If 2009 draft were redone now

It still is beyond me how DeJuan Blair fell to where he did and he’s having a great preseason. However, I believe this could not have worked about better for Blair as he has gone to a team that he will have very little trouble adjusting to the style of play. San Antonio seems to embrace players like DeJuan and I expect big things from him this year.

Also, Jrue Holiday may have been a little overhyped. Got an opportunity to go to the game against the Wizards lastnight and it’s going to be a few years before this kid really starts to develop. When inserted into the game he seemed very rattled and it took him a good 2 minutes to finally settle in. An inconsistent jump shot will keep him from getting time although he def. has some above average ability on the defensive end as he was assigned to guard Mike James and did have any trouble stopping penetration.

I think mine would be something like this:

1.B.Griffin-1st pick and nothing like a bust
2.T.Evans-smells future all-star
3.B.Jennings-upside even better than Evans’ and looks nba ready more than i thought
4.D.Blair-he is crazy in this preseason..18min 14ppg8rpg?!!
5.J.Harden
6.J.Flynn
7.D.DeRozan-similar with Jennings
8.J.Teague-suprising me
9.S.Curry
10.J.Hill-I think he will be good enough

#1 Clippers- Blake Griffin- easy enough

#2 Grizzlies- Evans- Conley isnt the answer, they already have Gasol at Center so they didnt need Thabeet. Take the local college guy and pair him up with Mayo and in 2-3yrs you will have 40pts and 12 assists minimum out of your starting backcourt

#3 Thunder- Thabeet, not thrilled with my choice hear, I’m not a Harden fan so Thabeet is the lesser of two evils. They are still a year or two away from the playoff in the loaded Western Conference it gives them/and Thabeet time to further develop

#4 Kings- Jennings, this guy has been outstanding. I think him and Kevin Martin would be outstanding together running the break. It looks like they’ve commited to running so far in the preseason and he’s the best of the of group when it comes to pushing the ball

#5/6 T’Wolves- Harden and Flynn would make a great backcourt. The T-Wolves lack a presence at the 2-guard and Harden would provide a strong scoring presence with decent size. FLynn is a great team leader who does a little bit of everything

#7 Warriors- I wouldnt wish it on anyone to be drafted by the mess that has become the Golden State Warriors. ITs way to high but they need someone like D’Juan blair who brings toughness and leadership. A more realistic option this high would be JOrdan Hill I guess

#8 Knicks- Curry has strugged a bit, but this system would emphasize everything he does well and would bring out the best in him

#9 Raptors- DeRozan, I think he fits a need for them at 2 guard. this is a high risk/high reward pick though. But i think you are getting a guy has the potential to be a superstar

#10 Bucks- Hill/Blair, whichever Golden State decides against I would take here

conley is the perfect answer onm a team of scorers…plus when he was a full time starter he average 14 and 7..evans woul dbe a horrible pick for them since hes a pg who looks for his shot first and turns the ball over alot( so far)..you already have gay and may and zach all capable of scoring 20 so do you really need another scorer or a guy whos gonna distribute and help get the scorers in the best position to score..plus he plas pretty good defense

By watching some of the games in the preseason this draft looks pretty good. I know it’s only the preseason, but some players look like future all-stars.

Some that I think will become good NBA players are:
-Tyreke Evans
-Blake Griffin
-Jonny Flynn
-DeJuan Blair
-Sam Young
-Brandon Jennings
even some are at least showing promising signs like:
Jonas Jerebko
Stephen Curry- a good back up pg
Jrue Holiday- much better than what people expected, I think he’ll do fine
Jeff Teague

The unfortunate thing though is that most will not get adequate playing time to show how good they can be.

Lol I promise I almost posted this same topic earlier, but decided not to because it’s too early and the regular season hasn’t even started yet.

I think Blair is the most obvious player who’s draft position should be different. In my opinion, he should’ve been a late lottery to mid-first round pick. He’s played like a top five pick during summer league and the pre-season, but I don’t know if I could take him that high considering his knee issues. We really just don’t know how long he’ll be able to play at a high level. For a team drafting late in the lottery looking to make the playoffs by adding a great piece, I think he’d have been the perfect piece. I was EXTREMELY disappointed when the Pacers, my hometown squad, didn’t draft him with the 13th pick.

He would have been the perfect choice at 13. He brings much more to the table than Hansborough.

Tell me about it. I think he would’ve been a perfect fit with the Pacers at 13. We needed a tough four man… Bird just picked the wrong guy.

yeah this is a pretty gopod draft and yeah if you give tghe players more time they will probably put up better stats but you gotta look at the big picture..some of them would put up better stats then they would from playing less time but they will also make more mistakes some of which will cause a team to lose a close game..alot of fans dont seem to look at it that way like when eric snow started so many years or other players who arent puttin gup great stats..they stay in because they dont make many mistakes esspecially in crunch time that will cause the team to lose..alot more rookies would play more if they made less mistakes…some play alot because the team has no other real choice and those are the ones that usually are losing…of course there are the special rookies that get alot of time and it helps the team win

and we dont know which ones need to get it untill we see what they can do in the regular season against regular starters going hard ..every year some rookies look like stars in the preseason then when they are playing against regular starters they cant seem to do there thing

Thabeet seems to be a player most people are doubting, but we have to rememeber… He hasn’t even been playing organized basketball for that long. It also takes big men longer to develop, especially in the NBA. You have to be patient with him. Those of you who are ready to write him off after one season are silly.

I watched a piece on NBATV about Steve Nash’s charity soccer game, in which Thabeet participated, and he was impressed with the way Thabeet moved. He was impressed with Thabeet’s footwork and coordination.

yeah i saw that documentary..i wasnt too suprised because i used to talk about how quick he seemed for a player his hight while playing at uconn…some fans have never really watched him play and just asummed he was stiff or listend to other people who havent watched him play say hes stiff and just regurgitated what they said

Yeah, a summer league and pre-season isn’t enough to cast out potential in favor of a guy who played better in July-October. I still think Thabeet would be the #2 pick. Everyone knew his weaknesses going into the draft, and I would be shocked if the Grizzlies front office thought Thabeet would be tearing it up by now, he has shown promise this far, but he was a project, is a project, and will take some time to develop.

I think it is too early, You can really tell how good a draft is really until the third season but you need a least a season to kind of see who makes the biggest improvements. Some player were drafted on potential and some will take 3 year and then they become the next Kobe or T Mac and some of yall are getting hype about guys that can play right now but dont have any kind of upside. Blair is looking good but he will have to do this against forwards in the regular season before I think he is another Boozer. Boozer also went in the 2nd round but became an all star.

1.L.A. Clippers- Blake Griffin(duh)
2.Memphis Grizzles- Hasheem Thabeet (Thabeet and Gasol will be very good on defense but the addition of Thabeet might even help Gasol on offense because Marc won’t be getting posted up on by the #1 big on the opposing team, so Gasol should improve offensivly and get more minutes)
3.O.C. Thunder- Tyreke Evans(Evans could have been a major upgrade for that line up with Westbrook dishing it out and having a SG like Evans that can handle the ball that would have made the future of this team even more flexable)
4. Sacramento Kings- Brandon Jennings(3-5 years from now when we look about at this draft I think he will be the one everyone says is the best point gaurd to come out of this draft, even though Evans is going to play point in the pros which is obserd)
5. Minnesota Timberwolves- Stephen Curry(Kid could play no matter how tall/short he is)
6. Minnesota Timberwolves- DeMar DeRozan(Next coming of Vince Carter, long and can dunk like its nobodys business)
7. G.S. Warriors- Earl Clark(Long, versitile, can shoot, I’m surprise Nelson wasn’t begging for this guy hes perfect for them)
8. N.Y. Knicks- James Harden(Dude can light it up fast, can’t shoot to well yet but give him time)
9. Toronto Raptors-Gerald Henderson (Can do alot of good things on the floor, Can also do alot of bad things also but hes a little more complete than DeRozan although DeRozan could be amazing)
10.Milwaukee Bucks-Tyler Hansbrough(All Andrew Bogut needs is another big man buddy, Tyler plays intense and that would’ve made life alot easier for Bogut)
11.N.J. Nets-Terrence Williams(Another solid player to put in that lineup with Harris and Lopez, Williams does alot of little things to keep a team in the game)
12.Charlotte Bobcats-Jordan Hill(Fill up a big man spot now that Emeka is gone)
13.Indiana Pacers-Jonny Flynn(I don’t trust T.J. Ford much he gets injured every year I love watching him play but thats the problem I never see him play)
14. Phoenix Suns-Jrue Holiday(Under Steve Nash’s wing anything would have been possible for this kid)
I left out Rubio…enough said

also dont think evans works with a westbrook back court..2 guys who arent good shooters just don work in the nba..maybe in college
