TONYDABOSS77ParticipantA scouting report was just posted for Jayson Tatum & his comparisons don’t match his report.
He’s 6’9 & highly SKILLED…he’s not tha freak athlete, but it’s not a weakness for him either. He can facilitate, has a mid range game, has a post game & probably tha best footwork of anybody in that class. He’s very crafty with his finishes around tha rim. He also takes a lot of tough shots, is thin & is inconsistent from 3.
Yet, his comps on here are Danny Granger & Shane Battier…Granger, when he was in his prime, was a 40% 3pt shooter who attempted 6 3’s per game & used his body to finish at tha cup. Battier is one of tha greatest role players ever. He’s really smart, a versatile defender & he never plays outside of himself. These comps don’t make sense.
He & Josh Jackson are my favorite prospects in this draft. They are going to flourish in tha NBA with tha emphasis on positionless ball. Guys that can play tha 2 & 3 for you or they could be your small 4. Its not often that you find guys with this combination of size, skill, IQ & athleticism. Tatum is in tha family of Durant, PG, Ingram & Rudy Gay…tall, long wings with unique skillsets. (With tha exception that he doesn’t have tha length of those guys; KD’s wingspan is 7’5, BI- 7’3, PG- 7’0, Gay- 7’3) If he applies himself he could be perennial allstar. If not, he’ll probably be like a guy like Gay who has all of tha talent, but never meets expectations. Me personally, I compare him to Steve Smith.
I look at Jackson like he’s clearly tha #1 guy. He reminds me so much of T-Mac his last year in Toronto…same size, same skill set. Ppl may not remember. but before he was a 30 point scorer, McGrady was viewed as a Pippen type player. McGrady had tha skill to score 30, he just didn’t have tha consistency or opportunity in Toronto. He guarded multiple spots & looked freakish. He got boards. He dunked everything & was flying in from tha weakside for deflections & blocks. He was always a really good passer, at times looking like tha 2nd best passing wing in tha league (behind LeBron). And Jackson looks just like him…but Jackson’s mentality seems to be different. He plays very militantly & is very cocky. He’s a show off. He loves attention. He’s also a killer on tha court. He wants tha challenge of being tha man & playing defense & hitting tha big shots. He has that Kobe Bryant vibe & I love it. I love Ben Simmons, I liked Wiggins, loved KD…but I think he’s tha most complete wing since LeBron. I haven’t been this exicited to see a guy play since Rudy Gay was a sophmore @ UCONN.

joe2324ParticipantI know its not a high school comparison because it came while in college, but wasn’t he supposed to be the next Larry Bird?

TripleDoubleScoutParticipantIm telling yall I think Bam Adebayo is a top 10 pick and will be a beast. In today’s NBA the most valuable trait a bigman can have is a high motor, and Bam has that motor. His skill though is also underrated. Promising midrange jumpshot, good timing on defense…

redone1ParticipantLove Bam as a sleeper top 5 pick.
In this era where teams are going smaller and smaller, I think Bam can play the Center at almost 6-10 with a pretty solid wingspan (I would guesstimate it is 7-1). Like you said he has a high motor, is a beast on the boards and has a suprisingly very good handle for a big man. He just needs to work on his shot and I think he has multiple time all-star written all over him.

circumlocution75ParticipantI can’t wait to see them in the NBA & the PG’s like Ntilikina or Ball or Fultz or Jackson or Fox & then there is Giles who could go #1 overall.
Absolutely Crazy Deep Draft in 2017 —– Next year will be here before we know it.

For_Never_EverParticipantI also wouldn’t touch Harry Giles. He had two or three knee surgeries already.

For_Never_EverParticipantI think wing spand can be overratted thing for evaluating players, but it’s really noticeable that it’s well below average for his height. Also his shoulders are pretty narrow. Two combination I don’t see often for elite SF’s. What I picked up on watching KU scrimmage on Youtube. Keep in mind he isn’t a true Freshmen he will be 20yrs old, and been playing against young comp.

redone1ParticipantJimmy Butler and Klay Thompson both have below avg wingspans and they are elite wing defenders. It certainly helps but you don’t have to have a good wingspan to be great on d.

For_Never_EverParticipantI agree. I think like Klay he will get out muscled depending on his match up. Klay is a very good 1/2 defender, but has his trouble against the elite Sf’s. He is all around very narrow looking guy with his lower body and upper.

theballerwayParticipantReminds me of TJ warren just slimmer. Medium range maestro, smooth but not overly athletic and wired to score. reminds me of old school small forwards like Jamal masburn

r377ParticipantWhy will the 2017 NBA draft be so good ? Because a few high schoolers managed to cram 20 fast break dunks into their 3 minute mix tape rather than the regular 19…..
12 months ago the past 2016 was suppose to have lots of stars…..
12 months before that, the 2015 draft was going to be “fully stacked”
12 months before that, the 2014 was going to be “fully loaded”
Every year its the same unwarranted hype about the next draft being so good based on not much more than a few mix tape dunks or someone scoring a dozen fast break points running 2 on 1’s and 3 on 2’s at the Mc Donalds all star game…
