RUDEBOY_ParticipantI was getting something to drink after working out this morning..And some dude started a conversation about basketball..We talked about the Celtics beating the Heat then the Cavs beating the Celtics. He asked me what i thought of Harrison Barnes..I said he reminds me of a former TarHeel name Walter Davis..He laughed and said at least Davis was an allstar..Barnes will be a bust..He compared Harrison Barnes to Felipe Lopez..He said Barnes is overrated and like Lopez he will never live up to the hype or expectations fans or members of the media heaped upon him..He said he sees some of the same qualities in Harrison Barnes that Lopez had..Superior athleteic skills ,that make exciting plays that thrill the fans..All style but no substance…He said Barnes is the top rated prospect right now but after the season…And Lopez might’ve been a top 3 pick if he had came out straight out of high school..And people say the same thing about Barnes…
I say you should give a player a chance to play his 1st game before making comparisons….

Moon RiverParticipantAgreed- you have to give the kid a chance to play first. Lopez was also a product of the NYC hype machine. Barnes is from that mega media market of Iowa. Lets see the kid play college ball before we declare him a bust in the Association.

MkadozaParticipantThe hype may be similar, but the skill set isnt. Lopez showed no improvement in college and was one demensional offensively. He was a Nick Young who couldn’t shoot. Selby more Felipe Lopez than Barnes. In my opinion of course.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantThis is an old thread from before the college basketball season started
Harrison Barnes still have a chance to be a good player 1 day…But look like some people were right Harrison Barnes might’ve been Over Hyped!!!!

JoeWolf1Barnes has really good size and a good mid range game, he may not live up to his hype ( or he may it’s still early) but worst case scenario being 6’8” with his jumper will make him at least a servicable player in the league. IMO

JoeWolf1You would think they’d be higher if he were to have signed at Iowa and lower, but more efficient at Kentucky. When I watch UNC I just see a team full of talent, but no identity. I feel the point guard has to take some of the blame for that kind of critisism and I think Larry Drew is a problem as to why UNC isn’t living up to their talent level, and I feel not having a good point guard has effected Barnes’ production because he is spot up shooter.

Sonny RedParticipantNot likely, don’t forget Felipe Lopez had the NYC hype machine behind him, and was most likely never good as his reputation. Barnes is struggling, but you can see he has skills, he might not be a great player at the next level, but he will play there.

omphalosParticipantBarnes is not excelling as a spot up shooter at the moment, he seems a lot more comfortable creating his own shot, but he doesn’t get the rock consistently enough to have the green light to dominate. I also noticed in the game I watched recently that he starts off shaky but gets better as the game progresses.
Barnes still has a lot of talent, but he needs more responsibility and to be more assertive; I don’t think his problems are physical, it’s a mental battle he needs to win.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantI hope the media doesnt overhype another freshman like they did Barnes…Give them a chance to get comfortable with college life and the speed of the college game..before annointing them the next Chosen 1…

the lake showIt is similar but not the same. Lopez couldn’t shoot in highschool but he was very good at driving. He wasn’t very fundamentally sound either. And Lopez didn’t really improve much from his JR year in Hs to his SR year in college
