prophetmeirParticipantIf wesley matthews got 5 years 34 million, the way Jr has been playing he should get more per per year

prophetmeirParticipantHow much is he worth? Hope the bulls can snag him somehow

phila9012Participanthe should be able to get around $8 million per year give or take a million so that would be around a 4 year $32 million contract. I dont know if he will live up to it but that is around what some team will give him.

GlenTaylorSucksParticipantWould you WANT to pay J.R. Smith that much? I know he can win you games, but he’s one of those rare players who can either win or lose games pretty much by himself. He is kind of a chucker (under-exaggeration), and I’m not entirely sure how well he’d fit into many teams’ offenses. I think whoever signs him has to be willing to put up with his tendencies. Honestly, I bet he stays a Knick.

machu46ParticipantI think I read that the Knicks can only offer him around 4 or 5 million a year. Multiple teams will offer him more than that. I’d be pretty surprised if the Knicks bring him back.

HobbyOGParticipantSomeone will over pay for him..someone like the Hawks will give him like 8-9 Mill a year. They have the money and no one good wants to come to Atlanta so they have to over pay for decent like players to come here.

XYRYXParticipantVery interesting. 8 per year seems to be pretty much allright to me but since the Knicks decided to let go Lin for a similar amount of money I’m not sure what they will do. I’m sure some teams are willing to spend more than this on him, same goes with Mayo. The Pistons for example have some cap space if I’m not mistaken and this could mean trouble for the Knicks.
The more interesting question is what to do with Amare? They simply can’t afford paying him 20 mil a year without planning with him. On the other hand the Knicks spent way more before for a payrole without beeing nearly as relevant.
Would be cool to see him back with the Knicks but this team is super old and changes will happen in the offseason. My guess is that they might decide to do a sign and trade to bring in a proven SF cause Shump can’t play this position big minutes.
What about Smith, Novak & Draftpick for Deng & Teague

machu46ParticipantIn what world do you think the Bulls would trade Deng and Teague in a sign and trade for JR Smith?

XYRYXParticipantI have to admit that I didn’t like the idea of trading Deng who was and still is a cornerstone of this team but the way Jimmy Butler is playing lately and the HUGE need in Chicago for a servicable shooting guard is something that needs to be adressed. I see Mayos name throwing around a lot but I just think Dallas has other plans with him.
Deng is an All Star and Smith a borderline All Star this year. Chicago is in need to win now with the roster and more important with the payrole. Boozer can’t be moved and a buyout won’t solve any roster spots. It’s just an idea and to me would solve problems for both teams. Jimmy Butler is no shooting guard to me. I don’t think Deng and Butler together works on the wing.
A lineup of Butler, Smith and Rose seems legit to me.

cuseflynn10ParticipantWhy not just play Butler at the SG and keep Deng. Butler may not have the offensive firepower now, but he is a better fit for the Bulls when D-Rose comes back since Butler doesn’t need the ball to contribute to the game.
I like Rose/Butler/Deng/Boozer/Noah (can still draft a good SG if they want to and still keep Teague) rather than Rose/Smith/Butler/Boozer/Noah.
If New York was willing to do a sign and trade where they send JR Smith to Chicago and get Boozer, Teague, and draft picks back, I think that would be more realistic, but I don’t know if New York could afford to take on Boozer’s contract. But JR Smith as a 6th man behind Rose and Butler sounds like the best option for Chicago, albeit an unlikely option.

slash787ParticipantSomeone will over pay JR Smith. He will not be worth the contract he receives. This is probably his career year and a team will regret their decision next year when he’s taking bad shots and not happy with his role.

Memphis MadnessParticipantIf the Bulls could get more for Deng than JR Smith then they should do it. Maybe throw in a pick or some cash or a scrub or something.
The Bulls would win this trade. Rose, Smith, Butler, Boozer, and Noah with Taj Gibson off the bench would be more volatile, but when they are on they would be very tough to stop.
The Knicks would really miss JR Smith.

hotrod_matthewsJr Smith Isnt Going Anywhere. He Will Take a 3 year 14-16mill Contract. He Likes Playing With His Best Friend Carmelo And He Loves Playing In New York. Im Sure He Would Like To Start But At The End Of The Day He Is Playing 30+ Minutes Per Game. If He Does Decide To Leave I See Orlando Picking Him Up and Rebuilding Thinking They Can Get The Same Results That Houston Got Out Of Harden. So Other Teams That I Think Would Be Interested In Him Would Be :
Atlanta- If Josh Smith Returns That Can Be A dangerous Team. Teague, Lou, Jr, Josh, Horford
Orlando- Attempting To Have A Similar Season That Houston Had With Harden
Lakers- In Need Of Another Perimeter Scorer With Kobe Aging And Possibly Missing The Season
Best Case Would Be For Him To Stick With The Knicks. Maybe They Will Trade Amare And Then They Can Offer Jr Smith More Money And Let Him Start At SF While Melo Plays The 4 Spot

IndianaBasketballParticipantJamal Crawford got 4 years $21.35 million and his last two years are unguaranteed.
I think JR Smith should get slightly more, but I’d structure his contract similar to Crawford’s.

HitsterParticipantHotrod makes a very valid point about J.R Smith being a long time friend and team mate of Melo’s. If Melo says he’d like Smith back then this could sway Smith and also perhaps make the Knicks want to keep Melo happy and thus pull out all the stops to retain Smith.
