Player of the Week:
Mac McClung, PG, Georgetown Hoyas
Sophomore point guard, Mac McClung from Georgetown certainly stood out this past week. He averaged 26.0 points per game in a 2-0 week for the Hoyas. He shot 54.5% (18-33) from the field as well as 52.9% (9-17) from beyond the arc. His seven assists against SMU was a career best and his 33 points against Oklahoma State was the second 30+ performance of his career.
McClung’s incredible week should certainly catch the eye of NBA scouts as he is considered to be a human highlight reel and one of the most talented point guards in college basketball.
Who’s Hot?
Butler Bulldogs, 10-1
Despite losing their first game against Baylor this past Tuesday, the Bulldogs bounced back Saturday in their matchup against Butler, winning the game in a 66-41 blowout against Southern University.
Sophomore forward, Bryce Golden and senior forward, Sean McDermott were the team’s leading scorers against the Jaguars. Golden scored 12 and grabbed 3 rebounds while McDermott scored 11 and grabbed 4 rebounds.
The Bulldogs are now 10-1 and remain at the top of the standings in the Big East.
DePaul Blue Demons
DePaul went .500 on the week as well, losing their first game against Buffalo. They were then able to bounce back like Butler, defeating UIC in an 86-65 blowout on Saturday.
Junior guard, Charlie Moore led the way, scoring 26 points along with a rebound and 5 assists. Junior forward, Paul Reed had a solid outing as well, scoring 16 points with 12 rebounds and 4 assists.
The Blue Demons are now 10-1 and right on Butler’s tail for first in the conference.
Who’s Not?
Providence Friars, 5-5
The Friars have not played yet this week but will face the Stony Brook Seawolves at home Saturday night.
The Friars remain .500 and are still sitting at the bottom of the standings in the conference.
Seton Hall Pirates, 6-4
It was a rough week for the Pirates as they lost both of their matchups by double digits. They lost Sunday against Iowa State 76-66 and Saturday against Rutgers 68-48.
The Pirates are now 6-4 and sitting in second to last place in the conference.
