Question to Bulls fans, bc I am sure your the ones who really watched Rose this year. How well did he do last season? I see the stays, but do you feel he can get back to an all star caliber player? Mvp?

Are you willing to move him, and if so, what do you want in return? Would a package of Teague and Splitter get it done? Just giving a baseline bc I truly do not know his value right now.

He played like a league average/below average starting point guard. I’d love to trade him, but he has literally 0 value right now. Even expiring contracts aren’t worth that mich any more with shorter contracts and the cap space explosion.

I’d like to see him reinvent his career,  Bill Walton style, as an impact sub. Could be a sixth man of the year candidate in the right situation – Spurs, Clippers or Raps for instance.

Dude I hope you are wrong. I’ll hate for this to be true. Do you think he just needs more time to get back into game shape or it’s a wrap for him?

He’s never going to be the old d-rose – it’s just not possible. But expectations are everything – and if he takes the MLE and a bench role somewhere, expectations are non existent and v difficult to turn it round.

Not a Bulls fan but I can say I dont see Rose getting back to All-Star form. At least not with this team. He has to drastically improve his jump shot if he’s going to be an all-star again. That means he’ll have to change his offensive approach mentally.

He did change his mental approach this year.  He’s just not skilled or smart enough to play that way and be effective.

Dude was out of the game for like 3 years, a lot of that time being spent working on his jumper and it’s still broken.  I wouldn’t count on him improving that aspect much.  He’s just not a natural shooter.

He also spent a ton of time on the sideline or in film sessions while he was out.  I was hoping that would translate to a better understanding of the game and it would lead to him visualizing the game more clearly, but that didn’t happen either.

Trade him? Sure, I’d be down, but IDK what for. Expiring contracts? He’s already an expiring.  Maybe expirings plus picks, but I don’t see a team giving up a valuable pick for a Rose rental.

As for Teague/Splitter, no thanks. I’d rather have an expiring Rose.

I think you can always improve your jump shot. Its not about shooting 3’s all day. If he develops a nice mid-range game he can produce very efficiently. What’s happening is due to those knee injuries, D-Rose is aging quicker than the average player. But in actuality all of the Uber-athletic young stars you see today are going to have to rely on fundamentals later in their career (or they can’t solely rely on athleticism). Derrick is just going through that now + he needs the right fit. Those players that I mentioned that age – they all make sure they’re in the right system at that point in their careers.

I am not a bulls fan(especially with their current management still being there)..However I did like the thibs era bulls as he had them fighting every night…

D-rose did play more games this season which is promising I think it was like 66 games which was up from last year..Which is promising if you are looking at durability however his style of play has changed he is: less agressive,he drives less and settles for more jumpers and fewer floaters like he used to..Which isn’t his game..

I don’t know if he gets back to allstar level play unless he somehow returns to 08-12 version of himself…He will be a solid player but allstar/franchise level maybe not…Due to all the injuries piling up…

I don’t think Atlanta takes this call for teague and splitter especially if the are looking at trading Dennis Schroder(who probably would get the most out of the two due to upside).

I see D-rose being allowed to expire(as there are no pg options this offseason) and the bulls either chasing someone next offseason or going full rebuild..

I don’t see the Bulls trading him as he is going into the last year of his deal and so the value would not be as great as it could be. Also there is still that question can D-Rose get back to anything like his pre-injury form, last season he wasn’t as good as he was in 2014-15 but he got through 15 more games.

There is the issue that he seems to get a lot of minor injures too and misses odd games or a small run of games. Will he ever be able to give a team 75 plus games a season I wonder.

He is still a good NBA player but he isn’t currently an elite one and he hasn’t been able to remould his game to make himself more of a creative PG and become a better 3 point shooter.

I do honestly wonder if we will ever see the old D-Rose again as his game was so much based on athleticism and speed and without it he goes back into the pack of merely good NBA players.

I more than anyone would love to see the old D-Rose back or as near to that as we will ever get.

Also when his current deal expires if he doesn’t think he can play to his old level again, go all out to get on a real contender to try and get a title to his name if he won’t play until his mid to late 30’s.

The MVP Rose is never coming back. It’s just not. He’s not that guy anymore. Injuries sapped his explosiveness.

That doesn’t mean he can’t be a good player. Guys lose their athleticism and have to recreate themselves all the time. It doesnt seem like Rose has effectively done that. He’s okay…but he’s not a good shooter, he’s not a great facilitator and he’s an okay defender.

He’s a league-average level PG at this point I think.

Hard to see a team trading for him because to do so, you’d have to give up enough assets to make the money work. Not many guys performing like he is, making the money he is at this point.

As a knicks fan I would take him and take that chance on him. I’m not sure what we can offer for him but I would like for him to be our point guard. I think he would do great with Porzingis and Melo . he can drive and dish out for 3s. I believe he will have a great next season.

I do wonder can D-Rose re-invent himself like say Grant Hill or McDyess did or might he be a T-Mac type player where once his speed has gone, he’s just not the same.

D-Rose as a 16/17ppg player is still a good player and if he worked on his shooting and distribution, he could play for many more years. D-Rose always seemed to have a decent Basketball IQ so hopefully he can adapt.

One of the things about Rose’s season that is difficult to account for is the extent that double vision played a role in his early season struggles. Rose mentioned it. Everyone with the Bulls mentioned it. He mostly just played through it, but for the most part ineffectively. I don’t really know how a guy can play basketball well with double vision. Given the stark difference in his shooting from over the course of the season (38.6% in Oct/Nov/Dec and 45.3% from there on, 24.6% and 32.9% from three, and 72.2% and 84.1% from the line), it is probably fair to say that his demise is overstated, but the concern over his ability to stay healthy is very much real.

I do not think the Bulls are going to trade Rose or Butler. If they deal Rose, they cannot get in return what they would have with him if he can stay healthy. In the case of Butler, they have a guy who has continued to add to his game and get better every year, and he accepted a five year contract at pre-cap-balloon money. The team was unlucky with health and arrogant in regards to how easy it would be to transtion from a defense first to a pacey offensive style. What do they learn from it? I don’t think they need to panic and deal from their strength. They need a two-way small forward to ensure Butler can bully shooting guards, and will aid in rebuilding a defensive core. If Pau leaves in free agency, they need to mend fences with Noah and maybe also bring in a young center with some offensive game (Ellenson?) as a longer term heir. Finding a proper wing partner to Butler is going to be difficult. Almost everyone is going to have money to chase the obvious free agent candidates, and the more interesting wings in the draft would force Butler to the 3.
