It was one heck of a show this week in Toronto, home of the St.Michael’s College 51st Annual Tournament.  It was everything we expected and more, as Vaughan once again proved they are the team to beat for OFSAAAA, and Kevin Pangos proved he was the best player still suiting up in our country

    CHAMPIONSHIP SUNDAY RESULTS

    Championship Semi-finals:
    G19: Denison 67 (Kevin Pangos 19) – Mother Teresa 62 (Deshaun Williams 21)
    G20: Vaughan 75 (Andrew Wiggins 25) – Eastern Commerce 65 (Ammanuel Diressa 26)

Consolation Finals: Loyola (Oakville) 81 (Mike Lafricain 31) – Henry Carr 74 (Shane Osayande 16)

Third Place Game: Eastern Commerce 66 (Aaron Best 19) – Mother Teresa 62 (Adika Peter-McNeilly 15)

Championship Finals: Vaughan 85 (Andrew Wiggins 28) – Denison 76 (Kevin Pangos 48)

    MARQUEE MATCHUP

As the tournament progressed and Dr. Denison continued winning, the potential Wiggins vs. Pangos battle was becoming more and more anticipated.   In the end, the fans got what they asked for and boy did these two deliver the goods.  While Kevin won the individual battle, it was Andrew and Vaughan who won the war.  Check out the highlights !!

    ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAMS

    MVP- Kevin Pangos, Dr. Densison

Kevin scored 28 points vs. Carr, 36 vs. Jarvis, 19 vs. MT, and 48 in the Championship game vs. Vaughan.  He elevated the play of his teammates, was always in control of tempo, shot the heck out of the basketball, and proved he’s more than just a pass first floor general.  An absolutely sensational weekend for the future Gonzaga Bulldog.

Andrew Wiggins is the truth man… He reminds me of Rudy Gay when Gay was senior in high school, yet this kid is only a freshman….. He has as high of a ceiling as I’ve seen from any high school small forward in a while.

Ahh good ol’ Canadian basketball…. Where no one is taller than 6’5 lol except for Andrew Wiggins.

Anyways! Wiggins looks solid and Pangos reminds me of Andy Rautins.

This was a couple weeks ago, and man did it look like a great match-up. My friend and I might try to see Vaughn play sometime, Wiggins looks like a fantastic prospect. Pangos has been the great Canadian hope for quite a while now, and he looked fantastic in the vid, his shot is super quick and he definitely has above average athleticism, especially compared to Canadian comp. Wiggins has killed it here thus far, and is still classified as being a freshman in HS. I think he is planning (well, with a push from his father) on playing at a prep in the States for the remainder of HS. Nonetheless, the guy seems to be incredibly advanced for his age. Sure, there have been many that have not kept it up through the years, but he is the son of a former NBA player and an Olympic medalist, pretty amazing genes. He has two brothers, though they were both older and I think Andrew got the ideal height (hearing 6’6-6’7). His jumper needs work, but seems much improved over tape I had seen before. Plus, he has been a key contributor against older competition, and just seems incredibly fluid as an athlete. Schea Cotton was much the same way, but I have a feeling Andrew will have guidance from his parents to turn into a pretty special player down the line.

Mikey i had heard over the summer that he was supposed to be going to a high school in North Carolina(i think)  that has a few canadian players on the team and the coach has something to do wth the Canadian national basketball program, but his father said he shouldnt go until he is ready to be that far away from home.

I had heard the same thing, until I saw he was heading to Vaughan over the summer. Well, here was a little article I found on the situation, but you are right. I personally think it is great that top Canadian prospects have played stateside, it makes them that much more prepared for the NCAA.
