I think they have a bunch of interesting players and possible prospects…expect a Sweet 16 team this year, who could go higher if they defend. That 09 class they just had could be something special, even when Favors leaves after this season. Here’s what I saw:

Derrick Favors (Freshman) was a beast!! He’s scary right now, and I’ll go on record as to saying he will put up Michael Beasley/Kevin Durant esque numbers this year. He’s not especially polished right now, but he is so dominant physically that he’s still a great scorer. He also has NBA range on his jumper, a nice tool for a player that’s not very polished huh?

Gani Lawal (Jr.) is a prefect high motor player, and he’s gotten stronger. He’s never going to be a scorer in the NBA, but in college 15 ppg is not out of the question. He’s already a good rebounder and defender, able to defend the face-up’s and probably most back-to-basket bigs. Him and Favors should dominate the glass.

Iman Shumpert (Soph.) is a good player. He’s a true combo guard and I think he’s very good as a scorer. He’s not real quick or explosive, but he’s a decent leaper though. He’s a pick pocket on D, but he’s not much of a on-ball player yet. He should have a big year though..watch out for him in 2011.

Mfon Udofia (Freshman) is solid and smooth. He’s not a very high upside guy, but he’s very good as of right now and is similar to Former Tech player Jarrett Jack in that he’s strong, and not a freak athlete, but he’s good enough. And he’s a jack-of-all-trades master of none. Expect him to be a good/great 4-year player and possible NBA player down the line.

Mo Miller (Senior) is not very good. I mean, he’s alright, but he’s not a good starter in the ACC. I think Udofia will take his job.

Glen Rice Jr. (Freshman) is a good athlete, but he’s not the shooter his dad is. He’ll probably be OK this year, but he’ll need to improve his handle and shooting to be a truly good prospect.

Brian Oliver (Freshman) and Lance Storrs (Jr.) will be the team’s shooters. Both aren’t quite good at anything else though.

Favors looks great to me…I figured he would be in a class a little below the Durant/Beasley level in college….hearing that he has a NBA jumper is good to hear, i thought that was one part of his game he didnt have….I will go on record saying that him and Gani Lawai make up the best frontcourt in college basketball

I can agree with that definitely. They looked like the Great Wall against the other players they went up against.

      Thanks Iguodala!

Did Lawal and Favors face off against each other at all?

They faced off in the big man drills just before the the scrimmage, but they weren’t defending that intense. It was just a catch, make a basic move, and finish type drill.

What do you mean thought by NBA range? NBA three point range? I doubt that. Or NBA midrange game?

Yea I meant NBA 3 point range. It’s not truly consistent, but in the scrimmage he made a few deep 3-pointers.

sometimes I sit and reminisce about those days
sleeping on the couch while my drunken roomies would stumble into the room
    and wake me up

Amare with more rebounding and defensive skills? That’s like the ultimate 4 man. I can’t WAIT for college basketball to start!

I think Oliver might surprise you. He’s a talented defender and rebounder for his size.

It’s crazy to even have a debate on Ed Davis and Derrick Favors because it’s clear even from a guy who has 10/20 vision that Favors is a dominating specimen…

yeah i think he will be pretty good..i have to wait to say hes a better rebounder or defender then amare till he gets to the nba..beasley was a better rebounder and score then amare when he was in college …im just not comfortable saying a college guy or a guy who hasnt yet played in college is gonna be better then a nba allstar..i do think he will dominate in college though

Tech had a guy named Hosley to I believe….long, athletic guy. Think Robert Dozier, that’s the type of player he is.

Thanks for the updates. Just wondering though but is that describition of Shumpert from how he played last year? He sat out the scrimmage with an injury. Cant wait to see how the team does tommorrow.
