Lotto StudParticipantI know that if you are with a company you cannot wear other gear such as Adidas or Reebok. There are lots of players with Nike who do not have signature shoes, but I would like to know are they allowed to wear any Nike shoe from the past. Players like Lamar Odom who are with Nike wear Kobe’s signature shoes throughout the season, so I see why it would not be a problem to bring back the throwbacks like Barkley’s, Penny’s, Pippen’s, Payton’s etc. It seems like the only time you see players bring back the old shoes is when they lose their deals, such as Kobe & Gilbert. When Kobe lost his deal with Adidas, he wore every shoe there was from Nike & Reebok, and now that Gilbert does not have a deal he is wearing any & everything, which brought me to wonder why players who have deals don’t wear the throwback shoes.
Does anyone know what are the stipulations of a Nike contract, if you are an athlete who has a deal with them?
Can you wear throwback shoes?

llperezdoesnt answer your question but i remember reading an article about sneaker endorsments a long time ago.
back in the 90’s over half the nba had sneaker deals. Companies like nike were signing every nba player who was even remotely good and paying them money to wear their shoes. Heck i remember seeing a haywood workman comerical lol. But in the late 90’s early 2000’s shoe companies realized it really only made sense to pay the big dogs who were gonna move shoes. Everyone else not under contract gets all the free shoes they want if they request them but they dont have to stick to one shoe brand and they dont get paid.

Lotto StudParticipantWhy don’t NBA players wear throwbacks though?
I’m sure it is something up with that, because college players wear all the throwbacks. Joe Jackson had the Penny’s on today.
