“George Hill has been the most exciting part of training camp thus far. He has really welcomed the responsibility we’ve given him to be the backup point; to not only play defense, but to be explosive offensively and show additional leadership at the point. He’s doing all those things. The summertime really helped him, and he has been the most impressive of anybody in camp to this point.”
    – Coach Popovich

A lot of you may not know of him since he played college ball under the radar at IUPUI. He actually committed to Florida, but decided to stay close to home because his grandfather was sick and eventually passed away. When the Spurs drafted him with the 26th pick, I became even more of a believer in their ability to scout because I thought he was one of the best players in the country.

I know George personally. I want to say it now… He’s a future star in the making and will be one of the best backup point guards in the league this season. His teammates have dubbed him “Coach Pop’s favorite player” and Coach Popovich himself has said he likes Hill a lot better than he liked Tony Parker at the same age, so he’s not as hard on him as he was on Parker.

The experience Hill has gained from being coached by Coach Popovich, playing behind Parker and being in a championship atmosphere has been priceless. He won’t be a starter anytime soon, but when he gets his opportunity… Watch out. You heard it here first.

he’s really scary option in the backcourt especially considering
that as a backup he’ll be going up against other backups
and Mr. Hill is definitely better than a majority of said backups.

He’s an athletic player whose developing his offensive game. He’s more of a scoring/slashing PG in the Tony Parker mold, but he’s already a good defender. I like him and think he’ll eventually be starter caliber with more polish.

His wingspan is Rondo-ish at 6′ 9″… I think he can be a lockdown defender and wreak havoc in the passing lanes.
