A lot of people on this site say Kobe is no longer an elite defender and give him no credit for his defensive abilities. The GM’s of the NBA disagree lol.

    3. Ron Artest, L.A. Lakers 20.7%
    4. Rajon Rondo, Boston 6.9%
    Also receiving votes:
Trevor Ariza, Houston; Dahntay Jones, Indiana; Luc Mbah a Moute, Milwaukee; John Salmons, Chicago
    – Last year: Bruce Bowen 44.4%

Who is the best on-the-ball defender in the NBA?

    1. Rajon Rondo, Boston 25.0%
    3. Ron Artest, L.A. Lakers 17.9%

Best perimeter defender is Battier and on the ball I agree is Rondo. Well to me at least.

If Kobe can focus on defense it is probably top 3, yall forget now only did he has to defend but he had to be the best offensive weapon most of the time. all Battier does is defense and he is limited athletically

When Kobe locks in, he is the best defender in the game. But he has been playing rover reading the lanes and picking off passes more then ever now. He is also one of the best at telling teammates where to go. The GM’s know what they are talking about. Just look at how he got after it in the olympics.

Yea Kobe is the best when he tries to lock down, but he doesn’t enough for me to say he’s the best defender in the NBA. When the Lakers went on that 3 peat, he always guarded the quickest and most explosive offensive weapon on the other team. And yea him and D-Wade played really good D in the Olympics so he can be but he doesn’t need to waste that energy..

No…Kobe was never really an “Elite” defender…but I agree he was pretty darn good and underrated…although at first I didn’t take so. Battier is the best no matter what you say, he isn’t the quickest, strongest, but he is the smartest or one of the smartest. He uses that and uses it well. I’m glad he’s the Heart of the Houston Rockets. A class act.

he was never an elite defender but still under rated?

for all you 13 year olds out there there is this thing called nba all defensive first team.

Kobe Bryant has been on it 7 times.

“No…Kobe was never really an “Elite” defender”

the fact that you can write that is sooooo beyond me. you might not have watched his games in his early stages of his career but you cant go around making comments like that..

although i do believe kobe does not defend on the same level as he used to i still think he can hang with the elite, but it doesnt really matter cause nobody can guard him, and yes i’ll agree battier is the best defender on the perimeter today..

Kobe himself said recently that he feels refreshed and in the best shape of his recent years. I wouldn’t expect a drop off on D or Offense this season. I can post the link later, but I’m on my phone right now. Kobe, love him or hate him is the best player of his era and I think he is an elite defender now, although not early in his career, he can still get it done.

Where is lebron on that list, i am pretty sure he could lock down any wingman in the league if he wasnt concentrating on carrying his team on offense

Lebron could probably lock down almost anyone regardless of position if focused, with his size, length and strength.
