If he is closer to 6’6 then he projects as a shooting guard. Even so he needs to work on his guard skills. 6’7 would be tall for a shooting guard, but closer to average for a small forward.

does anyone think Andrew wiggins would be an absolute monster SG at the highest level? I realize a lot of people have him pegged as a SF because it is believed he will get taller and add significant muscle. I personally believe he is not actually 6-8, I think he is more around the 6-6 or 6-7 range. he has a monster wingspan now and he has a extreamly quick fist step, and an ever improving handle. even if he gets to be 6-8 or 6-9 I believe he will only max out at about 215. he could really have a major edge over SGs in the future. thoughts everyone?

That’s a good question. I will have to watch him more. Either at the 2 or 3 he will still have to refine his perimeter skills.

I think he is a hybrid in that he can play the two in certain lineups but is more suited at the small forward position. Like a Tracy McGrady or a Paul George type player. In a tall lineup he can play the two but in most lineups he will be a three

mcgrady was a big SG and he was dominant for a period of time. I just think physically wiggins is a little weak to compete with nba SF, and he is so quick for a guy his size, its amazing.

I’m curious, what makes you “personally believe” he’s not 6’8″?…were you standing next to him recently? Did you watch him walk through a standard sized doorway without having to duck? Do tell!

I just can’t wait to see him next year play in a system that allows him to show his game. Many of these high school players because “folk” heroes. I have heard so much about this young man and I can’t wait to see him start his journey.

It is said he measured at 6’7″ in shoes with a 6’11” wingspan at the Nike Hoop Summit. Those measurements obviously are good for either wing position in the NBA. I think he clearly has outstanding physical tools for either wing position in the NBA. What position he plays is more dependent on how he develops his game and what players he is surrounded with than on any physical limitations of his. His physical attributes are close to ideal for any NBA wing.

Wiggins can play the 2 or the 3. He has really improved his overall skill set. It trips me out to hear people say Jabari is a more skilled basketball player. People who say that has a) not seen wiggins play in a long time or b) never seen him play. Even the gap that used to exist in shooting between the two is significantly closer. Wiggins is the better athlete and player at this point.

Can’t wait to see this guy play.

If I were him I would look at going to Louisville. If Russ Smith comes back then you have him and Ware (it he can come back)
in the backcourt Witt Wiggins at 3 and Chane Behanan at power forward with Luke Hancock and Wayne Blackshear off the bench.
Wiggins can learn from Pitino and work on his defense.

He cant really shoot good enough to be a high level SG. i think SF is his best position.

On his player profile on here they have him at the same level as jabari parker in jumpshot with 8 and i know that’s false because parker shoots a lot better than wiggins does.

Wiggins reminds me of a more explosive, faster, quicker, more fluid version of Michael Kidd Gilchrist at this point. So I’m going small forward.

people just watch how he dunks and will be an amazing scorer..

but he is such a great rebounder and even shot-blocker for his size, kinda G-Wallace(or MKG if you like that) so I want him to be closer to the post

remember how he nearly locked down Julius Randle last summer TWICE while giving up like 45lbs (Julius measured 240lbs, and Wiggins only 195 last summer)

If he has a shorter teammate who is a starting caliber wing player, he’ll be the small forward. If he has a taller teammate who is a starting caliber wing player, he’ll be the shooting guard. The only difference between the two positions is size.

If the dude really is the next transcendent player that scouts and the media make him out to be, he doesn’t have to be stereotyped into a specific position. With a condor wingspan and that ridiculous bounce (44″ vert…jesus) it really doesn’t make a lick of difference if he’s 6’7″ or 6’8″. Clearly his combination of size, athleticism and skill make him a guy whose gonna face the basket, attack the rim, initiate offense, finish in transition and hold his own on the glass. If he develops NBA range as a shooter, you’re looking at a guy who can play all over the floor and also guard several positions if he commits to becoming a savvy defender. That aint a SF, a SG, whatever…its a mofuggin complete basketball player. Definitely curious to see how he looks in college, Shabazz was a complete disappointment this year given all the hype about his ability to dominate. This time last year cats were comparing him to Kobe, and saying his pessimistic comp was James Harden. now hes a fringe lottery pick.
