When Bonga was drafted 39th overall by my Lakers I was immediately fascinated by him.  A 6’9 point guard with great vision and handles?  And he’s 18?  I assumed he’d be a guy that, if he ever did make it to the league, would probably start contributing in three years or so.  In Summer League he looked really overwhelmed, traveling nearly every time he got the ball and hardly getting any minutes.

But then, in preseason, he looked much better, which seemed odd, given that the competition in preseason NBA games is lightyears ahead of Summer League.  Now he plays in the G-League and has been fantastic.  He’s shooting about 50% on 3s on good volume.  He’s scoring about 16 a game, rebounding well, assisting well, shooting over 80% from the line.  This is a guy that just turned 19 eight days ago!  He’s also someone that wasn’t supposed to be able to shoot.  And now his 3 ball looks great.  His vision is really unique for someone his size and he has the sort of fluidity with the ball that is reminiscent of other tall point forwards like Lamar Odom.

Of course the G-league is a different animal than the NBA, but the rapid improvement he’s made over the last few months is pretty incredible.  He’s younger than a lot of college freshmen.  I’m not sure if he’ll get into any games this year, but I think there might be something special in this kid.  He doesn’t have the athleticism of Giannis but it’s hard not to think about the similarities between two European point forward prospects with very similar size and abilities who both improved at a rapid pace as teens.  Just something to keep in mind.  I’m excited to see how he continues to develop over the next couple years.  Don’t be surprised if he bursts onto the scene sooner rather than later.

that would be great. Anything more than that would be a bonus.

Rondo being out 3-4 weeks wonder if they call him up and give him a couple minutes.

He was a starting point guard in the first league of germany (BBL). He averaged 34% from 3 and 92 % from the line. Only problem: 4,1 turnovers per 40min with only 4,3 assists per 40min. Very versatile defender for his age. To early to talk about his ceiling.

Never too early to talk about ceiling, especially when he was drafted for his upside/ceiling that scouts were projecting.  I think he could be like an Andre Iguodala type athletic point wing.
