I’m curious where you guys stood on what the grizz should have done with the number 2 pick last June. What were you guys thinking before the draft, be honest. And now almost 4 months later with summer league and pre-season, what do you think they should have done? Have you changed your mind? Like I said, be honest. And don’t say trade the pick, becuase that is a cop out.

    I’ll go first.

prior to the draft, I was thinking they should go with Jordan Hill. After Griffin, I really thought it was a crap shoot from 2-10 in the lottery. Hill was a face the basket offensive minded pf who could compliment Gasol and the young guys around the team.

Now, having watched summer league and pre-season, I think they should have gone with Tyreke Evans. Watching him play, I know he has a lot of work to do in all areas, but I’m sold on what this guy can do. Great ball handler good one on one skills, and can become an all-star in the future. Him and Mayo could have figured out who would play the pg and sg and they can both defend well.

I ssaid before the draft I thought they should have drafted Tyreke Evans. I still kinda think like that but the Iverson FA pick they dont need him as much. If I was going to redo it I would trade and get a veteran and if I cant trade I would draft Tyreke. But I dont like the Thabeet pick esspeacily since the already have Marc Gasol.

i think that would have been a very bad pick..since we are judging on what we’ve seen so far..evans has shown hes more of a shooting guard that cant really shoot but can score. the grizz already have to guys looking to score. and evans has shown (so fa)..that if hes a pg that hes not a very good one..asist to turnover ration is horrible and hant shown the knack to create offense for others, set others up

Why would they take a mayo clone? He needs the ball to be effective just like mayo and just like gay. If there ever would have been a messed up team it would have been that one

i think they should have traded down and picked up hill, because power forward was their only weak point.

quincey, I watched Tyreke vs the lakers and I know he has a lot of work to do. He shot 6-18 in that game. But he can get almost any shot he wants. HIs jumper is ugly, but he can pull up and shoot over the defender before they can react. His ball handling is good, he was looking for his teammates. His size and athleticism are all good. He finished with like 16-9-9 in that game. I know it’s just preseason, but i watched some of his summer league and work outs as well. That dude can be very impressive. I think he will be a lot better then Larry Hughes.

And as for him and Mayo, I always thought Mayo would make for a better pg in the nba, either way, i think they could have complimented each other. So who would you have gone with?

Tyreke and mayo are not nearly as selfish as you guys seem to think.

    Heres the deal

there are only 2 concieveable scenarios

    1) You get Flynn or Jennings without hesitation, if you don’t like Conley at the 1 for the future.
    2) You draft a big since positions 2 and 3 are set, you now have to draft outside the lottery at the #2 pick, which mean’s you would take someone like Daye or Blair or Hill which is a MaJoR letdown at the #2 spot

They should have drafted Ricky Rubio and let him play overseas for two years.

Considering all the picks that the grizzlies made and also the pick up or AI and Randolph. Thabeet is a good long term investment. They pick up some solid guys in Young and Carrol. After looking at their team and who was available, I can understand why they went with thabeet. I would have traded out of this draft and stocked for next draft but I think Thabeet will be good after 3 years or so and if you look at college, there are not that many strong defensive Centers coming out. Also most positions outside of center you can get good young talent. You have a bunch of guys who were not drafted or cut for whatever reason from the 1, 2, and 3 spot go overseas and then come back solid NBA players. With Gasol and Randolph, they can wait on Thabeet. I think he will at least be a Dalembert type or maybe a Roy Hibbet type so that is not bad for the Grizzlies who are pretty set at most of their position and are only terrible because they are young and mistake prone.

1st option was Rubio but he balked at playing in Memphis.

Maybe they should’ve traded down and taken Jennings.
They have Arthur, Gasol, Randolph and Haddadi as bigs already.
