Sum up their careers. How good could they have been? How good were they once?

The crazy thing in both these cases is how fast they fell off. They both went from perennial all-star to scrub in like 2 years.

no, both went from all star game starters, to scrubs in 2 years, Marbury is just totally out of it right now, and Steve Francis I beieve could still ball, if given the chance he can contribute easily, and he is still fairly young isn’t he?

either of them because of their attitude, I was very excited to see stevie play for the vancover grizzlies, as a rookie he refused to play for them. After that I never gained his respect again, I actually got thrown out of the delta center for making fun of him so bad. Marbury well marbury, was the biggest ball hog I have seen. maybe i’ll watch him play for the utah flash this season.lol

They were so good. Both were all-stars, flashy, and had cool nicknames(Franchise and Starbury). But the way they just faded away is just so sad. They had so much talent but thier attitude made situations alot worse. I really feel bad for both of them.

mikenike, how so? I said they were perennial all-stars which means they were consistently making the all star game year after year, which they were.

A perennial plant or perennial (Latin per, “through”, annus, “year”) is a plant that lives for more than two years.[1] When used by gardeners or horticulturalists, this term applies specifically to perennial herbaceous plants. Scientifically, woody plants like shrubs and trees are also perennial in their habit.

    So they were plant all-stars?

“perennial” means year after year. In the terms of a plant being a “perennial”, that means it will blossom year after year. Perennial can also be used to describe anything that occurs year after year. It is not plant specific. Therefore a “perennial” all-star is someone who makes the all-star team year after year.

Well when you become a teacher, remember to tell your students, perennial is a plant and mikenike taught me that.

I went to Sacramento State for 3 years. Then I started partying and got a job in construction and dropped out. Now I’m going to a comunity college in sothern cal, the same cc that produced guys like rafer alston and cedric ceballos, while my transfer process to Cal St Channel Islands is going through. But yes mikenike, I will keep the education that you continue to give me in mind.

I dont even remember Steve Francsis getting bad. He just was one day. It was crazy. Marbury faded infront of the world when he wouldnt play for D’Antoni, in a system that would fit him and cause him to excel. He refused to come off the bench and be a big part of the team. Then, he was ok with coming off the bench and barely playing for a team that didnt even win a championship. They didnt even play for the conference championship. Then everyone the internet thing. Sad sad sad. Both could have been great score first PGs like Iverson. Not the way he was but kind of like that.

Steve Francis and Stephon Marbury burned out so fast… They were, for awhile, the toasts of the league and brought exciting plays that rarely seen among point guards… Stephon didn’t put it together as he got older and Stevie was too-oft-injured to regain his old exciting form… The what-could-have-beens and expectations are slowly dying on them and I hope guys like Russell Westbrook and Derrick Rose would pan out way better than these two guys did because they are the two PG’s that may resemble both aging players’ games in a way…

it still surprises me that Marbury only made 2 All-Star games in his career. The guy had 7 seasons where he averaged over 20 ppg and 8 apg (granted in one of those seasons he missed half the games) and he only makes a pair of all star appearances…weird.

IT’S SAD How they faded so fast..BOTH could help nba teams right now..IVERSON WAS ALMOST IN THAT GROUP..but he has had a more heralded career then those 2..I believe Sprewell can help a team right now..BUT I DOUBT we’ll see him play in the league again..THERE ARE alot of things that go on in PRACTICE and in players personal lives..that fans or even the MEDIA never HEARS ABOUT…BUT OTHER PLAYERS TELL OTHER PLAYERS and coaches hear about it..and when these guys join their teams..the coaches won’t hesitate to bench them or get rid of them… MARBURY and SPREWELL HAD BAD ATTITUDES..BUT i believe in FRANCIS DEFENSE he WAS CRUSHED AFTER BEING TRADED FROM HOUSTON.. and he was never able to re-adjust to another surrounding..

I used to LOVE Steve Francis. He was a great athlete and he was the whole package offensively (except he was kinda selfish). He was a ridiculous dunker back in the day, him and Cuttino Mobley were one of the great duo’s in the 2000’s man. Both could slash and shoot and it made the Rockets dangerous.

I liked Marbury’s style of play and everything, but he used to play for sorry teams and I didnt watch him alot growing up because he played in totally different regions than I lived in. But when I did see him play, he had alot of moves and was creative. I liked his game alot too for the most part.

Marbury flamed out because for all the attitude he had, he never made a difference in wins and losses. Nobody wants to deal with an arrogant “loser”. Francis just got hurt alot and it zapped his athleticism, and he was already undersized so he was a liability of D without his athleticism. He also wasnt explosive on offense and he needed that to be effective. Had a slight attitude problem too so that didnt help

It’s been said before and I’ll say it again, the T-Mac and Francis trade pretty much killed both players. They’ve never been the same since the trade.

And I never really was the biggest Marbury fan but he could ball back in the day no doubt. A superstar coming out of college. His career went downhill when KG got a bigger contract than him in Minesota.

Marbury wasn’t a ball hog yes he scored in bunches but he was great on every team he played for until his 2nd year in N.Y. Marbury cud have been one of the greats but his attitude. As for Francis idk man I loved his game but as a PG I didn’t really see him making his teammate any better at all. Marbury cud have been the man though honestly.

Back to Marbury and Steve Francis. I think Steve Francis got hurt and like a lot of veteran that could not deal with their game slipping and maybe coming off the bench, he did not. He could probably help a lot of team now that his knee is healed but his ego may not let him come off the bench. Same thing with Iverson but Iverson is a better player and gets more attetion. There is so much young talent that unless you are a Kobe or somebody that is key to a top team, you can be replaced. Any time it is felt that Iverson a perennial 20 point scorer whose worst output was last year at 17 points, that lets you know that people are more hyped about the future and if you are a star that can not make the transition than you have to be out. Marbury has struggle with this for awhile and if he held his pride in check, he could have played for a NBA team but he did not.

Marbury was a selfish player but not necessarily and ball hog. There is a difference. As long as he was consistantly involved and had plays run for him he would pass the ball but if not then hey sometime he would ballhog.

I think Marbury has some psychological issues. I think that along with the pressure in NY just shredded him psychologically and this past year just sealed the deal. I think he could probably still play if he got his head right, but realistically he doesn’t have much time left to get that straight before his career will be over if it’s not already after his webcasts. I can’t give him flack for not coming off the bench to play for D’Antoni. The guy worked hard, got in great shape, got to play in the pre-season and then they intentionally decided that they didn’t want him and only wanted him to play when they had no choice. I think he went to Boston wanting to fit in way too much, though I think he wanted to do everything to not be a distraction. He didn’t have the swagger or the confidence that we are used to seeing. Anyone that saw him playing noticed that.

I think injuries killed Francis’ career, along with the fact that he did not develop other parts of his game. I think he was a guy that fans loved because he was filling up highlights every night. He could score and was a good rebounder, but he generally shot low percentages and turned the ball over way too much. Some guys seem like they can keep going longer, no matter if age or injuries slow them down because they have other skills that make them effective. Not so much the case for Franchise.
