Bmore_DCParticipantLos Angeles businessman Alex Meruelo’s deal to buy the Hawks is off. The agreement between Meruelo and Atlanta Spirit Group, signed in August and contingent on NBA approval, was mutually terminated Friday after Meruelo would not meet economic conditions placed on the deal by the league.Atlanta Journal Constitution
i guess its because of the lockout? i donno but whoever buys the Hawks is going to get a good team!

JaeEvolutionParticipantRead about this yesterday, very dissappointed. I don’t know what kind of owner Meruelo would have been but most everybody would be better than a group of old bastards who don’t know a thing about basketball. Poor draft decisions, poor contract management, and poor vision of the future are all these guys have to be proud of.

sammybuckeye13ParticipantIt’s a shame that a franchise that’s made so many good moves to turn themselves around — hiring of Mike Woodson a few years back, drafting Josh Smith, acquiring JJ, drafting Horford, taking a chance on Jamal Crawford — will be entirely negated by two bad moves: drafting Marvin Williams over D-Will/CP3/Paul when they actually needed a PG and then extending Joe Johnson for $120 million. This team needs not just a good but a great owner going forward to get the most of this team, which is still extremely talented.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantThe Hawks are a Team Stuck in Neutral…They’re good enuff for the playoffs, but not good enuff to win a title….
They need an owner thats not just buying the team as an investment, but someone that knows the game or is willing to let someone innovative come in with leading this team in a new direction…Becuz with this current crop of players, i dont see the challeging for a title anytime soon…

tuck243ParticipantAtlanta had one of the worst attendance in the league last year… Anyone who bought the Hawks would have been an idiot… You telling me even with a Playoff team that’s exciting I can’t fill the seats for a Playoff game? LOL… That’s ridiculous…

OhCanada-ParticipantSure they had a bad attendance but that doesnt matter. As an investment they have tons of potential. A good salesman can sell ice to an eskimo, selling Josh Smith shouldnt be that hard. The failure of selling th team should not be placed on the fans shoulders for not going to games, or the players for failing to advance further. That failure is due to the current "salesman"…or owners lack of committment towards selling the product.
