics that are ready to claim them as eastern conference champions because theyve won 4 games in a row by an average of 20 ppg against subpar opponents (except orlando) not saying it cant or wont happen just that its far too early to say it this early. They couldve possibly won 70 last year but they went into obvious cruise control for the last quarter of the season pretty much and ended up with 59 wins. its too early but very possible as much as i hate to admit it. the bench is deep as ever and they have looked good thus far

stanford hoopsI know I’m not gonna say they will win 70 but I like our chances more then any year because of our bench and healthy. Most games we lost was because our bench couldn’t hold a lead or starters weren’t playing well and the bench couldn’t pick up the slack. I know the bench won’t always be hot on offense but the defense should always be there. Plus Kobe and gasol had a summer of rest for the first time in years on top of odom being in playing shape way before he usually is.

Tyreke JohnsonParticipantI never said they would win 70 but the way they are looking thus far and the way they have improved their only flaw from last season (their bench) they could be in the hunt for a 70 win season, nothing is set in stone but I am sure if they remain healthy and play the way they have been playing so far, it wouldn’t be as far fetched to see them winning that many games. Their mentality this season is to win, and so far they have been very successful.

llperezyeah, i already pointed out its too early. ANd suggesting a team might make a run at 72 wins is far different then predicting it actually happen.
