Just curious what everyone thinks the Jazz are going to do with their log jam of bigs. With a new and improved Big Al, chisled Millsap, healthy Okur, and the last two #3 overall pics in Kanter and Favors, the Jazz officialy have themselves a BIG problem (yes, pun intended).

Most people I talk to want the Jazz to move Jefferson. but mabe they’re forgetting that after the All Star break last year he put up like 24 and 12 on 55% shooting? He dominated (granted, the Jazz couldn’t win a game, but he did put up effecient/impressive numbers.

Then there are people who want to move Millsap, but after averaging 17 per game and only set to make $7 Mill, he’s a bargain, a professional, and by all accounts a hardworking positive influence on the other guys– which is really important with Favors and Kanter waiting in the wings.

And then there’s Okur, who didn’t get to play last year, but has looked good in Turkey and was an All Star only 3 seasons ago.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, you can’t play all three of these guys a ton while giving Kanter and Favors the time they need, so what do you do? Who do you move? I’m open to suggestions.

This is about the most difficult question there is surrounding this team, and my  answer is they may not even need to move either millsap or jefferson. I mean simple logic says that 4 guys can’t split 48 minutes, but a couple things come to mind when you think about the log jam.

    1. Okur, I think he is on the outs, and will most likely be the amnesty cut. I loved the effort the guy gave on a nightly basis, and the fact that he was able to stretch the defense. However coming off the injury that he had, for a guy who was already limited athletically, and is going to be turning 33 this year. His time as a jazzman is up.

    2. Enes Kanter hasn’t played that much competitevly in about 2 years. The guy played a few solid games in europe this year, and showed glimpses of what he can become. However with that being said, it’s never a good idea to throw a youngster to the wolves and completely kill his confidence. He is by no means a 19 yr old kid who can step in and hold down the center position right away. His offense and defense have both looked somewhat shaky at times, however he does show an extreme willingness to bang in the paint, and should improve on that end. He does rebound out of his general area like a monster though, and once he gets extended minutes should have no problem grabbing 10 boards a night.

    3. Favors is going to be the anchor of the Utah defense for a long time, and should start this upcoming season. This team after the Dwill trade really started looking like they had something going when they played him and jefferson together, as they both made up for the others defecincies. Even if he never develops a post game, you know you got a guy who can hold down the paint defensively, and can run the floor like a deer to get easy buckets in transition.

    4. Jefferson will be the hardest guy to move on this roster with his 14 mill contract, and I’m not sure you should give him up just yet anyways. Him and millsap were about the only options on offense for about a good month after the D-will trade until hayward came into his own. I dont think he is going to be a long term solution to what the jazz are going for right now, but if they have a desire to compete this season he’s still going to be the vocal point of the offense.

    5. Paul Millsap, he is definately the easiest guy on this roster to move, due to his productivity and the mere 7 million he is owed on his contract. Players who put up the kind of numbers he does at his price tag are hard to come by. If you can get several assets such as draft picks, or if you can package him for a scoring wing or PG you make the move. Otherwise I think he could make a legitimate run at the 6th man of the year next season. He would still be able to get substantial minutes off the bench behind favors, and could even fill in at the 3 with kirilenko out of the way. Granted i don’t think he can play the 3 against most starters in the NBA, but should be able to man handle most 2nd units physically.

Why were his numbers mediocre in the first half of the season when the team was actually winning games (Utah was the second best team in the west with a 27-14 record halfway through the year)? Why didn’t an all-star point guard make him better? Because he cannot function in a team system. Jefferson is the kind of player who thrives on bad teams, and hurts good teams.
