GrandmamaParticipantThese guys are clearly the two best centers in the league. A few months ago Shaq stated that Bynum was the best center in the league and it rubbed some people the wrong way. I’m guessing there are many out there that the argument isn’t even close. Well I looked up their stats this year, and they’re a lot closer in terms of production than you think.
These stats are on a PER 36min basis.
Bynum: 19.1ppg, 12.1rpg, 1.4ast, .5stl, 2.0blk, 56fg%, 69ft%
Howard: 19.4ppg, 13.7rpg, 1.8ast, 1.4stl, 2.0blk, 57fg%, 49ft%
Those numbers are extremely similar, other than one more steal a game for Howard and 20 points better in free throw % for Bynum. I do think Howard is the better player, but it’s a lot closer than most people probably think. One thing I think should be taken into account is that Howard is the number one option in Orlando while Bynum is only the second option, and at times maybe the third option behind Gasol. Bynum’s scoring potential is capped playing alongside Kobe and Gasol.
With all that being said, do you think Bynum can overtake Howard as the best center within the next few years?

JunkYardDogParticipantmore durability for howard…. and it’s major for your strating center.
who is the most immature between those two ?…. tough question….
I’d choose marc gasol : less expensive, hard worker, no ego issue, leadership skills, great teammate…

lmao, that is definitely a tough one
I’d choose marc gasol : less expensive, hard worker, no ego issue, leadership skills, great teammate…
I like Gasol too, but he isn’t quite on these guy’s level yet.

JunkYardDogParticipantBynum this year has a very poor body language (but much better stats…) :
did he get big headed ? or was he just very well managed by phil jackson ?

HaleParticipantI still Howard is quite a bit better. He doesn’t have Kobe or Pao drawing defenders away from him. Instead he has a bunch of shooters who play off of Howard’s dominance. He’s a better defender, better rebounder and is asked to do a lot more then Bynum. I think people don’t realize how many poor defenders Orlando has on their team, but they get away with it because Howard erases so many of their mistakes. Bynum is easily #2 in my opinion though, he’s much more skilled in the paint and is one of the few guys in the NBA who can match up with Howard.

Chilbert arenasParticipantIf Bynum isn’t getting the ball on offense he can disappear on defence. Dwight plays hard on D and rebounds no matter how many touches he gets.

Sharp ShooterParticipantIll take monroe….young (21), cheap, great passer, STRONG WORK ETHIC, durable, and most importantly….coachable…not gonna get you alot of blocks but will get alot of still with his quick hands..
I used to like howard until he started to open his mouth and whine still hasn’t improved on post moves, still relies on power…bynum is just all around immature and i think that he’ll never improve his attitude and he has durability issues(knees are an issue)
I like gasol, but i like monroe better.

bloodshyParticipantBynum has really stepped up his game this year. If this same post had gone up last year, the poster would have -20 in the first ten minutes. I definitely still think Dwight is better, but Bynum’s play of late has made this a topic intelligent people can disagree on.

dede21They are not clearly the two best, Howard is clearly the best. There is a much bigger gap between Howard and Bynum than their is between Bynum and Gasol or or Garnett who are better defenders, passers, shooters you can argue they are better players than Bynum right now though Bynum has potential to get better. Bynum is not much better than Tyson Chandler either
