I know this topic has been discussed before, but I will reopen it.  Roy just went toe-to-toe with Cal for P.J. Washington and lost.  I heard Roy had been recruting PJ extremely hard for the last 2 years and made him a priority.  I’m beginning to question if Roy will ever be able to lure top 5 talent to Chapel Hill ever again during his tenure.  Kevin Knox is the last blue chip recruit on Carolina’s radar and I believe he goes with Duke.  The gap between recruiting with Kansas, Duke, and Kentucky has never been greater than it is right now.  Even with the NCAA cloud appearing to be clearing over Chapel Hill, it seems like the general consensus among top recruits and especially one and dones is that Carolina is not the place to be for a year to prepare for the NBA.  The last top player Roy had sign was Harrison Barnes 6 years ago.  Carolina did play in the national championship game last year with Brice Johnson, a former four star recruit and Marcus Paige, a former top 30 guy leading the way.  Justin Jackson, Joel Berry and Theo Pinson were all five star guys, but have stuck around for 3 years.  My question is does Carolina have to wait for Roy’s successor until they are able to land a top recruit again?

of the possible ncaa sanctions and no one and done success might be to much to over come for Roy but saying that they were in the National championship game and damn near won the thing. This success will keep Roy on the job plus didnt he recently extend his contract? I do however think if he gets these fringe guys to stay for 3/4 years UNC will generally be in the title hunt( or top 15) but he does better with Star power however long theyve been at the sch. I guess it how you want your wins. Once the Ncaa have officially clodsed their investigation though there is some hope

Better hope for Kevin Knox to go with Jalek.. That will change a ton. Felton is a beast, one and done and Knox would be a great compliment

Jalek Felton. UNC hasn’t had a combo guard this talented since Joseph Forte.

Why on earth didnt they target DJ Vaseljevic in recruiting.

The man I claimed is the best shooter in college basketball already hit 3 triples in his first game as a Miami Hurricane.

3pt shooting is exactly what UNC needs. They snoozed. They lose.

I feel your frustration. Sadly as much as we are held to believe PJ was nearly a tarheel I believe he was UK all the way. Kevin Knox is a Duke lock and Vanderbilt dont even waste your time believing Roy has a chance. Its so frustrating to whiff on the top prospects year in year out. Duke and UK are head and shoulders. Hell at this point Lorenzo Romar is kicking ole Roy’s butt with the blue chippers. What really killed UNC is the recent success of UK a surefire way to NBA. Even Shaq says its a waste of time to go anywhere else if you have nba aspirations. Another blow to unc recruiting is Coach K’s USA Basketball for 8 freaking years. Lets not forget the academic scandal. I do like to think though that it just takes that one recruit to connect with Roy and the cycle of blue chippers will start rolling. Maybe that one guy is Jalek. Maybe its Leaky Black. I do feel Roy needs to diversify and head to the west coast instead of always leaning on south carolina or virginia for these fringe 4 star players. I also hear that the recruits dont really connect with the UNC staff because they are up there in age. Not saying they are out of touch but these young cats will connect easier with a Jeff Capel, Kenny Payne than Steve Robinson and Roy. Hopefully Ncballer has some news for us.

Team looked pretty good tonight. Jackson and Berry were lightning it up from downtown and got new career highs. Jackson really wants to play in the NBA.
