Guys does the whole movement from the players to team up with superstars stop? Or slow down? That players see that you can build a team around one superstar and win it all. Will teams stop with trading the farm to these guys? All sports are copy cats leagues, in the NBA last summer it was the super teams… It will be fun to see where the NBA goes from here…

I don’t think the results of these finals will change players minds. If Howard wants to play in Dallas and CP3 wants to join him, Cuban would probably be extremely tempted to pull the triggers on potential deals to bring them in, even though he saw first hand that a team with one star can win a championship. I’m sure Dwight, CP3, Dirk, and Carlisle would all be excited about the possibility of playing together as well.

Also, look at the differnce between the two teams in the Finals this year. The Mavs had to work for 5 years (after already having an extremely solid core) to get back to the Finals and win a title, took 13 years total to build a team that would win a title around Dirk.

The Heat, on the other hand, tore their entire team down minus Wade, Haslem, and Chalmers (correct me if I left anyone out) then signed a couple stars and inexpensive role players/D-leaguers and made it to the Finals in their first year.

It’s probably easier to find the right mix (get enough talent) to do the Super-Team thing if that route is available, but it is definitely possible to do it the way the Mavs did (and more respectable as well, in my opinion)

No, but i think it shows that you at least need players that fit in the right roles. If it were a jigsaw puzzle Dallas’ peices would all fit together, whereas Miamis peices didn’t match as much and sort of overlapped.

LeBrick and Wade have similar style games, and Bosh doesn’t really count as a big man.

Miami does not work. Did they win a championship this year? No. Do they have pieces that could win it over time? I do not see why not. Look at Dallas. They went to the championship in 2006 and lost, than they got better pieces around their two marquee players and they won. I do not see why Miami will have issues doing the same thing personally. All they need is time and cohesion, and they should be right back in the hunt next year. Yes, this season does not count as a success, but it does not mean their window of opportunity is closed when all of there best players are still under 30. You guys have every right to jab at them and say they do not fit, or overlap, but they were pretty darn close this year and I do not see why they are not better next year barring injuries to major pieces.

totally agree, they were a few pieces short this year.  this is a team sport, sorry but I have to keep re-iterating that…and so many things have to go right for you to win a championship.  take nothing away from Dallas, but they had to eventually get past the Lakers to achieve this and finally they did.  they have always had San Antonio standing in their way at some point and this year they didnt.  I think even in the postseason we saw a few different variations of the Heat and that shows that they tried to adjust to each team…they just couldnt against Dallas.  And it was against Dallas where some of their biggest flaws were exposed.  I will say again, if they can get Rip Hamilton, that could be a huge difference right there.  If not, look for a good off-ball shooter in the draft…one who is NOT a defensive liability.  Back on topic a bit…this will only increase the chances of stars teaming up IMO.  With Miami winning the East this year and probably going to improve next year….do you really think the Bulls have a chance without adding another big-timer with Rose?

    The system works.

Did any of you guys watch games 1-4?  Miami was in PRIME position to win each one of those games.  They could have SWEPT the Mavericks if their defense tightened up and they closed out games correctly down the stretch.  Since they did not, it’s an absolute failure and Spoelstra should be fired, LeBron or Bosh should be traded, and no other teams will make superteams?

    Get real.

I honestly believe this summer is all about Rip Hamilton. You look at championship teams and they need a 2guard either to start or off the bench.

Lakers need someone to replace Shannon Brown.

Celtics need someone to replace Delonte West.

Chicago needs someone to play the 2 guard.

Miami needs someone that moves well off-ball.

There aren’t too many teams that are in the position to do what Miami did this summer… Plus a lot will depend on the new CBA.

I think Dallas has shown that it doesn’t take a team full of superstars to win a championship. IF you look at Dallas, they had so many players contributing. You had Kidd doing his thing with the ball. You had Barea doing his thing with the ball. You had Marion doing his thing. You had Chandler, Terry… It was a total team effort, not just it’s superstar. And Dirk trusted his teammates to the fullest. Not everything had to go through Dirk. There was total trust and confidence in every player on that team, while everything on Miami either went through LeBron or Wade… Just a bunch of isolations with everyone else standing and watching.

Dallas was good enough to win in 2006 just couldn’t get it done in the clutch.

Took 13 years to win a title not be a contender and Dallas did make the Conf. Finals in 2003 they’ve been contenders for a while.  Winning in the West with the Lakers, Spurs and other teams is a lot harder than in the East.

#itsfunny that people tend to forgot that Dallas has an OLD super team themselves. OF COURSE they are NOWHERE near the players they once were, shells of their former selves. BUT they are full of experience, and can still play the game. Shawn Marion, Jason Terry, Tyson Chandler, Jason Kidd…all farely decent guys.! Each have been great in their prime when they were younger, this was not a ONE-man show as much as you imagine, each of those players did their part to get to the championship, whether indicated by their stats or what u can’t see on paper.
