Player of the Week:
Jylin Sellers, Providence Friars
Jylin Sellers earns Player of the Week honors after leading the Providence Friars to three straight victories with a dominant scoring stretch. He opened with 21 points and six rebounds in a road win at DePaul, shooting 9-of-13 from the field and 3-of-5 from three. He followed that with a 27-point explosion in a 94-84 win over Xavier, hitting 10-of-14 shots and 4-of-6 from deep. Sellers closed the week with another 27-point outing in a 79-76 road win at Creighton, shooting 11-of-18 overall and 5-of-8 from three. Across the three games, he scored 20+ each time and shot better than 60% from the field in every contest, carrying Providence offensively during a pivotal stretch in conference play.
Freshman of the Week:
Braylon Mullins, (Team Mascot)
Braylon Mullins earns Freshman of the Week recognition after delivering one of the most impressive individual performances of the week against the Creighton Blue Jays. In a 91-84 loss on February 18, Mullins poured in 25 points and grabbed six rebounds in 31 minutes, shooting 9-of-22 from the field and a scorching 6-of-11 from beyond the arc (54.5%), while going a perfect 1-of-1 at the line. He added a block and two steals, showcasing his two-way activity. Mullins’ shot-making and confidence from deep stood out against one of the conference’s top defensive teams, further solidifying his trajectory as a potential first-round draft prospect.
Who’s Hot?
St. John’s Red Storm
The St. John’s Red Storm continued their surge with two more victories, extending their winning streak to 13 games. They opened the week with a six-point road win over the Marquette Golden Eagles before delivering a dominant 29-point home win against the Creighton Blue Jays. In that statement performance, St. John’s held Creighton to just 52 points on 32% shooting and 27% from three, with no Blue Jay reaching double figures. The Red Storm’s defensive intensity and balance continue to separate them at the top of the conference.
Tre Carroll, Xavier Musketeers
Despite two losses, Tre Carroll was outstanding for the Xavier Musketeers. He erupted for 28 points and 10 rebounds in a three-point overtime loss to Villanova, shooting 11-of-14 from the field in 39 minutes. He followed with another strong outing to cap a week in which he consistently produced at an elite level, knocking down shots efficiently from both inside and beyond the arc. Carroll’s scoring punch and rebounding presence kept Xavier competitive throughout.
Who’s Not?
Marquette Golden Eagles
The Marquette Golden Eagles have fallen to the bottom of the Big East standings at 5-13 in conference play and just 10-19 overall. After a six-point home loss to the St. John’s Red Storm, Marquette has now dropped five of its last seven games and sits 11.5 games back in the league race. While they have been respectable at home (9-7), their 1-10 road record has defined their struggles. Offensively inconsistent and unable to string together stops, the Golden Eagles enter the final stretch last in the conference and searching for answers.
Top Five Big East Teams
1. UConn Huskies (17-2, 27-3 overall)
The Huskies sit alone at the top of the Big East at 17-2 with a league-best .895 conference winning percentage and an elite 27-3 overall record. They have been dominant at home (15-2) and strong on the road (9-1), currently riding a three-game winning streak. Despite recent competitive setbacks in ranked matchups, UConn’s consistency and balance keep them firmly in control of the conference race.
2. St. John’s Red Storm (16-2, 23-6 overall)
Just a half-game behind UConn, St. John’s continues its surge at 16-2 in conference play. The Red Storm have been nearly flawless at home (14-2) and impressive on the road (8-1), building momentum down the stretch. With only two league losses and strong overall positioning, they remain firmly in contention for the regular-season crown.
3. Villanova Wildcats (13-5, 22-7 overall)
Villanova holds third place at 13-5 in conference play and 22-7 overall. The Wildcats have been reliable at home (13-3) and solid on the road (8-3), though they enter the week off a loss. Their ability to protect home court and win away from it has solidified their standing in the top tier of the conference.
4. Seton Hall Pirates (9-9, 19-10 overall)
Seton Hall sits at .500 in league play (9-9) but remains competitive with a strong 12-4 home record. The Pirates have struggled to find consistency on the road (5-5) and enter on a one-game skid. Still, their overall body of work keeps them in fourth place heading into the final stretch.
5. Creighton Bluejays (8-11, 14-16 overall)
Creighton rounds out the top five at 8-11 in conference play. While the Bluejays have been solid at home (10-6), road struggles (3-8) and a three-game losing streak have limited their upward mobility. At 14-16 overall, they remain in the mix but will need a strong finish to build postseason momentum.
