Bryant24ParticipantWho will have the better rookie year Demar Derozan or James Harden?
Demar Derozan is a high flyer who is a underrated defender he can drive to the hoop but he is lacking a consistent jumper.
Rookie Stats:My opinion
10.1ppg
4.5rpg
1.5apgJames Harden isnt flashy he isnt fast and he isnt slow he basically getting the starting positon handed to him in oklahoma city. Harden is a good slasher and dont give him the jumper cause he is good at that to he is a solid defender and a underrated athlete.
Rookie Stats:My opinion
12.1ppg
3.2rpg
4.2apg0 - Posted on: Tue, 08/18/2009 - 11:19am #202326
McWinningParticipantHarden has less potential but i think he will the better player right away, in the long run maybe Derozan but Harden will be a solid pro for sure.

ckowalskiParticipantFinally someone who does not think that every lottery pick will average a double double their rookie year and then proceed to call this draft the worst in 10 years lol. I think Derozan will have the better rookie season because he won’t be asked to do as much as Harden will. Harden will produce more but I think there will be a significant amount of pressure on him to step in and be a major contributor right away, while Derozan has more talented players around him and doesn’t have to stand out as much. I would be worried that Harden will hit the rookie wall earlier than most.

DeAndreParticipantharden will have a better rookie year
but in 3-4 yrs derozan will be better0 - Posted on: Tue, 08/18/2009 - 11:36am #202332

JNixonParticipantJames Harden will be better in my opinion, even at the end of his career. He’s the better shooter, passer, ball-handler, and everything right now. He also is the better defender, but I think Derozan has the potential to be a lockdown defender

BasketballGuru24ParticipantJames harden is the most NBA ready player that came out in this years draft. Derozan has the most potential out of any one in this years draft. If Derozan Lives Up to his potential. He will be better then harden.
As for who will have the better year, that will probably go to harden. He is just too much for derozans potential, But i got my money on Derozan in the future.

walkoff2ParticipantHarden will have the better year, but Demar will have more highlights.

OrangeJuiceJonesParticipantDerozan’s mid-range game looked pretty good towards the end of his college career. Harden is the better player right now, but Derozan has more potential. Derozan might actually live up to his potential because he’s not a head case (as far as we know), and he’s willing to play defense.

marcusfizer21ParticipantJames Harden, I agree, is the most NBA Ready player among this year’s draft, step aside Blake… He has the unselfishness and the ability to attack the basket with confidence… He is more of a smaller version of Paul Pierce, if I may say… He can hit those shots and is not afraid to take it when the game is on the line… At OKC, he will be teaming up with a couple of very talented guys and it is very much going to be a fruitful experience in his young career.
Demar Derozan is a highlight reel waiting to happen. He has got so much potential and his vertical leap and athletic ability is out of this world…but still he is a few years away from fully reaching his potential… I am happy though that he is with the Raptors since they needed a guy that can bring excitement to an international team^^… Expect him to be in Top 10 plays this upcoming season…
Conclusion: James Harden will be the better rookie but Demar Derozan will have a lot of room to be better than James. If he works hard and challenges himself to the limit, he will definitely be better in 2 to 3 years… This is a match-up that needs another look in the next few seasons…

Chicago1980ParticipantI like both players but right now I think that Harden is more ready to contribute right now than Derozan. While watching them both in college Harden was a lot more consistent and his Jumpshot is a lot better than Derozan I think that derozan is gonna hit that rookie wall hard while harden stays consistent throughout the season.

JoeWolf1Harden kind of reminds me of Hersey Hawkins, pure shooting guard, good shooter and NBA ready from the get go, I don’t think he will be a perennial all-star, but more of a 1-3 timer with good career averages and a 15,000 points kind of guy
DeRozden reminds me a lot of Vince Carter, only not as heralded out of college, didn’t play for as high profile of a program, or with as good of players, but yeah, if he adds a jumper to his game he could be a 27ppg a night guy and big name all-star type, but thats a big if. Worst case scenario Desmond Mason decent career as a slasher with 13-15 ppg

JNixonParticipantDerozan needs instincts, range on his shot and ball handling to be a 20 ppg scorer, but he has the potential. His mid range game is pretty decent so I wont say he cant shoot at all, but he has no range right now. If he has a decent spot up mid range game after not being a good shooter at all from anywhere, I think he’ll extend his range some more.

R-Dot-13ParticipantHarden is ready to contribute right away, he will start at the 2 for the Thunder, and he will be a part of a great team in the future. He as of right now, he does most things better than Derozan, and has it all together.
Derozan has great potential, and maybe 3 years down the road he will be better than Harden, he just has to put it all together and improve his range.
