Lonzo Ball 6’5 PG Chino Hills 2016 (UCLA)
Chino Hills remains unbeaten with a 30-0 record. Lonzo Ball posted a triple double in the win over Inglewood with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and ten assists. Also continuing his dominance against Mater Dei with 25 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists, and seven steals while nearly doubling their score 102-54. Ball’s sensational season has put him in the top five finalists for the Naismith Trophy High School Players of the Year.

Apple Valley
Apple Valley finishes 25-1 while their two star guards post impressive stats all season long. Gary Trent Jr was one point shy of having half of Apple Valley’s total points against Henry Sibley. Along with his 43 points, Trent grabbed six rebounds and passed out four assists in the win. Tre Jones finished with 11 points, six rebounds, and 11 assists. The final game against Rosemount, Trent would finish with 21 points while Jones contributed with nine points, six rebounds, and 12 assists.
Athlete Institute
Athlete Institute has had their ups and downs in their long and competitive schedule, also with Matur Maker being injured for a number of games. They are currently competing in the OSBA tournament, recently beating The Hill Academy in the semifinals 85-79. The Maker brothers led the way; Thon posting 21 points and 21 rebounds and Matur with 17 points and 15 rebounds.
Malik Monk 6’3 – Bentonville 2016 (Kentucky)
Monk dropped 28 points in the 20 point win over Heritage. In his follow up performance against Fayetteville, Bentonville was unable to get revenge from their last meeting losing 60-55, but Monk scored 41 points in the two point loss to close out the regular season.
Hamidou Diallo 6’5 – Putnam Science Academy 2017
Putnam Science Academy put together a team effort to finish the season strong and Diallo put together an impressive set of games. Diallo scored 38 points to beat Coastal Academy, also contributing with eight rebounds, six assists, and three steals. In the win against Navy Prep, he scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds. To close out the week, he scored 20 points in the one point win over Commonwealth Academy.
LiAngelo Ball 6’5 – Chino Hills 2017 (UCLA)
In addition to his brother’s statistics and Chino Hills’ successful season, LiAngelo Ball contributed big as a scorer. Ball finished with 40 points to beat Inglewood and 35 points to beat Mater Dei. LiAngelo doesn’t get the same praise as his brothers but has been a big piece to Chino Hills’ undefeated season.
Cold
Kenneth Nwuba 6’9 – Oak Hill Academy 2018
I’m nitpicking a bit saying Nwuba had a cold performance because he’s simply a young gifted athlete surrounded by some of the nation’s top talent and his time hasn’t come yet. Oak Hill went 2-0 on the week and Nwuba finished with four points in 13 minutes of play in the win over Deeper Life. Nwuba is considered one of the top players of his class playing in his first season with Oak Hill after playing his freshman year at Arlington Country Day. We can expect his minutes and role to increase next year with big men Khadim Sy and Rodney Miller graduating.

Saul Phiri 6’4 – Putnam Science Academy 2016 (LaSalle)
Phiri had a great week helping Putnam Science Academy to three wins to close out the regular season. Phiri’s first game of the week consists of 13 points, seven rebounds, and five assists to beat Coastal Academy. Following up with nearly a triple double to beat Navy Prep with 25 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists. Phiri’s final game of the week came against Commonwealth Academy, finishing with 14 points and five rebounds.
Top 5 Shot Blockers
1. Ikechuckwu Obiagu 7’0 – Greenforest Christian Academy 2017
Obiagu has jumped up the board, and while he still has a way to go in other aspects of his game, shot blocking is really the only area he truly excels in at this point. He stands at 7’0 and possesses a 7’3.5 wingspan. Obiagu blocked seven shots at Jordan Brand Classic International Game. A few months later at the Nike Global Challenge he led all players with 4.3 blocks per game. Obiagu’s top performance of the year consists of blocking 20 shots in the win over Lady of Mercy Catholic.
2. Zach Brown 7’1 – Miami Beach 2017 (Connecticut)
Brown nearly averaged a triple double as a sophomore with 18.4 points, 17 rebounds, and nine blocks per game. His shot blocking and altering gives him great potential as a defensive anchor at the highest level. Brown averaged 2.5 blocks per game at the Nike Global Challenge this past summer, he could have had more if he stayed out of foul trouble.
3. Jethro Tshisumpa 6’9 – Mountain Mission School 2016 (Arizona State)
After having a great summer, Tshisumpa earned national recognition. The Arizona State commit fearlessly protects the rim. Tshisumpa played with Urban DFW on the adidas Gauntlet where he had a few games with at least five blocks. Although still raw on offense, he is likely to make a defensive impact from day one when he gets to college.
4. Mohamed Bamba 6’11 – Westtown School 2017
With an astonishing 9’5 standing reach and 7’8 wingspan, Bamba has a rare combination of length and athleticism. Without lacking fluidity and coordination, Bamba has tremendous potential on the offensive side as well. Earlier in the season Bamba had ten blocks to beat Udoka Azubuike and Potter’s House Christian Academy. Another notable performance was against Tacoma Academy; recording 19 points, 13 rebounds, and 14 blocks playing less than half of the game.
5. Deandre Ayton 7’0 – Hillcrest Academy 2017
Ayton has the ability to do it all on both sides of the floor. Shot blocking is one of the many things he can do well. His timing, length, and athleticism are elite. He knows when to leave his feet and when to stay down. Ayton left Balboa City earlier in the year, where he averaged 21.1 points, 16 rebounds, and 3.8 blocks per game last season. Since arriving at Hillcrest Academy, his biggest game came against Sunrise Christian Academy posting 52 points, 33 rebounds, and ten blocks.
