magic look great on the offensive end. Tons of weapons. Andersen, Reddick, JWill, Barnes, and Bass all look good. When Vince and Rashardcome back, this team can defenitely compete for the title. I still think the lakers and celtics will meet in the finals, but if there was one team that could mess that up it is Orlando. I might even put Orlando ahead of boston once i see what they look like with their whole roster.

Yea, I like Orlando to make it to the Finals again. They can put alot of lineups out there and it helps to have a dominating force like Howard.

im telling yall ryan anderson is the real deal. the dude dont miss. man my magic have a deep bench. and i aint gon lie i use to hate reddick. but he has come from a long way on his defense, his shot looks like its coming back, jameer making plays plus when we need him to score he will score. when everyone is heatlhy and sweet lew comes back . we gonna make it to the ecf.

JJ Redick but like u said he has come a long way, he’s better at putting the ball on the floor and creating for others, but JJ will never be good at the defensive end, but if he can stroke it like that (No Homo) he will be a decent player.

I Still hate both him and Rashard. On another note Ryan anderson has much more potenial than Rashard. He’s only 21, like stan said he still doesnt know how great he could be.

Before I get into making my points, let me preface them by stating it’s far too early to draw any significant conclusions about Orlando. However, enough has happened to emphasize something I say all the time.

1. Give young players time to develop, don’t give up on them if they aren’t stars their rookie year.
2. I don’t care who the player is, he needs to know the coach has confidence in him.

Let’s start with Ryan Anderson who was the number one draft choice of the Nets last year and had a terrible rookie season. The Nets immediately gave up on him and made him a throw away in the Vince Carter deal. Do you think the Nets would do it differently if they had another opportunity?

JJ Redick is the perfect example of a guy who needs to play regularly so he doesn’t have to worry about coming out of the game if he misses his first 2 or 3 shots. I’ve repeatedly said on this website that JJ Redick is a bonafide NBA player who just needs an opportunity to play every night and he would eventually prove himself. For reasons unknown to me, he was never given that opportunity. His first two years were spent glued to the bench. And last season he would play one game and ride the bench the next game. It’s hard to keep your confidence under those conditions.

I know a lot of guys don’t like Redick and claim he isn’t an NBA caliber player. However, when he played at Duke, he was always guarded by the best defensive player and almost nobody could slow him down or stop him. Redick and Curry were the best 3 point shooters I ever saw in the college game. I happen to think that both of them are more than just three point shooters. In fact, Redick is an outstanding passer.

i never liked reddick but hes shown to have gotten better every year..and i dont agree with the posters comment about him never being a good defender..hes actually a pretty good defender right now and gets better every year..his defense in the playoffs last year was pretty damn good also

You don’t see too many people admit they were wrong and/or praise a player they don’t like. I also happen to agree with you, his defensive skills were vastly underrated. Of course we know that half of defense is making the effort and that’s what we’re seeing from Redick.

As I mentioned earlier, if Van Gundy will just play Redick regularly every night, even when he’s missing his shots, he will be a very productive player. I simply don’t understand why Van Gundy was so inconsistent with the minutes he doled out to the guy last year. One game he would play 24 minutes and the next night he would ride the bench or be lucky to get in the game for 4 minutes. Nobody can perform under those conditions.

when proven wrong i will admit it..i actually like watching reddick now because of how hard he plays defense…i was kinda biased when he was at duke because im not a fan of duke. but i think alot of people just assumed that he wasnt a good defender because hes a shorter then normal not athletic white shooting guard. he never shown he was a worst defender then most rookies when he first came into the leauge

watching reddick, he looks so much more confident off the dribble then i thought he ever would. Lots of great shooters who are not elite athletes don’t like putting the ball on the floor, but reddick really looks comfortable pushing it in transition or penetrating. He will probably be a career backup, but a solid contibutor for sure.

LLperez22, we apparently agree on Redick, but I would like to reiterate my points from earlier in this thread reference Ryan Anderson and JJ Redick.

rtbt, agreed. When you evaluate young players, you have to take into consideration what kind of freedom they are given and how they can develop with more minutes. Reddick is proof of that and I actually thought Andersen flew under the radar last season as a rookie. I was surprised to see he was included in the carter trade becasue truth is that both andersen and carter could end up better then anything the magic gave up in that trade.

not sure about the little details, but they wanted out of Carter’s contract becuase they were rebuliding and getting Lee, Alston, and Battie was apparently good enough in their minds. The Nets actually have the most salary space in the entire league going into next summer, and that’s with lopez and harris both locked up. They are in a great spot for the future and that’s probably what they were looking for more then even value for the trade. i was just surprised they threw andersen in.

I said it b4 the season started..Some laughed at me…When I stated that New Jersey made a mistake adding Anderson in the Carter trade..I also said Anderson will be a player to keep an eye on……

I know the Nets received the contract of Courtney Lee, who is a nice player, and they gave up both Vince Carter and Ryan Anderson. What else did they receive to give up so much in return for apparently so little? I know there must have been more to the trade.

Tony Battie and Rafer Alston? They are mediocre bench players. It sounds as if Thorn was making a move to dump salaries and give up players they need in return for that financial bump. In my opinion, that usually turns out to be a mistake.

It looks as if Orlando will be smiling all the way to the NBA finals while the Nets have another poor or terrible season.
