BasketballGuru24Participantgerald henderson and derozan are both athletic and have good mid-range jumpers……both were lottery picks and are pretty good defenders…..they seem pretty identical too me, but Henderson can shoot the 3 better
Who do you think is better ? And Why?

blazer_fan_foreverParticipantI think Henderson might contribute more his first year, but Derozan has more long term potential.
Derozan has really good size for the SG position and is 2 years younger…Other than that, I would agree…they are virtually identical.

Bryant24ParticipantI got to go with derozan his potential is sky high and he’s going to get more minutes because larry brown hate to play rookies and henderson is undersized at the 2 if everything go right for derozan he can be a special talent. Dont get me wrong henderson nice too.

Im Your FatherParticipantThe thing with Henderson is I still feel like he has a lot of potential. He made huge strides every year he was at duke. He may be older than Derozan, who I think has enormous potential as well, Henderson has only been taking basketball seriously since highschool, golf was his first sport, he is still on a steep learning curve.

Anton123ParticipantI’ll go with DeRozan he will have more oppurtunities to prove himself and develop, cause if Iverson signes Henderson will be the third option at SG (behind Iverson and Bell), and DeRozan has Bellineli and Wright in front, so he might even start a few times.

JNixonParticipantRight now its Henderson. He isnt the most polished but he is more polished than Derozan and he is a smarter player. But Derozan is someone whos grown on me since the conference tournys. He has a good mid range game (which he has obviously worked hard on) and as he puts his game together he will be a pretty good player. I think he’ll be better than Henderson in the long run.

quincey hodgeswait Bryant24..how is henderson a undersized 2g at 6’5 with a 6’10 wingspan and as athletic as he is?

Bryant24ParticipantO i thiught he was shorter than that he is good but playing time is going to be hard with larry brown and how hard he is on rookies

quincey hodgesi did too till the draft measurments came out. i do think he will get more time then the average rookie usually gets for larry brown since hes not real weak in any area..he plays hard and plays defense..can ya’ll honestly say he isnt a larry brown type guy?

JNixonParticipantHe isnt the best ball handler and he isnt known for his D. The Gerald Henderson I remember was the guy who couldnt slow down Jeff Teague, Jack McClinton, or Manny Harris. He has his weaknesses but he still is better prepared than Derozan.

quincey hodgesand who exactly could slow down the first 2 players you named?..overall henderson played better d for a season. you cant say someones disnt good by 2 games..as a matter of fact i recall jeff being checked by shayer and the other kid that transfered…and im a main duke hater so it takes alot for me to say these good things about henderson

QHaynes20My pick is Henderson. He has a great mid range game and has good Defense. He needs to develop a consitant 3 ball but right now, hes the player to me when to play and learn under the right coach. I feel LB will make this kid better in the long haul.
Derozan can be good but he is very raw and right now, he is better slashing to the basket. If he can get a little jumpshot, then he can be good but if he does not, he will be another Gerald Green or Harold Miner

quincey hodgesyou saying henderson should or shouldnt be able to guard McClinton?…if you meant should then that has been a debate for years..vince carter should be one of the best defenders around. jj.reddick shouldnt have scored as much as he did as well as hansboro, or chrs mullin. being athletic doesnt mean its for sure you gonna be a great defender. im feeling sick from defending a duke player so imma stop right now

Im Your FatherParticipantI don’t think it will necessarily translate to the NBA, but Henderson blocked quite a few shots at duke. Much like lebron(I’m not saying he is anything like lebron) he is able to use his leaping ability and timing to block shots in transition.

llperezI’ll take Derozan. I think his jumper is more fluid and should allow for him to improve on it more then Henderson will. Also he can shoot better over defenders with a hand in his face then Gerald can.

JNixonParticipantScheyer guarded Ish Smith when I watched, Henderson guarded Johnson and Teague. And alot of people guarded Teague well at the end of the yr. Remember the slump him and Wake went through?
And Gerald Henderson shouldve been able to guard McClinton, he much quicker and more athletic. Not to mention the size advantage.
