So assuming that all of our draft picks are going to be on the roster opening day, who else should we sign? With all of our drafted players we would still only have 10 players ready to go opening day. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=freeagents-09-10. This is the list of free agents. The way I see it we would need another beteran big and a veteran swingman. Chris Anderson would be a nice energy guy to bring off the bench, but I’m sure there are a lot of teams who will have interest in him. The price might be to high. Wilcox would also be a nice big to bring off of the bench. For swingmen I like Rodney Carney, he is still young and plays good D. Trenton Hassel is also a solid defender, who could give some us some nice minutes off of the bench. Another option might be the spurs Ima Udoka, who is also known for his deffense and could be had pretty cheap. I know these are not the best free agents out there, but taking into factor what we can afford and what we need I think these would be pretty good fits. I’m just sick of watching them give up 105 points a night. We need some D

i think we should resign IKE Diogu, he should be a pretty good back up at a cheap price. If not there are more expensive players like Gooden, wallace, boozer. But i dont think we should go that route cause it will slow the younger guys development. I would like us to sign Andre Miller cause he is more proven than beno. I would also like Shawn Marion, He is still worth 10 million a season. He just finsh his contract and i dont think anyone will sign the guy for the same price. He has always been consistent on both sides of the floor. Hes getting old but still alot better than any of our current SF.
we can also try and trade for David Lee. But that will be difficult because the Knicks seem committed to him. there eve stephon murbury whom i see as a player that can go back to being all star level and he will probably be signed less than 10 million a year. there just so many options, but i think we should try and sign either Andre Miller or Shawn Marion. either one is an impact player. … i did not mention Artest becasue i am sure the houston will resign him and trade McGrady to another team that needs a talented weakling. I only metioned PG and SF because I am sure that the kings will draft a BIG in the draft. I am hoping that they Draft Rubio and then trade the other 2 drafts to move up and pick a big man like. BJ Mullens. I seen the guy work out and he is honestly the fastest and most athlethic 6’11 or above player in the whole draft.

How much money do you think the Kings have? Last year they made negative dollars. You are the type of kings fan who make the rest of us look stupid. Why in the world would we draft BJ Mullens? We have Thompson and Hawes. Mullens will do the same things they both do. Andre Miller will only slow the development of whatever point guard we get in the draft, so that wouldnt be a very smart signing. Its not like he is a savior. Shawn Marion has shown that he can do nothing outside of D’antoni’s system. That would be a huge waste of money and time. I can’t believe you even mentioned marburry. The only good thing you said was what we should resign Ike cheap.

i am just throwing out options. thats all. we have alot of mony to spend and hopefully the kings spend it wisely. they are very far from the salary capp and a smart big player deal will mean more revenue. you probably have not watched BJ mullens, Because his game is completely different than hawes or thompson. he is more athletic than both and younger. we do need 1 backup center and 1 back up PF. if IKE is resign we need 1 back up center. Our real issue is point gaurd and i dont think the media has judge the PG fairly because there are alot of great PG on both the draft and Free agent. I personally think the best PG out there right now is andre miller and chris duhon. duhon perferaly because it looks like he finally came out of his shell and he will have a cheap price tag. do you every watch the other teams play and see who is available? you need to stop listenng/reading other peoples articles and evaluate talent yourself so you can understand what your talking about!!!!!

Please do some research. We do not have a lot of money. We are not going to go very far over the cap because of the luxury tax. The Moaloofs are not going to pay the tax for a team that did not turn a profit, Mullens is 1 maybe 2 years younger than Hawes and Thompson, age is not an arguement. Lets just say this. The only way the kings would even consider Mullens, is if he is available at 31. He didn’t even play well at Ohio State. Andre Miller is not a savior. He is in his 30’s and might make the team a little better in the short run, but in the end would just end up being another contract we would be waiting to unload. He has two more years as a mid level starting point gaurd in the nba. Duhon is a good player and I wish they would have signed him last year instead of Udrih. Please Please Please do some research, so you know what you are talking about. Duhon is not a free agent this year. It really just tarnishes your arguement when you say things like that. I even posted a link of the free agents to avoid these blunders. Come on, Man

That guy has no idea what he is talking about.

I think we should let Diogu walk. He played well for two meaningless games, he has proven nothing throughout the rest of his career. The guy i’d go after is Brandon Bass. You need three big men in a rotation, and Hawes, Thompson, and Bass would be a great rotation of young bigs with upside. There would be a lot of teams after him, but we would be one of the few teams who could offer above the MLE. I would take him for around 7 mil, then we would still have some cap space next season and have three good big men.

I just think we would be getting basically the same player in diogu as we are in bass. Diogu has never been given a real chance to play. His rookie year he was given a decent amount of minutes and that was his best season. Bass might be the flashier name, but I think diogu would be just as solid and way cheaper. If we want to spend 7 mil on one player lets go get the birdman Chris Anderson. I would rather see Petrie spend that 7 mil on 2 or three players. Remember we only have 7 under contract right now.al

But if we are resigning Ike we’ll have to pay what? $2-3 mil for two years? Thats not a bad move, but if he is a bust he will just be another contract we are waiting out to go along with Beno, Thomas, and Noc. I am tired of unproductive players and there is probably a 50/50 chance that thats what he ends up being. I just think we need to look for proven players and that is Bass. But i wouldnt be all that upset if we did resign Ike.

i am just throwing option out there. marburry will bring alot of money because of his hype and he will be also be alot cheaper than his privious contract. Yes the kings earned negative dollars last year but they are now very far from reaching salary capp. keep thinking the way biggafisch is thinking and the kings will stay borke for a long time. Kings have enough money right now to sign a big player name. I dont think that the right move but thats another option. Signing a good deal mean a more entertaing product for the sacramento area. we do need another legit center behind hawes and even another legit PF. hopefully we sign IKE. I have probably been watching the kings much longer than biggafisch so for you to say my options are stupid is redundant because i am just throwing out possibilities that are both business essential and may bring success. you talk about our two bigs and hopefully they do grow and become sucessfull only time will tell. You fans only look at what they do positive and never look at what they need to do to improve.

Tell me. What would Marburry do for the kings? He is horrible. Did you see him in Boston? Marburry has never made a team better. He is a cancer. The only place a team benefited from him was when he was in Min. Phoenix became worse after they got him. I don’t think New york even once made the playoffs with him. New Jersey became a finals team after they traded him. He is a team Killer! He would be a horrible influence to bring around all of our young guys. He would encourage them to quit if they don’t like westphals system, just like he did in NY. Marburry, just you suggesting that shows me how low your nba IQ is. Yes you might have been watching the kings for a long time, but that just means you have lived in sac for a long time. It doesn’t mean that you know anything about the nba and how it works. Why don’t you do some research, as well? Where it stands right now we have about 53 mil in garunteeed money going to next years squad. The cap is set to probably be around 57 mil. Once you add in rookie salaries we are up to about 56 mil. HMMMM, where did all that money go? The Maloofs are not going to want to pay a tax on a team that didn’t even turn a profit last year. We have our midlevel exception, plus a million dollars. That is not enough money to spend, when we need to sign at least three players. After we sign our rookies we will still only have 10 players under contract. You looked at the list. Saw a few names that you knew, and thought they would look great in a kings uniform. However, you know nothing about free agency. Nothing about building a team. You might have a Peja Stojackavic jersey in you or your sons closet, but I’m sorry to inform that does not mean you know things about basketball. You might be a kings fan, which is great, but your opinions do not hold much weight. Petrie would laugh at thoose options.

i am looking at this in a business perpective and Marbury.. not saying he was quality last year but he played very few games to put some real evaluation to this. yes he is viewed as poison i wont argue, is he really poison or is it the bad Knicks critics that exposed him. Sacramento has a reputation of helping players like Marburr….WEBBER, ARTEST. dont think is is a savior at all. Duhon is a better than BENO and i know he is not a free agent. but the knicks are thinking about the 2010 free agent list and so are other teams. they might be dumping most of their players this year via trade ,release ect…because of this 2010 free agent. this year looks like the big market teams will be willing to release qualioty players for salary capp freedom to try and get Lebron, wade, bosh, carmelo, and many other star players. Thats why iam throwing options. this year is like a basketball player flea market to prepare for 2010!!!!!!! I have done my research and the kings will have appox. 42,000,000 of salaries. the figures you showed were counting other players that wont be with the kings or have any salary effect. I have cuducted my research.

I think we should seriously consider Hakim Warrick. He can play both forward positions, is a decent scorer and rebounder, wont be too expensive and is excellent off the bench.

the kings did not help artest at all! if he even got so much as a speeding ticket stern would have kicked him out of the nba for good after what he did in indiana. sacramento didnt help him he just decided he likes playing basketball instead of beating up fans.

Do you seriously think the Kings should take BJ Mullins with the forth overall pick?? Wow… Did anyone other than me watch this scrub in college?? He could not start for the mighty Ohio St. Buckeyes. And when he did play, he went for about 9pts and 4rebs. Wow, yeah thats explosive. Who cares what he looks like in workouts. Kwame Brown was an absolute beast in individual workouts. We need help at pg big time. This is a guard driven league. Draft Rubio, then maybe Terrence Williams if he is there, or Sam Young. There is your starting lineup— Rubio, Martin, Williams/Young, Thompson, Hawes. Very young, very talented. You have to remember with free agents, who can we get to play in Sac? Not many. Someone said Gooden? Good call. He was just here, and quickly asked to leave. The only way we get better is drafting well.

Who the Kings sign as a free agent is really dependent upon who they end up with in the draft. If they move back at some point & add picks (which I think they should), they could be bringing in 4 or 5 rookies next year and the need for free agents goes down. If they stick with their 3 picks, and maybe one is a foreign player that won’t come over right away, the need to add via free agency goes up.

As far as Diogu & McCants go, we’ll have to wait & see what kind of offers come in. My guess is we lose McCants & Diogu’s is ours to keep if we want him.

Signing a new free agent will only make sense if he is someone that is viewed as part of the long-term solution, and I would be very careful about committing money to someone like that at this point, or they are a short-term role player. This could be someone like a veteran PG (Think more Bobby Jackson & less Miller or (god forbid) Starbury) to help mentor whoever our rookie PG is or another big to help push Thompson and Hawes. My guess is we add one, maybe two guys, to short-term deals and wait to sign a splashy free agent until our roster is better equipped to both lure & support him.
