llperezHow did you guys first get into basketball? Did you slowly ease into being a fan, or did you jump right in? Did you play it when you first got into it? What are some of your favorite memories from when you first started watching?

RickyRubio9Participantdue to my uncle and his very close friend, he was watching a Philly game and was telling me how good Iverson was and stuff. His fave player, then took me outside and was showing me how to play. I then always wanted to practice with him and watch it and became a big fan right away after seeing Iverson play. That’s how i started, then I went to my first basketball game where Philly was @ Rockets and we lost while Iverson was a beast. That is one of my favorite memories.

Meditated StatesParticipantMichael Jordan was someone who got me to go down to the court and shoot all day, and try things he did.

llperezin 1992 when I was 10, my step dad got me into the lakers and I jumped into it full steam. The original dream team was the first games I watched and I would play in my backyard and at school every day. I watched video tape from the ’80s and read books about the game’s best players and collected cards. It was my immediate passion. I played it all 4 years of highschool. Watchin the Lakers push the suns to the brink in the first round of the ’93 playoffs despite being huge underdogs was my first real cool memory.

Michael.S.ParticipantI was looking to get into some sort of sport (probably around 9 yrs old), and i fell in love with basketball even though i sucked like anyone would at first, i loved the concept.
Best memory? ummm, at first, when i was sooo hyped to see Iverson play, the game was supposed to start at 7, and you know how the games begin late? because of the intro’s, commentating and stuff? anyways it was 7:16 and i was ready to explode, and it was a stupid, but memorable moment

JoeWolf1I was pretty tall for my grade and was always fast and a good jumper. I started playing around 10, about the same time I watched the 93 Finals with my mom and started watching KU games when they were on TV that got me into it even more. By the time I was in 7th grade I was still pretty raw as a player but hooked as a fan I also played baseball and when the MLB went on strike I concentrated all my efforts on basketball, collected cards, had basketball encyclopedias, and started working hard to be a better player. Played all 4 years in high school, and still play as much as I can at 27.

tli232I started playing after I hit puberty and grew 9-10 inches and 60-70 pounds in one year. Immediately played C as I was 5’8″ 200 pounds in shoes with a 29 inch vertical in grade 6-7. Tried so Hard to get that extra 2 – 3 inches so i could dunk it. However, ended up being 5’7 1/2″ in socks, 5’9″ in shoes with a 5’11 1/2″ wingspan for the rest of my life. I feel like one of those Nigerian stories of a kid picking up a basketball late and coming out of nowhere. By age of 13-14 played back up PF/C for the city of Scarborough. Never played b-ball ever again (Provincially) after that year as everyone outgrew me (the starting SG was 6’3″ by age of 14)

joecheck88Participanti have played basketball since i was about 8 but was never really into it as a fan until about age 13 when the 76ers went to the finals. and as a sports fan from philly you were craving for the upset because we had not won anything for a long time. the sixers lost so i changed teams to the young exciting la clippers with d miles, q richardson, and lamar odom and i was a mild fan at that point. then when the 2002-2003 season came around, and i was watching the clippers on espn, i saw for the first time a 6’10” 245lbs rookie pf. it was a regular game when the rookie set a pick for the pg and rolled to the basket. the pg game him a nice bounce pass and when received, this massive man jumped higher than anyone I had seen up to that point, finishing with a powerful and1 dunk on the recent number 1 pick of Micael Olowakandi(Still my favorite all time dunk). Since then I have been a die hard nba fan and fan of this player and team. Can anyone guess the player and team?

tonyl33ParticipantI feel old as hell reading all these post. I started to try and play ball at the age of 5. Live across the street from a park and my brothers and his friends would go out and play ball everyday. Then started playing after school ball at the age of 8. Grew up watching basketball at the perfect time. JORDAN was the reason why we would go outside and shovel 3 feet of snow during the winter just to play ball. After middle school I stop playing when people told me asian’s wouldn’t make it into the NBA. Then I join the soccer team in highschool. Ballislife til this day. One love.
