Okay the Lakers may have packed in a few games at points during the season but let’s not lump them in with the 76ers and the Knicks who shut down a superstar right after he played extensive minutes in the all star game, traded away Tyson Chandler for next to nothing and dumped Jr Smith and Shumpert. The Lakers have not, though I wish they did tank to the level of those other trash franchises.
If a certain trade years ago doesn’t get vetoed the Lakers have Chris Paul and Dwight Howard right now and are routinely a top 4 team in the west. I remember people saying at the time that veto would send the Lakers back 5 or 6 years and I had a hard time understanding why. Well now I do and its obvious, that kind of talent is hard to acquire, but to say the Lakers are tanking or to lump them in with those routinely bad franchises is absurd. They are just a bad team, there is a difference. There is this notion that the 76ers and Knicks are these great franchises and its only a matter of time before they are restored back to glory and its completely false. Both have been garbage for the better part of 30 years now? What one finals appearance for the Knicks in that time span? A couple 2nd round teams from the 76ers?
Please. I wish the Lakers would have tanked, but they didn’t, and I am still willing to bet they turn it around before these notoriously overrated franchises.
