marcusfizer21ParticipantMemphis Grizzlies rookie center Hasheem Thabeet, the second pick in June’s NBA Draft out of UCONN, went to a different kind of school Friday and Saturday. Thabeet and his agents asked Hall of Fame center Hakeem Olajuwon for a personal workout and the two got together for a pair of sessions in the Houston area. Thabeet’s goal was to sharpen his skills and tap into the knowledge of one of greatest centers of all-time and who better to work with than Olajuwon.

Considering Hakeem started playing ball at 17 years old, Thabeet started playing ball at 15. They have a common starting point and Hakeem was actually a raw talent back in University of Houston where all he does is rebound and block shot until he worked his ass off and develop that sick offensive game of his… Now, with The Dream mentoring him, Thabeet has no excuse why he shouldn’t be able to improve in years. If he doesn’t improve, well, nbadraft users are right all along when labeling him a “bust” even if he hasn’t played any NBA minute yet… But let’s give Thabeet a chance… He has a lot of room to grow.

Henry25Participanti agree, i always love to see big men working out with The Dream. If Thabeet cant learn from Hakeem then i dont know who he can learn from

torontoraptors10ParticipantI agree with spencerishawesome2. Two days doesn’t equal mentoring. The Grizzlies could take the route the Lakers took when they hired Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to spend time with Andrew Bynum and hire Olajuwon to be Thabeet’s coach. It is upto the owner’s to hire him and if they want to spend the money.

L.ShapParticipanti find this to be a bit of a gimmick, A true example of a mentor would be Kareem to Bynum.

flibbenmcgParticipantPerhaps this was sort of like a trial run.Just to see the chemistry between them. It wouldnt make alot of sense to hire the Dream to tutor Thabeet if they dont like each other, or if Thabeet doesnt like Hakeem’s teaching methods.
