td8118ParticipantI don’t think there have been two players at the top of the board that are as similar as these two….IMO Westbrook and Rondo are very similar but Wall and Roses games are very much alike
Obviously after a year of college it will be easier to evaluate the two….
I think Wall has a better jumper at the moment and is probably a little better of an all around scorer…However, i think I would take Rose as the all around player due to his defense and court vision
What are your guys thoughts, I know I’m not saying anything groundbreaking here

Toronto16ParticipantIt will be close, but Wall has a bit more size and is a better athlete than Rose, but Rose is quicker. Wall is also at the moment seems to better a better play maker as well. Wall has a better jump shot right now. Can’t wait to see both these guys in the NBA.

ummm…LooneyParticipantDifferences
Wall is a LITTLE bit quicker, Derrick Rose i much stronger, Rose plays with more intensity, but we seen alot of leadership and fire with Rose in the Playoff’s,Wall is 6-1 Rose is 6-4.

GoJOSH HUESTISParticipantive scouted both during there jr and sr years(hoopscooponline)..rose has a better jumper is stronger and has a better midrange game..wall is a better defender when he wants to be and is longer. rose was also a much much better player as a sr then wall was as a tru senior. another year of hs close the gap a lil in some eyes but they gap would have stayed just as wide if rose stayed a extra year.

I disagree, itseems like you have everything backwards, Wall has more size? How?, Wall a better jumper? Nah, He might be a better playmaker , yes but Rose isn’t half bad himself, as for athleticism Rose nips Wall by a little bit.

MagikKnickParticipantYeah, I agree with umLooney..you guys got it a bit backwards
Rose clearly has better size, in height and in “mass”
Rose is also the better shooter, but neither are lights outI say we give Wall a season under Calipari before we start comparing anything else

td8118Participantyeah thats why i said we wont really be able to tell untill after one year of college….however thats a good point that wall is a 5th year senior…his age is where development is the greatest

IndianaBasketballParticipanttd8118… I agree with everything you said in your original post, except Rose being a defender. That’s the weakest part of his game right now. Wall is a much better defender. I think Wall has the potential to wreak havoc similar to Rondo on the defensive end. He’s long just like Rondo.
ummm…Looney… Rose isn’t 6′ 4″. He was supposed to be 6′ 4″, but barely measured 6′ 3″ (I think he was like 6′ 2.75″) at the Draft Combine. They’re closer than you think in height. Rose is bigger mass/muscle wise and stronger though.
In my opinion, they are similar, but Rose has a more natural feel for the game. Wall will be good, but he won’t top Rose.

MkadozaParticipantbecause of his explosiveness and length (Scary long arms). Rose pinned plenty of shots against the back board ala Wall in high school. As for overall height, I’ll wait for official measurements before I make my judgment, because Rose was called 6’4″ but measured only 6’2.5″ in shoes. Like Rose, I think Walls wingspan will make it a moot point (Rose has a 6’8 wingspan), but physically, Wall seems taller and slightly faster, and Rose seems stronger. Rose definitely has the more refined shooting game and is stronger, with a better court sense and has the natural ability to make his teammates better, and Wall has yet to show that poise thats gonna make Rose a superstar at the NBA level. Defense is the last thing to evaluate because your competition level rises faster than your own skills, so we’ll see who ends up the better defender.

quincey hodgeslol..wall is a much better defender???..and this is based off of what exactly?..games against other hs point guards who wont be d1 players?..i know you not counting aau because although he dominated on offense he also let his man score buckets so im just wondering how u figure his defense is better then rose? is it because rose struggled on d against the best point guards in the world?

IndianaBasketballParticipantAs far as defense goes, I wasn’t necesarily looking at the competition. More the willingness of each player to play D. Even when motivated, Rose still doesn’t seem interested in playing defense majority of the time. I felt this way about him in high school and at Memphis. I’m not saying Wall is a shut down defender, but when motivated he’s a willing defender. Being a willing defender has nothing to do with your competition.
