According to multiple sources, the Hawks have traded Marvin Williams to the Jazz in exchange for Devin Harris.

I like this trade for the Jazz, because it gives them a decent SF since CJ Miles will most likely leave in Free agency. But where do they go for a PG now?

    Thoughts?

Have the Jazz lost all faith in Gordon Hayward? Yeah, Marvin Williams is meh but what adding him on is going to cut into Haywards PT again. Last year, it was Josh Howard and CJ Miles but Gordon Hayward still managed a solid 11.8 ppg in about 31 minutes. I know he can play time at the 2 guard but I thought Burks would get more PT there. Meanwhile, the Hawks get a replacement backup PG to Jeff Teague so I guess its okay. The Hawks will continue to be mediocre if they keeping making trades for mediocre players.

The Jazz can solve their PG issue if they can acquire Kyle Lowery for Al Jefferson. The Rockets get another legit center even if Asik is signed to the long term deal and the Jazz get a stud PG who can lead them unlike Devin Harris. Other players would have to be involved for it to work though

Hayward played better at SG last year and I think that is where he will stay next season.

If this all works out and Prokhorov gets Deron AND Dwight AND Joe, I’m going to be pissed.

SOMEONE WHO TRADES THE #7 PICK FOR GERALD WALLACE DOES NOT DESERVE THIS DAMMIT!

That trade occurred before this one. That’s why this trade is "another"

I don’t think they gave up on Hayward at all. I think they just realized they are better when they play big with Hayward at the 2 and let him handle the ball more, which is why they traded for a guy like Mo Williams who can play off the ball better then Harris. Also a backcourt of Burks and Hayward could be a possibilty for stretches, as both are quality ball handlers and would be a huge size mismatch for any team.

The thought from what I have been reading in various articles is that the Jazz think that Alec Burks can play the point. I’m not so sure about that.

Marvin Williams is useless and a bust who has 2 years 16 mil remaing, Devin Harris is an expiring so that’s a win already for the Hawks. The Hawks were so desperate to get rid of Marvin last year they nearly threw in Josh Smith in a trade to Cleveland just for them to take Marvin off our hands. Even if Harris is just an average backup PG his expiring makes this a great deal, finally found a suitor for Marvin.

Hawk fans dont like Marvin, Jazz fans dont like Devin. Win Win trade. I still think Hayward will get more minutes then last year even with this trade. He and Burkes are our only wings with C.J. and Raja on their way out.

The Nets don’t have enough room in their salary cap to go after Dwight. They made the Joe Johnson deal knowing that their Dwight hopes were all but gone. They needed to make some major acquisition to even hope that Dwill would stay. First it was Dwight, but after they couldn’t get the deal done in March, they gave up and went after Joe Johnson instead. Of course they traded half their team to do it, and who says Dwill will sign with them? At least we knew that if the Nets got Dwight then Dwill would for sure sign with them. Was this really the right move for the Nets?

Now let’s get to what this forum is really about, The Jazz getting another Williams. I guess Jazz fans really like the name Williams. I guess they missed that last name a ton after they dealt dwill for Favors, Harris and some draft picks around the trade deadline of 2011. So what did Kevin O’Conner do to remind fans of that last name, he went out and acquired not 1 but 2 Williams’. Of course neither are Dwill, but I guess Mo and Marvin will have to suffice.

Okay of course that’s not the real reason why Kevin O’Conner made the trade but it adds a little humor to the two deals. Last year the Jazz shot a horrible 30% from 3 point land. Good enough for I believe 27th in the league. And it showed in the playoffs. The Spurs went on many 3 point spurts in the first round. As a matter of fact, if I remember correctly game 2 was such a blow out because of the Jazz shooting so horribly particularly from 3 point range and the Spurs shooting exceptionally well. If the Jazz shot better from 3, they would not have been swept. So what did the Jazz do to fix their 3 point shooting woes? They drafted a 42% 3 point shooter, Murphy, Acquired Mo Williams and Marvin Williams who both shot 38.9% from 3 last year. Respectable and two % points better than Harris (36%), who came on towards the end of the season, but other than that really sucked for much of his time in Utah. I guess his coming on at the end of the season last year proved to be too late. And the Jazz aren’t done making moves yet. And they retained Hayward who shot 34% from 3 point range but will undoubtedly improve now that it looks like he has moved permanenlty to the 2 spot (more on that later) I suspect that there will be one more move involving either Big AL or Millsap. And this will be the deal that this year’s Jazz offseason will be remembered for.

3 names that could come up in trade talks for either of these two are Danny Granger if the Pacers decide not to match Roy Hibbert’s max deal offer from the Blazers, Kevin Martin of the Rockets and Andre Igoudala of the Sixers. I’d prefer Granger, but if Pacers decide to match Hibbert’s deal (likely) then I’ll settle for Martin.

The Jazz are likely to lose CJ Miles, and possibly Josh Howard who are free agents this year. With Raja Bell not doing too well and as a result also likely on the move, the Jazz look extremely thin at the 2 and 3 guard, leaving only Burks and Hayward left. Now they have Hayward, Marvin Williams, Burks, and Murphy. I expect Josh Howard to resign and the Jazz to go after either Kevin Martin, Danny Granger pr Andre Igoudala as I mentioned previously. So by the end of the offseason the Jazz could have 3 SG’s(Hayward, Burks, Murphy) and 3 SF’s (Granger or Martin, Marvin Williams, and Josh Howard.)

Even though Hayward was drafted as a Small Forward in 2009, we always knew he was versatile. Last year he especially proved that he played better at SG. And the Jazz played better with a big lineup moving Hayward to the 2, Millsap to the 3 and inserting Favors at either the 4 or 5 spot with Jefferson playing the other one left. Now with Marvin Williams it looks like Hayward will move to his assumed natural position of 2 guard more permanently.

Lineups as of this moment after the 2 current trades of Williamses that have been made:

    Mo Williams/Tinsley/Watson

    Hayward/Burks/Murphy/Bell

Marvin Williams (Josh Howard has not resigned with the team yet although I do expect him to, come July 11th when players can start signing contracts)

    Millsap/Favors/Evans

    Jefferson/Kanter

What I expect the lineups to look like after offseason moves are over with:

    Mo Williams/Tinsley/Watson

    Hayward/Burks/Murphy

Granger or Kevin Martin or Iggy/Marvin Williams/Josh Howard

    Millsap/Evans

    Favors/Kanter
