There are a few teams who dont have a clear starting 5. Actually, there are alot of them. Teams that have done a total revamp for thier lineups are the ones in question. What are some of the questionable lineups goint to look like opening day??

    Some teams:
    Nets
    Rockets
    Bobcats
    Knicks
    Timberwolves
    Pistons
    Grizzlies
    Bucks
    Kings
    Suns

Ya dont have to do a linup for these teams. Just do one for whoever you want. I would like to see what you think the starting 5 would be and also, the first 2 off the bench.

I think Nets go, Harris, Lee, Williams, Yi, and Lopez with Rafer and Najera first off bench. (I don’t remember whole roster)
Rockets – Brooks, Ariza, Battier, Scola, Andersen, with Lowry and Landry off bench. (All depends on McGrady)
Bobcats – Felton, Bell, Wallace, Diaw, Chandler with Augustin and Henderson? (Maybe a big instead)
Knicks – Duhon, Chandler, Galla..whatever, Harrington, and Lee. Robinson and Hill first off.
T-Wolves – no idea…gonna have flynn, love, and jefferson and brewer with sessions first off bench
Pistons – Stuckey, Hamilton, Prince, Charlie V, Big Ben? BG? Idk….confsued another logjam
Grizzles – Conley, mayo, gay, randolph, gasol and iverson and thabeet first off
Bucks – Jennings, Redd, Alexander, Amir?, and Bogut – Bell and ???
Kings – Evans, Martin, _____, Thompson, and Hawes. Greene off bench? idk as well. getting tougher
Suns – Nash, Richardson, Hill, Amare??? At center or pF?

I agree with you on it being Difficult Magiknick, but Mayo on the Bench!?!? Oh Em Gee…
Greene over Nocioni? haha, obviously yours it more organized though. Gomes as SF? didn’t think of that. Nice. Eh…I didn’t want Hughes to be starting so I left him off Knicks. Otherwise everything else looks Good. Rockets though…all depends on McGrady

    Yeah, the Grizzlies was hard…

who comes off the bench, Mayo, Iverson, or Conley?

Without Conley…that ball doesnt get passed too often, so he had to be in there
And I just cant see Iverson coming off the bench…..

I completely forgot about Nocioni, swap him out with Greene…and im a huge fan of Chandler, but hes not a legit SG, and Hugehes is the only legit SG on the roster

Oh my bad…My mistake. Yeah Chandler isn’t a SG, but I just couldn’t stand putting Larry Hughes. haha. Well, Iverson seems okay with coming off the bench now although I don’t think Conley should be a Starter…but he is the only real PG so I guess you are right, but I can’t see them benching Mayo
McDyess is with the Spurs now, just saying.

its already pretty set that iverson is comming off the bench and hes said he doesnt mind. alexander is not starting for the bucks. word out of phx is that lopez will start and they expect him to produce like varajoe . in det word is they are gonna try hamilton at the 3 or bring him off the bench with the big plan being to trade him. its also expected that ellington will start out in minnie which i dont see why he wouldnt since they are rebuilding and theres no one really to challenege him. i dont really count pavlovic

    Nets:
    C – Lopez
    PF – Yi
    SF – Williams
    SG – Lee
    PG – Harris
First 2 off the bench will be Alston and Najera

    Rockets:
C – Dorsey (I just don’t think that someone straight from Euro will start from day 1)
    PF – Scola
    SF – Ariza
    SG – Battier
    PG – Brooks
First 2 off the bench will be Landry and Lowry

    Bobcats:
    C – Tyson Chandler
    PF – Diaw
    SF – Wallace
    SG – Bell
    PG – Felton
First 2 off the bench will be Augustin and Henderson

    Knicks:
    C – Lee
PF – Harrington (By the end of the season, I expect Hill to be the starting PF)
    SF – Gallinari
    SG – Chandler
    PG – Duhon
First 2 off the bench will be Robinson and Hill

    Timberwolves:
    C – Jefferson
    PF – Love
SF – Gomes (He better suited in the starting lineup than Brewer because Gomes is a shooter)
    SG – Pavlovic
    PF – Flynn
First 2 off the bench will be Sessions and Brewer

    Pistons:
C – Wilcox (Better offensively and defensively than Kwame Brown)
    PF – Villinoeva
    SF – Prince
SG – Hamilton (When Hamilton starts, it means better winning percentages for the Pistons)
    PG – Stuckey
First 2 off the bench will be Gordon and Maxiell

    Grizzles:
C – Gasol (Better starter at Center opening night than Thabeet who struggles in summer league)
PF – Randolph (Really should be coming off the bench and bringing scoring off the bench)
    SF – Gay
    SG – Iverson
PG – Mayo (Both him and Iverson are shooting guards because Mayo will be the more efficient at point)
First 2 off the bench will be Thabeet and Mike Conley

    Bucks:
    C – Bogut
    PF – Warrick
SF – Alexander (Guy like this with this upside should be starting opening night instead of Mbah a Moute)
    SG – Redd
PF – Jennings (They see him as a potential star so start him and let him develop early)
First 2 off the bench will be Ridnour and Delfino

    Kings:
    C – Hawes
    PF – Thompson
    SF – Nocioni
    SG – Martin
PG – Evans (Sacramento owners even have said that Evans will start at point opening night)
First 2 off the bench will be Garcia and Udrih

Pavlovic! He’s going to be a solid fit for him, I remembr him from the Cavs Run. Um…I’m not down on Conley, but I doubt Mayo is benched and I’d think he is the one who gets the short end of the stick, but like you said if Iverson is fine coming off the bench then better for him playing with a second unit of the Grizzles he’ll have the ball in his hands more and able to score more building up his stock.

No way will Joe Alexander be starting over Mbah a Moute. Mbah a Moute started quite a few games last season and I don’t see how Alexander would all the sudden leap frog him. Mbah a Moute is a better player, especially defensively. Alexander has no position and struggled in summer league. I also seriously doubt that Coach Skiles will start Brandon Jennings, a rookie, on day one. I expect Jennings to start eventually, but it won’t be on day one.

yeah but iverson starting at the one?…not gonna happen with this young team and wit 2 stars who are gonna want the ball on top of zach needing the ball also. thats just asking for trouble which is way word out of mem has been iverson comming off the bench and doing what jason terry does with dallas. i think if that works as well as zach passing more its not far fetched for them to get the 8th seed

let me ask you guys this…

Does anyone think a Mayo/Iverson/Gay/Randolph/Whoever would work for a long period of time?

I imagine the Grizz would try it this season, but who lead in scoring? shot attempts? percentage of time with ball? assist?

How long it works depends on the amount of chemistry. All four of those players love to score, so each one of them will have to make sacrifices. Iverson and Randolph have always been “me first” players and it’s hard for me to imagine them willingly sacrificing anything.

However IF (a big IF) they sacrifice and develop team chemistry, I could see this team making the playoffs. I’ve been critical of Mayo playing the point in the past, but I think he’s realized that the NBA is about how much better you can make your teammates. I think he’d embrace the role and distribute the ball to Iverson, Gay and Randolph. He’s also a good defender, so he’d be able to guard shooting guards while Iverson guards the point guards.

    – Iverson would lead the team in shot attempts and points per game.
    – Mayo would be the primary ball handler, lead the team in assists and steals.
    – Randolph would be the second in both shot attempts and scoring, while leading the team in rebounds.

i have to question Williams starting at sf for the Nets. I know he is playing well and is a big part of their plans for the future, but he is a rookie who can play out of control at times. Also, the Nets are gonna be going inside to Lopez a lot and will need a spot up shooter on the perimeter, something Williams is not very good at right now. I think Lee will be that slashing sg while Hayes starts at sf to stretch defenses with his shooting. Williams will be a key piece off the bench to provide a spark of energy and defense.

I was going to put Hayes in at SF also, bu recently theres been plenty of reports on how overly impressed the Nets coaches are with T-Will, so they like him alot..

I think Hayes will get the job for the 1st 2-3 months of the season, and then T-Will will take over for the rest of the season

Yea… I’ve heard/read the same thing. I actually put Hayes at small forward first, but changed it because I remembered what I read about T. Will. The players and coaches have been extremely impressed with him. Coach Frank said Williams could play positions 1-3 and they’d use him as a point forward. Here’s something I read off of ESPN:

Player News (last updated: September 18, 2009)

News: Williams has been receiving a lot of praise from his teammates this summer, the New Jersey Star-Ledger reports.

Spin: Williams should start for the Nets this year, and while his coach has been eager to squelch any talk of him being a superstar already, his teammates have been throwing admonishments his way all summer. Beyond diffusing praise of Williams being a savior, head coach Lawrence Frank did offer a nugget of insight into Williams’ role on the team this year: “Well, he has good handling skills, and as we said, I think he’s a point forward,” Frank said. “Mostly, he’s just a basketball player. We’ll use him at different spots. He’ll have to go through the normal learning progression, but if he’s committed to paying the price and working at it, we have a very good player.”

Terrence Williams will start. The Nets lineup will be

PG: Devin Harris SG: Courtney Lee SF: Terrence Williams PF: Yi Jianlian C: Brook Lopez

The Nets may need perimeter shooting, but they need perimeter defenders just as much and probably even more. Lee isn’t that great a defender, and he definitely isn’t going to make a star 2-guard or PG lose sleep (ask Kobe and Lebron) about him being matched up with them. Williams will be a lockdown defender from Day 1. And his playmaking/passing will be welcomed because Harris isnt the spectacular passer who makes everyone better. He will be a truly great player in a few years with his talent and versatility and the Nets realize that.

yeah i think he will start but he wont be a lockdown defender from day one..i cant think of one rookie who was a lock down defender from day one. im pretty sure hes gonna take his lumps like all rookies do..eventually he will be a lock downdefender though…he acually had trouble locking down the guys he was checking in summer leauge

Not necessarily….all-defense doesnt mean your a lockdown defender at all. Kobe would be one of the best defenders of all-time if that was the case. I think Rondo and Iguodala deserved all-defense mention when they were rookies, they were phenomenal defenders off the bat.

how about instead of one of the two sophomores starting (Mbah A Moute or Alexander), they start carlos delfino at the small forward position.. he is a veteran player in the nba and euor. I have always liked his style when i watched him play for my team(raptors) when he was last in the nba. He is very skilled and can play point guard, shooting guard, or small forward. I’d rather have him start than either of the two sophomores

    PG – Baron Davis
    SG – Eric Gordon
    SF- Al Thornton
    PF – Blake Griffin
    C – Chris Kaman
6th – Marcus Camby: Can play/backup power forward as well as center, which is important because that’ll allow DeAndre Jordan (who only plays center) to get some minutes at center… Jordan and Camby can play on the floor together. However if Camby were to start at center and Kaman (who also only plays center) were to back him up, then that’d mean Jordan wouldn’t be in the rotation. Jordan and Kaman can’t play on the floor together because they don’t compliment each other well defensively.
7th – Rasul Butler: The Clippers needed another shooting specialist who could also put the ball on the floor (unlike Novak) who brings spacing, so he’ll serve that need off the bench. He’ll back up both Gordon and Thornton.
    8th – Sebastian Telfair
    9th – DeAndre Jordan
    10th – Steve Novak

Odd men out: Ricky Davis, Mardy Collins, Brian Skinner and Craig Smith.
