In yesterday’s exhibition game, Jimmer Fredette of the Shanghai Sharks, dropped 41 points on the Houston Rockets. I’m sorry….. but that has got my attention.

I look at a team like the Orlando Magic, who will in all likelihood be starting DJ Augustine or Jerian Grant this season at point guard. As a fan that does not excite me at all.

If you’re Orlando, why not give Jimmer a workout & see what he’s got? At least that would give the fanbase a little buzz, and he could likely be had for cheap.

41 points against a team as good as houston has me thinking about it.

I think the Suns need a PG even more than the Magic. But unless either team offers him an unpassable contract I doubt he comes back to the NBA. He’s the king in China and has been for a few years now. I’m sure he takes some pride in that, sure being back in the NBA might be a very enticing idea but does he want to take the chance of going from MVP to a bench-warmer again?

Well I know Jimmer is kind of cooking the last couple of years in China but let’s put this single performance against the Rockets into perspective first. He played all 48 minutes and needed 40 shots to score 41 points and had a total of three assists.

I won’t post Hardens game numbers here and don’t want to compare apples to oranges but Jimmer also looked terrible on defense against a preseason team. I‘m the last one denying he has a shot coming back and being a decent backup since his shooting is still a skill and don’t want to take anything away from him but he would not be starter material even in Phoenix or Orlando.

Jimmer’s not even a PG. One of the more shocking things I noticed about him when he was in the league was how weak his handle was and how poor he was vs any type of ball pressure. Even 3rd string NBA PGs have the ability to handle pressure which is one of the reasons why you don’t even see that type of defense in the NBA, but vs Jimmer it worked. He took forever to get them into their offense bc he couldn’t turn the corner and would often have to turn his back.  The only way I could ever see him working out is if the team he played for already had a primary and secondary ball-handler as well as a lights out backline of the defense bc Jimmer should never be on the ball in the NBA and he can’t defend sht. The CBA is more his speed. He should stay there and get paid more.

He washed out of the league for a reason. His defense is atrocious and doesn’t seem to be wired to run an offense. Even for short stretches.

I just want Orlando to have a little more firepower to help open things up for Gordon / Isaac / Bamba. DJ Augustin was actually quite good last year……. shooting 42% from three & 45% from the field overall. But he doesn’t inspire me to watch the games. He’s a quality backup.

Jimmer could very well be worse….. but the idea that he could come in and create offense for himself with a higher usage would help me tune into the games more & provide a more exciting placeholder at the PG position until Orlando addresses the need either by trade in February or this offseason (FA or draft)

No one’s mentioned that they got absolutely blasted by the Rockets. Down 18 after the 1st, and 31 at halftime. The whole game was garbage time.
