But here’s something I’ve pondered today. The salaries match and the players involved have all been speculated to be available.

    Three-team deal No. 1:

    Orlando receives: David Lee

Golden State receives: Tobias Harris, Tristan Thompson, CJ Miles (to make money work), Cleveland’s 2015 first round draft pick

    Cleveland receives: Arron Afflalo

Orlando can then go Exum-Dipo-Harkless-Lee-Vucevic. This team is capable of earning a playoff spot in the east and is young enough to be relevant for awhile.

Allegedly Lee is very available. Kerr could let Tristan Thompson and Tobias Harris battle it out for minutes at the four, or just go with Draymond Green. Either way, they would get depth and youth. Curry-Klay-Iguodala-Harris-Bogut. Their bench would now feature Barnes as well as a garbage man in Tristan and a ’15 first rounder to boot.

    Cleveland: stay tuned

    Three-team Deal No. 2:

Memphis receives: Anthony Morrow, Dion Waiters

New Orleans receives: Mike Miller, Tony Allen, Anderson Varejao

    Cleveland receives: Ryan Anderson

Memphis goes Conley-Waiters-Prince-Randolph-Gasol (if resigned). They get shooting off the bench with Morrow and Waiters provides youth and the perimeter bunch scoring they have lacked.

New Orleans gets a trio of playoff-tested savvy vets to prepare it for a playoff push. Varejao’s feisty ruggedness complements Anthony Davis better than Ryan Anderson’s finesse game. Mike Miller and Tony Allen can come off the bench in playoff games and knock down shots and get stops. Holiday-Gordon-Evans-Davis-Varejao. Austin Rivers, Tony Allen, Mike Miller, and Aminu off bench. This gives them flexibility to proceed without Eric Gordon in the mix.

Cleveland then drafts Embiid and signs Gordon Hayward. They can go Kyrie-Afflalo-Hayward-Anderson-Embiid. Kyrie, Afflalo, Hayward, and Anderson have all shot 40 percent from 3 at one point or another.

Their second unit would be Jack-Delly-Karasev-Bennett-Zeller.

Kyrie is 22, Afflalo is 28, Hayward is 24, Anderson is 26 and Embiid is 20. this is a good mix of youth and experience. The focal point of the team is Kyrie and Émbiid, but they are surrounded by veterans that defend and stretch the floor.

Embiid makes much more sense with a stretch four and Ryan Anderson is the epitome of a stretch four. A group like this would help Embiid to flourish. He wouldn’t be absolutely counted on to score as a rookie, but he’d have plenty of room to operate in light of all the outside threats and he’d get some easy buckets off Kyrie’s penetration.

If Hayward isn’t interested, Trevor Ariza might be.

So Cleveland gives up Anderson Varejao, Dion Waiters, Tristan Thompson, CJ Miles, and a 1st rounder next year for a guy with a broken neck in Ryan Anderson and Aaron Afflalo?

If Im Cleveland I pass on that

To be fair, the Cavs are run by morons. That being the case, I think this might have some legs.

Ryan Anderson averaged 19.8 points in the 22 games for which he was healthy. Arron Afflalo averaged over 18 points. Players that are proven, bonafide scorers in the NBA do not grow on trees.

The Cavs are already looking to deal Varejao, who has been injured four straight years, and Thompson, who seems to have hit his ceiling. I’m not convinced that Kyrie and Waiters co-existing is totally impossible, but I’d rather surround Embiid and Kyrie with players I’m sure are consummate professionals who defend and make shots.

As far as Ryan Anderson’s injury, his timetable from April to recover from surgery is 4-6 months. That could mean he’ll be on the court as soon as August. Athletes do in fact recover from injuries, see Westbrook, Russell and Manning, Peyton.

I like Dion Waiters going to Memphis for the sake of his production, from the offense being ran through Mike Conley.

It’ll be very interesting to see what kind of value David Lee has if he gets traded.  I remember someone (maybe Zach Lowe) saying that Lee is extremely available, but that nobody would be willing to take on his contract because he’s starting to be seen more and more as a guy that gives up as many points as he provides.  I’m not sure he has more value than a guy like Tobias Harris at this point, so I’d be pretty surprised if Orlando trades Tobias and Afflalo for Lee.

And I also think Cleveland is getting jobbed in this.
