Russell Westbrook Vs. Eric Gordon

Im tired of reading about Gordon, we talk about this every damn week.

I personally think that Westbrook will have the better career to to the fact that i think OKC is bulding a championship team if they can keep their core together. However i think that Gordon will put up some big scoring games and definetley average more points than Westbrook, but Russel will get more victories and probably more all star games

I like Eric Gordan with this one. He seem so much more polished offensively and defensively. Also the Clippers are a good coach away from having the best team in LA.

i think both will be good players but seeing as westbrook can play the one and the 2 and can score as well as create for others and hes the better defender i have to put him above gordan

I really like Gordon and Westbrook and think they are up and coming All-Stars but neither of them is going to be the best player on their team because of Griffin and Durant. In saying that though Gordon will average more points and Westbrook will have more assists and boards. Both are really good defenders and who ever is more successful will be how many times their team makes the play-offs and how successful they are in the play-offs.

If you going to compare these guys compare Westbrook and Rose then Gordon and Mayo.

Its a super tough choice, but I go Gordon. He brings more offensive ability and I think he has the potential to be a great defender.

He isnt comparing them. So stop mentioning Rose and Mayo. He just wants to know which of these 2 will have the better career

If I had to choose, I’d say Gordon. He’s a more complete offensive player and he doesn’t always have to rely on his athleticism. He’s huge, strong and has great body control. I see Gordon having a very long career and scoring a lot of points.

which is what makes me pick westbrook..he scores mostly off athletisim which means hes gonna get better and learn to score off of skill as well as being able to score off athletisim. on top of that he did all this while playing point guard for the first time (consistantly) in his life. rose has played it all his life yet westbrook put up similar numbers and is a better defender. i really think people are underrating him. gordan will also be good but hes a shot first player who doesnt create for anyone at this point. he’ll probably have a mitch richmond type of career

Like Gordon. High percentage shooter from outside who also finishes in traffic well. I was very impressed with him defensively last year too. Even forced Kobe into a bad game with very little help D. I go with Gordon.

u need to watch more of him…he’s actually unselfish to a fault. He was asked to be purely a shooting guard last year even when Baron Davis was out…EJ is an under rated play maker,that dosent show up in the stats.He’s great at moving the ball and works tirelessly to set screens for team mates…though ill give u he isnt a level of a playmaker that Westbrook is

In ranking true shooting percentage among all rookies last year Westbrook was 13th,while Gordon was first!Among ALL players averaging more than 15points last year EJ was 12th…Of all the people on that list only EJ and Keving Martin have never made an all star team(Martin was 8th among TSP)….and this was coming when the Clippers were hit hard by injuries and EJ become the number one option and defenses were focusing on him…

Westbrook at this point is a poor offensive player that need to take alot of shots to scrore(though he does get to line alot).
He shot almost below 40% percent from the field last year,under 30% from beyond the arc and is a turn over machine!

Is it because he’s humble n quiet? or because he plays for The CLippers???lol He has a unique blend of strength,athleticism,and shooting ability that few guards possess

I’ll take westbrook. He improves rapidly from year to year. He is an elite defender and pentrator. People who just want to bring up shooting percentages are approaching this from a stand point that will clearly make Gordon look better. Westbrook’s effect on the game goes beyond just offensive numbers.

Gordon is going to be one of the top scorers and go to players in the league and he is a decent defender. I like Westbrook but I see a lil Kobe in Gordon’s game and Westbrook for all his raw talent may not be able to match that.

You’re 110% correct about Gordon, especially about him being an underrated playmaker and being unselfish to a fault. People like Quincey Hodges (“Gordon is a shoot first player”) kill me trying to give their take on a player they really know nothing about…

Gordon is unselfish, plays under control (unlike Westbrook), within the offense and always moves the ball. It’s the reason I like his game more than Mayo’s and Westbrook’s. I watched most of his games last season and I can’t think of a time when he didn’t make the right pass or let the game come to him. He also doesn’t always have to go off the dribble to have an impact on offense… He moves without the ball and catches and shoots extremely well. He’s light years ahead of Westbrook on offense and I don’t ever see him catching up. He DOES have a unique combination of strength, athleticism and shooting ability and he’ll take even more advantage of that this year. Watch.

Scout4real also made a great point about Gordon’s defense. Westbrook and Mayo are always getting the nod over Gordon as better defenders, but I don’t think so. Not only do I think Gordon is the better defender, I think he’s the most versatile defender. Gordon with his combination of upper/lower body strength, athleticism and length can guard positions 1-3. Last season I watched him guard everyone from CP3, Kidd and Billups to Kobe, Wade, Roy, Melo and LeBron.

you have youre opinion i have mine( and yes i watch gordan and still think hes a shoot first player and im not the only one)..liek i sai di think westbrook is better now and will be better in the future and i will take him..peopel liek you kill me who think theyu are always right and if someone says somthign about a player that goes against what you think then they must not have watched the player. laughable

I will admit that I have seen a whole heck of lot more of Westbrook then I have of Gordon. As a die hard Bruin fan, I watched pretty much every Westbrook game in college and have followed him in the nba on league pass. He has a chance to be the best defensive gaurd in the nba. He was the pac 10 defensive player of the year and some analyists called him the best defensive player in the country his sophommore year. He locked guys like OJ Mayo up in college. In the nba, he was given so many minutes right away because of his defense. He shuts guys down, gets into passing lanes, and is already one of the most disruptive defenders in the league.

Now I’m not gonna say Gordon is in any way a worse defender because I haven’t paid enough attention to him. But if he, as tezo and some others are saying, is a better defender then Westbrook, then that is truly impressive. He should be contending for all first team defense very soon.

ive actualyl watched more of gordan then west brook and love gordans game i just like westbrooks more yet because i do some peopel think i havent seen gordan play. ive watched his games since i first saw him in vegas at the end of his jr year while playing for meanstreet as well as other aau tournaments before he headed to indiana so go head with that bs

i think it’s funny to compare two players who play completely different styles, and who bring completely different skill sets to the table…

Eric Gordon gets it done on offense with a more methodical approach, while RW is helter-skelter and all over the place, but he always finds a way to be 2 steps past his defender by the time it’s all said and done. Also, Gordon has a way better outside shot than Russell, but I think RW is going to get to the line more than Gordon as a result of that…

and as for defense, Gordon plays a more physical, balanced game, while RW again settles for an all-over-the-court, I have so much energy on defense- I will run after ANYONE all day and love every minute of it.

People are comparing apples with oranges and getting all upset about their differences!

Im not going to get into a big comparison game either because it truly is apples and oranges. I said I’d rather have Gordon, but I cant say who exactly does stuff better because they play opposite positions (PG and off-guard). This something that can be compared though (to an extent) but I dont think Gordon was a better defender than Westbrook last year and he definitely wasnt in college. Gordon will be able to defend more positions, because he has a big winspan and he’s full of strength and athleticism but Westbrook is the only PG in the NBA can rival Rajon Rondo’s chance to become the best defender at the PG spot in the NBA. Gordon will be a great defender (he’s alot better than I thought he’d be), but I feel that Russ is better in this area.

You’re entitled to your own opinion about liking Westbrook more, but you we’re wrong when you said GordOn was a “shoot first” player. I followed GordOn on league pass last season like llperez22 followed Westbrook. That’s why I said you must not have watched him play last season. If GordOn is a “shoot first” player then what is Westbrook considering he averaged almost two more FGA’s per game and took over a HUNDRED more FGA’s than GordOn last season??? Don’t even let me get started on the fact that Westbrook shot less than 40% FG and 30% 3P while doing it. He also coughed the ball up more than three times per game. Yea… Give me GordOn regardless of style.

And llperez22… Gordon shut Mayo down in a game last season (2/6/2009) and was responsible for guarding the other team’s best offensive player all season.
