He’s destroying Texas inside, displaying an array of post moves as well as hitting jumpers, including a couple 3’s. I think he’s a lottery pick this year, even though he’s a senior. He looks like he could carve out a really nice career for himself as a stretch 4. He’s the best senior forward in the country right now, and is doing it against solid competition so far this year. What do you think?

He’s as good as anyone outside the top 6 or 7 guys.  He’s a big guy who can play the 4 and also some 5.  He should be a solid VALUE pick.

He reminds me of another senior prospect who was a nice value pick in David West. I doubt Payne will ever make multiple all-star team like West, but they had very similar offensive skill-sets when they were at thesame stages of their careers. West put up better stats in college because Xavier didn’t have nearly as much talent as Michigan State. He has good potential as a stretch four and can be at least as productive as the Morris twins are being IMO.

Imho West was stronger and was a better overall player, with best knowledge of the game and higher IQ. West also was starting to develop his jumper in his last year, but was mostly a back to the basket player, while Payne is a better outside shooter now and relies more on face up game than West did at the same age. Also Payne seems a better athlete.

Anyways, I’m one of his biggest supporters and I think that he can develop into a very nice role player because of his outside shot combined with length and athleticism.
